Where is, was Malden in relation to Mat, the Band, the Narrows, the Whitecloaks? Was Farstrider's cousin mentioned in book 7? Will the gholam die? And is Tuon a blocked wilder?

I can't remember if this has been discussed before, but the White Tower seems to have an endless supply of gold. Where do they get it from? What are their sources of income? Is it just old money? They pay their Aes Sedai, servants, guards, etc, plus they seem to have enough for lots of other things - travel, supplies, buildings, seafolk porcelain, food, clothing, etc. Where is all this money/gold coming from? I would think they would be more than bankrupt by now.

It was explained by Sheriam in The Dragon Reborn (i think) that since men and women open themselves to the true source, they are vulnerable to being opened to other things, like the shadow via the 13 Myrdraal - 13 Aes Sedai method. The fact that women embrace Saidar and men wrestle Saidin has no bearing, since its the mental opening to the true source, which both have to do in order to channel, which is the weak point. So i was wondering, that in a way Perrin also opens himself, although to something different then the true source but he does open his mind to sense the wolves just like channellers sense the true source, so can he be turned against his will? I know th…

In TDR, Nyneave and Egwene are in with Suian Sanche after their return to the tower and are given the task of hunting the Black Ajah. They are attacked by the Gray Man (or Men) as soon as they return to the Novice quarters. Who knew to have an assassin waiting there to split their skulls for them. Who, other than Suian (not a DF) and some random male servents, knew they were even back in the tower. Verin - let's not get started on that one, Verin is not a DF, her POV's are pretty clear. If she was Black, Verin could have killed all three, plus Mat and Hurin, in their sleep at any time on the journey from Toman Head. Sheriam - She would have been …

I'm starting to think maybe Masema is being run by one of the Chosen. I searched the boards but couldn't find anything pertinent on this. He started to worship Rand at the end of TGH Moraine sends the Shienarians to Ghealdan and it is here that Masema starts preaching fairly quickly. Soon enough that word reaches the crew following Rand within a month. Like maybe he's being Capital "C" Compelled to sow Chaos. Like Elza is Compelled, after a fashion in any case, by Verin to follow Rand and she becomes almost feverish with the desire for him to survive to TG. It seems like that same kind of single-minded obsession that stems from the use of Compulsion. …

Hello. I did a search initially but couldn't really find anything. I was just wondering if someone might have a list or place to point me to find all the various names of the forms the blademasters use in the books while in melee. For example, "Boar rushes down the mountain," etc. I will probably do this myself eventually when I read through the books again, but just curious if anyone had them handy now. Many many thanks!

I just thought about different kind of folks we have met during the books - the are obviously different people groups, races, colours - there are man and woman :-) There are homo, hetero, poli, mono, celibacy all kind of sexual ideas (even so I'm not sure about homosexual man?) There are different professions - class systems everything BUT no disabled people!!! No blind, deaf, physical disabled, anything - they can't all be healed - so where are they? Being who I am (in Randland) and doing what I do (in the real world) I don’t think I missed them or?

The SS. Now hear me out. Just from a cursory look I can list quite a few comparisons, and I wonder if RJ was trying to give us a hidden message concerning their purpose and fate. Let us take the most bland comparisons; 1) Black uniforms with a high collar. 2) Upon promotion the first thing you would get would be the Sig-run, a silver double "S" which was put on your collar. First thing given to a promoted Ashaman is a silver sword put on the exact same spot. 3) SS stands for Schutzstaffel. Meaning protective legion/troop, the guarding legio/troop. Asha'man stands for guardian/defender as well. 4) Both are an elite military order out…

Like it says. If you could be any WoT character at all, who would it be and why? I have to say I'd be Aviendha. I love the Aiel way of thinking about everything, and I just think Aviendha's a plain cool character. Liked her since the beginning (Of her coming ni) What about you?

I have just recently purchased the FULL WoT audio book collection to date (geeze that was expensive). When i was burn the countless CD's to my itunes I realised that i wanted some cool cover art. Now i'm not the biggest fan of Sweet's cover art because of it's inconsistency but it has to be said it's a hell of alot better than the UK book covers which are boring to say the least. As i proceeded to place the cover art into itunes i just looked awful with that garish text and "best seller" slogans. So i set out on my epic quest to find some decent quality pictures of Sweet's art. Now it wasn't short or easy but i've managed to find nearly all the art for the books…

I have been trying for awhile now to figure what evidence that Elaida has against Siuan. She is only guessing about Rand being able to channel(at that time). She talks to the girl at the farm, but I don't understand what she over heard to be able to tell Elaida that is so damning. It just seems to me that is all she has was not enough to go to the hall with. I don't understand why Siuan was deposed because she has a relation with Rand, when Elaide knows the same things(Rand must be at the last battle) and she tries a relation with Rand too. Seems she is just as guilty as what Siuan did.

I just read the part in the BWB covering Hawkwing and it mentions he had a half-mad advisor who was possibly the cause of his sudden hate for Aes Sedai. In EotW Ishamael tells Rand in a dream that he "whispered" in Hawkwings ear and he attacked Tar Valon. It also says that the advisor didn't seem to age in the forty(?) years he was around. So was this advisor Ishamael?

