I started to get a little confused. Some uses of the One Power are considered Talents. Healing, for instance. Other things are simply weaves that anyone can use. Air to lift a potted plant, for example. When does a weave gain a name and start to be considered a Talent? Does it have to do with strength in the Power and ability in that particular weave? I understand that at some point, a channeler combined Spirit, Water and Air and Healed someone. Perhaps they used all Five Powers. But then other channelers realized that they didn't really understand the working of that weave and how to manipulate it so some channelers became more skilled at Healing u…

Ok i was reading the series again and i found a little piece of info very mysterious. When Egwene and Nynaeve are talking about the men they love Moiraine says that "She probably knows the face of the man that she will marry better then each of you know the face of the man you love". Now later when Mat finds out that he has to bring a another man with him into the Tower on the Shadow coast. I'm thinking that extra man might be the men Moiraine is talking about....any thoughts on this? :)

Does any one other than me have questions that cannot be answered by the books written so far and doubt we'll ever get the answers to? Like... What in Randland are the people East of the Aiel Waste doing? We hear about "fantastical" creatures and good that come out of their lands, but why aren't they being affected by this shadow... Or What in Randland happened to turn the peaceful people into the Aiel? We know there was some great sin...but I've never heard of so many people going from completely peaceful to complete and total warrior society. Maybe that happened during the breaking though. If a lot of them were split up the ones that were in the three-fold l…

I dont know if this thread was ever done but here goes. Ny's behavior seems to change after she got married. whenever Lan is around she starts acting weird. she cant be obnoxious or loose her temper. It could be the sea folk marrige but i liker to think OPTION #1 is right. Lan the abusive husband. you just cant unlearn certain things. ;D

So I was reading the BWB about the Forsaken and what each of them did before they became Forsaken. I dont have the books with me now to list each of them in turn, but I remember that Graendal was a psychologist, Semirhage was a doctor, Mesaana a failed teacher - a researcher, Lanfear a scientist and one of Aginor / Balthamel was a biologist, Ishamael was a philanthropist / philosopher and so on. But, apart from... Aginor? Creating the Trollocs and the Myrdraal, and obviously Semirhage's skills at extracting information, I dont think we see very much of their past professions in them. Is it kind of, you become Forsaken and go sit in the shiny glass office with a…

Whilst camping by Illian in tPoD, Rand sends Narishma to fetch something for him. Knowing of the impending 'cleanse', I had initially thought that it was the two figurines (I forget their names, sorry) that Rand had hidden in the wall in his apartments that Narishma had been sent for. It turned out to be Callandor. I was stunned, as perhaps I had missed something, but it seemed a totally random thing for Rand to send for after all this time. Also, I like Narishma, I havent got further than book 9 but I like him. I trust him and he was not (I dont believe) involved when Dashiva et al tried to kill Rand, mentally retarding Morr. But sending him for Callandor!? Ra…

Okay, well, I'm completely new, I joined about five seconds ago, so hi! Yeah, new member, but I didn't want to bother with adjusting my profile or anything like that yet, because this has been bothering me for a while, and I just have to get your thoughts. Well, I mean, I suppose the answer is obvious since no one has mentioned it before, but... When Verin reveals, in the Great Hunt, that she knows about Siuan and Moraine having found the Dragon Reborn, Moraine thinks something along the lines of how she likes Verin, but she will not let her ruin all her plans. And both Siuan and Moraine have embraced the Source, and Verin is rambling on and then... blank. Switch PoV…

OK I didnt want to hijack any particular thread with this, but it's been bubbling to the surface just recently and thought we could do with a thread just for the purpose. We all have our senses of humour, and there are certainly many things I would find incredibly funny should they happen (although they're unlikely to) in the books. For example, I'd find it hilarious if after all this hoo-ha, the DO stepped out of his prison and onto the battlefield to find the only mortal soul he could take (I'm making it up that he takes a body) was that of a nerdy little guy called Neville. Anyone in the UK, I'm using the guy from the Mr Muscle adverts as my mental image. …

I just caught myself doing this and I now realize I have been doing this for a while and got it from reading the books. Someone asked me a question and I knew they were not going to like the answer I gave. I did not want to be considered "in the wrong", so I answered just like an Aes Sedai would. I completely avoided a direct answer to the question and sent them off in another direction without telling a lie at all! After I did it, I felt a little ashamed, but convinced myself it was okay, because I did not lie - and if what I said caused them to think differently, it was not my fault. Since reading the books over and over, in Real Life, I seem consider my …

Myself, I believe the DO is a female, and I will explain why, but first I'd like to see what others have to say on the topic.

taim is a darkfriend (dreadlord) if not one of the forsaken, and rand knows this, so why hasen't rand brought the power of the rest of the world down on this traitor yet after the 11th book?