We know that there are three Seafolk sisters, all librarians, and all relatively weak in the power. Since we know that there are some seafolk women of great strength, I am wondering whether there is a lottery or did they just choose girls of limited potential, as seems to be the case with the three known sisters. To call Sea Folk heirarchy complex is to understate it so I am thinking that clans lower on the proverbial totem pole might be more likely to be sent. Maybe an entire clan (or a wavemistress or windfinder) can screw up so bad as warrant having one of their own sent to the White Tower, away from the salt, forever. Would the Sea Folk windfinders be certai…

i was reading this short story about the strike at shayol ghul: http://www.tor.com/shayol.html and it mentions that men cannot form circles and can only be invited in a circle formed by women. Now, its been almost two years since i read the books but i don't remember this fact being mentioned in any of the books, not even in Knife of Dreams. I clearly remember Sammael telling us that a man wrapped in Saidin cannot be compelled, but i doubt any of the forsaken mentioned this fact. Maybe i just forget. Can anyone tell me in which book this fact was mentioned?? Also, with only female channelers, 13 is the maximum number for a circle, but when men and women lin…

Ok, this I've had the strongest suspicion that it was Vandene who killed Adeleas, ever since I first read the part where Adeleas is murdered. Who would Adeleas accept tea from? Elayne and them should have guessed it from the beginning, because the only person who I can see her taking anything from would be her own sister, Vandene. Throughout the rest of the series, it seems Vandene kind of loses it, wearing Adeleas' clothes and shit, but i think it's all just a cover. The only thing I needed was one scrap of evidence, one little thing to put this together, and it came to me while doing another read-through. I was reading TGH, the part where Moiraine is attacked by the Dra…

One chapter a group of "merchants" approach him and his campsite. Before they can really do / say anything he rushes the leader, who is female, (which btw I am confused because of his issues with killing females, so much so he couldn't bring himself to kill a FORSAKEN female), kills them all and makes them kneel to him as the Dragon Reborn. Than he doesn't even recall the leader being female, but sees that all the bodies are male. This whole scene just oozes madness, so was this one of the first real moments that the madness from the taint takes him?

When Cadsuane first introduces herself to Rand, she tells him that she had captured more men than any other three sisters, or words to that effect. Then she says "I've got a nose" implying she has some Talent for sniffing out male sparkers. We know this is not true; her success in finding men who can channel is due to the 8-pointed star Ter angreal she wears as a hair ornament.

When TEoTW was split int 2 books, I guess a new prologue was written. My original copy is still in readable shape, thanks to the book binding class I took 25 years ago, so I'd hate to go buy a new copy just to get the new prologue. Does anyone know if the prologue is available for download?

I know that RJ has now stated that - THEY ARE NOT THE SAME - But is that a recent change? Did RJ screw up Demandred's POV at the Cleansing such that he wrote himself into a corner and had to abort his original plan of Taim = Demandred? Prior to the cleansing RJ stated that we had seen all the Forsaken - Counterparts. After the Cleansing, he backtracks and says that we have not. I really think that he originaly planned for Taim = Demandred but just made a mistake in Demandred's POV at the Cleansing. What are your feelings on this? Has anyone ever asked him?

Sorry but can not recall names at this time but here it goes. Early in KOD chapther 2 i think an AS from the rebels goes and sees Eldia (mispelled) giving an oath saying she will only teach the new weaves she learned from the rebels to the armolan. then later in the book Ewgene conforts her and she admites that Ewgene is still armolan. so how will that work. she can not break any oath unless she is black and she does not appear to be one so does her oath to Eldia hold

the oath rod in the WT is marked with the number three but the rod that the aiel make Galina swear on is marked with three number ones or the number for one hundred eleven. Does the number make a difference in the effect of the oath or oaths sworn on it? The reference is pg 280 in tPoD pb edition. Also, this is my first post, so go easy on me.

Ever since the 4th book, we've known that Moiraine has had very specific plans on Lan's bond eventually getting passed onto Nynaeve. To paraphrase her reasoning it was to "keep him alive so that he would not kill himself uselessly in some revenge quest or in a never-ending battle in the blight that he could not win." for the first reason.....for the 2nd, it was because there was "another woman that was going to need him, much like she did, to show her the ways of the world, to protect her and to teach her all the hard lessons that Moiraine learned from Lan during their many years together." Its been obvious to anyone reading these books who THAT would ultimately end up be…

I was wondering if anyone thinks that when Egwene finds out about Perrin allowing the colaring of all those Wise Ones how she is gonna react? We all know her feelings twards the Seanchan, and I was wondering if anyone else thinks her affection for the Aiel (shido not withstanding) might bring herself to end up hurting if not killing him. In one of the book, I forget which ;D, there were a series of murders committed..including the philosopher of the school in caihrien; who do u suppose sent the ghollum to kill him? theres definitely a reason for his death i suppose. i think he knew too much of what happens to the wheel and that there will come a time when people will forget about the dark one and the same thing will repeat again with the drilling of the bore etc. this also sheds some serious light regarding the relationship between Meirin(lanfear) and the DO. he is extremely protective of her and risks nothing in losing her for example killed by balefire. he needs her whole in the pattern so that when…

And we'll have A Memory of Light. Or that's what Brandon Sandersons blog says. But I have to wait longer. I'm reading them in Dutch so I can wait until they are translated... How long have you been reading The Wheel of Time? I just finnished Knife Of Dreams 2 months ago and I'm already sick of waiting... Some of you guys must really have nerves of steel... ;D *looks at the post* Pretty useless is it? *Thinks* State your WOW (no not World Of Warcraft) moments out of the books here. :)

I don't understand why Rand would just fix or reseal the bore, as most people here seem to believe. The next turning of the wheel will only see the bore reopened, as per discussions with Harad Fel (sp?). Given the all the turnings, all the DO has to sit back and bide his time, one of the turning will surely set him free. Sooner or later the age lace will weave out a Dragon that does not make it. Unless this is just a big endless loop that can never be broken and the Last Battle has been fought forever. If the wheel just keeps turning all these ages and the DO is ALWAYS resealed in the bore, then what motive does the DO have to break out if he keeps get the same thing ove…