So, I'm reading book 10 at the beginning, and so far we have seen Cyndane and Moghedian together... twice. Once when we meet Cyndane, when they visit Graendal and she is pulled into service by Shaidar Haran, and once when Moridin brings them to the Forsaken meeting, when Rand is in Far Madding and they dont know where he's gone. We've seen them seperately a couple of times since then. There are so many questions I have about their situation, not least of all how does it end? Will they simply stay under Moridin's control? What will happen if he swaps bodies with Rand (presumably Moridin dies in the process)? Will Rand then have control of Moghedian and Cyndane? W…

Hey guys! I've begun walking and running quite a bit, and though that Audio Books might be a good way to make it a bit more fun. However, i've had bad experiences with audio books before, so before I go out and buy WoT as audio books, I thought I would ask you guys about it. Do anyone have them or have listened to them, and could tell me if they are any good? As english aint my first language, I need the voices to be very clear, as it's easy to miss things otherwise. I've tried looking for a sample, but couldn't find any. I've also been to the library, but they only have the swedish audio books, and this series is just way way better in English. Thanks…

Okay I have a theory about Mat and Brigitte; however, I don't want to be brining up old topics for all y'all or posting things where I shouldn't, but I just cannot find this when I do a search and I'm not sure where else I should be posting theories and theory type questions. So before I get too deep into my theory could some one tell me if this is an okay place to post it or if I should be going some where else. I was almost thinking about doing it on the post cast board. I'm loving the pod casts. I've been listening to them at work for the past two days. I'm about half way threw them now and have yet to hear them mention this.

IT JUST CAME TO ME AFTER ALL THIS DISCUSSION ABOUT TAIM . DURING THE ATTACK AT EMOND'S FIELD SOME TROLLOCS WERE SHOUTING "ISAM" . AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS ISHAMAEL IN THEIR LANGUAGE , BUT WHAT IF IT'S THE NAME OF THEIR DREADLORD COMMANDER ? AH , I FORGOT , NO DREADLORDS ANYMORE .... SO , WE ARE LOOKING FOR A MAN WHO CAN CHANNEL (PLENTY OF THAT) , BORDERLANDER (TAIM IS FROM THE NORTH ) , DARKFRIEND , FROM ROYAL LINE (I WONDER IF THAT EXPLAINS WHY TAIM LOOKS DOWN TO EVERYONE AND FEELS EQUAL TO ELAYNE). RJ WRITES "NO ONE KNOWS THEIR FATE A CERTAIINTY "AT BOOK ONE , SO ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE ....WOULD THE TROLLOCS KILL A BOY WHO CAN CHANNEL AND HIS FAMILY ARE DARKFRI…

Apologies if this has been done before. Just found something during my re-read. I've just started New Spring. The below happens when everyone's favourite Blue is walking through the Green Ajah's quarters. She's delivering a note on behalf of the Amy. Seat. She walks around a corner and sees two men (we can assume they're warders as they're mentioned in a para which is talking about Greens and their boys) practicing with staves. They're watched over a Green Aes Sedai (we can assume she's their AS.) New Spring, Chp. 7, The Itch, pg. 115: Rina Hafden, who somehow made a square face lovely and a stocky build both elegant and graceful, was urging them on wi…

We spend a lot of time, for very obvious reasons, discussing Rand, Mat, Perrin, the Forsaken, the Seanchan and the associated other 'main' characters. With only one book to go, and me only on book 10 it is possible that some of these have taken a turn to the dark or been rewarded themselves but for lack of discussion on them in these forums, I just wanted to take my hat off, and pay homage to the dead and living characters that make our heroes able to do what they do; Talmanes Dobraine Narishma Flinn Rhuarc Berelain (although she is duscussed to an extent) Uno Nalesean Bael Wil al'Seen (doesnt Perrin pretty much have him as his 'general'?) T…

We know that Moraine never entered the stone door from the waste till she fought Lanfear. And many assume that Lanfear had in the AoL, If thats the case is that why she needed a new body and Moraine is still alive? Did the Finns kill her for violating the rules and comming twice? If that is the case whats going to happen to Mat? It would be suicide for him to go back. We know he isn't going to be killed obviously and something is going to happen with his eye, but why would they kill Lanfear and not him for the same thing? Ta`veren work or something else? Any Thoughts? [glow=green,1,500]Darth_Andrea[/glow]

I theorized a little while back about the possibility of Rand and the DO being linked through Rand's link with Moridin. My thinking is that, in order to "break the Wheel" and change Randland's chonology from cyclical time to linear time, Rand would have to be balefired. This would burn him out of the Pattern, and Tarmon Gai'don really WOULD be the Last Battle. Of course, a number of people balked at this idea hehe So I went back to the drawing board. And tonight, while I was on my VERY FIRST READ of KoD (finally!!! ;)), I came across this little jewel...

Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but in a search I performed before starting this topic I was unable to find a previous posting. Why will the WOT series stop at 12? The death of Robert Jordan aside, there are more references to the number 13 in the Series that I think it is more fitting to have the series end at 13 than at 12. 13 Forsaken (original) 13 Aiel Clans (including the Jenn) 13 months on the Farede Calendar 13 nations at the current time

I didn't check to see if this has been done before and would like to know the link, but if you had the chance to go to a university of the Wheel of Time as a student or instructor, what subjects would interest you the most. Tuition is Free and unlimted money for reasearch (sounds like Rand's schools). Myself, I would like to be in a class taught by Thom Merrilin to become a gleeman, not just for the stories, but the acrobatics, juggling, etc. Next I would like to learn how to fly Raken from the Seanchen. Then I would like to think of something completely stupid and join one of Rand's schools so I would have the money, time and resources to see if it would actua…

I'm sure there was a post about this before, but try as I might, I cannot find it. I've got a thread going for all the 'other' characters that make the story what it is, flesh out the tale, and spur events on in one direction or another, but whom we rarely mention, or give credit to. What I also wanted was to get together a little compository of all those little tiny details that make the story, the characters and the goings-on so vivid, that we dont want Brandon Sanderson to miss, ignore or change at all. Things like; Rand's hair curls around his ears and is cut to his shoulders. His eyes are grey-blue and seem to change between the two. …

We've seen Aran'gar apparently trying to "befriend" Graendal, working on a possible alliance from her PoV (forgotten what book this is in). Graendal seems fairly open to the idea, according to Aran'gar, but we know Graendal's very sneaky so she'd probably be planning to back stab Aran'gar at some point if they did form an alliance. Aran'gar also makes it sound like she's got some plan to kill Rand and rebel against Moridin. But we only have one book left, and a lot that needs to be packed in. So will we see anything come of Aran'gar's plans? If so, what?

So, I'm just starting book 10, i'm actually on the prologue still, i'm that early in it. I've been reading these forums for a couple years now (previously under another name until i forgot my logins), and so i know the general gist of what is to come, but despite having read book 10 once before, i can't remember much else. So for the past 9 books i've been thinking 'Ooooh, where's Demandred? Where's Semirhage?' because they are the two that we havent even had the vaguest idea where they were. I've also though 'who's Cyndane, is she lanfear?' (well, i would have been doing if i hadnt read the spoiler a year or so ago!!) And all of a sudden, in the last 3 chapters…

So we know that Aginor and Balthamel were quite near the surface when the Bore was sealed, they aged, and they were able to touch the world much sooner than the other Forsaken. According to the BWB, Lanfear was sealed deepest of all the Forsaken, whether because she was the one that drilled the Bore, or because of her strength in the Power i'm not sure, maybe it was pure coincidence but nevertheless, she was the deepest buried, and thus retained her youthful appearance and beauty. What confuses me is this; Lanfear is one of the first Forsaken we see (I think Rand / Mat / Perrin see Ishamael/Be'lal in their dreams before we meet Lanfear / Selene?). So this means…

The game Sha'ra, what do you think? Based on something long forgotten, like the game Snakes and Foxes, or just a game with, coincidentally, the main piece, the Fisher, looking like the Dragon did in a previous turning of the wheel. I think it is like the game Snakes and Foxes, about something long forgotten. Ishamael/Moridin obviously seems to think there is more to it than just a board-game. The Fisher is too exact in its detail to be anything but the Dragon, and I think any game based on the Dragon would have at least some clues to what happened the last turning and clues to what might happen this time. The game Sha'ra is one of the keys as to why I believe Rand a…
