Is there anything else we can call male channelers, as a whole, besides Asha'Man. The reason I ask is because in all likelihood the Aes Sedai will be bonding soldiers andd dedicated. If memory serves the only "real" Asha'Man are with Logain, Rand or Taim's and all of Taim's are Darkfriends; I don't see Taim parting with any Darkfriends. I mean is there any official title to use as a distinction between Asha'Man, male channelers and Asha'Man, the rank. Hope I've been clear, if not, I will clarify.

  3. Started by Feral,

I have a question about something in the last chapter of KoD, when the Red Sisters travel to the BT via a gateway. Have I missed something? Cos I thought Elaida told Beonin not to reveal the weave for a gateway to any other sisters? I can't remember if Tarna was in the room at the time and saw the weave but if she did know it, would she do it right in front of other sisters? Even if she did, in Pevara's PoV there was no mention of the gateway being anything out of the ordinary which stikes me as very odd...

Three times that I can find, the bond is mentioned as compulsion Moraine tells Lan in TGH "I've never used our bond to compel you" One of the Salidar AS asks Alanna why she didn't use the bond to "compel" Rand in LoC Myrell actually does compel Lan, (or so it appears) to keep him from killing everyone he comes in contact with when he arrives outside of Salidar. So how is this not "Forbidden Compulsion" when it's used by nearly every AS, except, oddly enough, the Reds. Or are you just not supposed to use compulsion on another Sister?

  5. We know quite well from the books that the Seanchan are well aware that the AS they capture mostly have no / little fighting value because of the three oaths. But since that is the case they must have also noted that some (say 10%) CAN be used as weapons. That being the case, when they find an AS that can fight it should not have taken them long to discover WHY they can fight - i.e. they are BA. I am surprised that this is not noted in the books. What is your opinion on this? Has it been discussed before?

  6. Started by DuDZiK,

I've been wondering what Mat will do in the last book, other than saving Moiraine. He said he's going to fight the Seanchan, but the only places that we know the Seanchan are going to attack is Tar Valon. Oh they have hinted at them going for Ilian or Arad Doman I think, but according to that prophecy Rand got from the Aelfinn(sp?) the lands are supposed to be divided basically as they are, are they not? Now before the Last Battle Mat has to get his hands on the Horn of Valere again, and what better way to do this than for Mat to go and get it and inadvertantly save Tar Valon's behind from the Seanchan? Not sure that there's be enough time for Mat to do this, since h…

The Light This is what the Light has in terms of military potential. I've given them points on how valuable I consider them to be. Each Aiel is probably at least twice as valuable as a soldier than a wetlander. Borderlanders and Seanchan get an extra halfpoint. Warders are tough but few in numbers, as are Ogier. There are 250,000 Ogiers in Westlands - let's assume 10% will fight. Younglings are insignificant numerically. Other numbers based on Westland Armies estimates e.g. http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/~melmoth/Armies.htm. 440,000 Aiel *4 250,000 friendly wetlanders *2 260,000 Borderlands *2.5 250,000 Hailene and Coenne *2.5 150,000 AS armies *2 25,000 O…

I know that the warder bond snaps when an Aes Sedai is stilled/killed. Well, when Siuan Sanche got back her ability, she also feels the loss of her Warder. So, does this mean that when the Aes Sedai is Healed and restored to her ability, the bond reactivates? Wouldn't that also mean that Lan's Bond with Moiraine should return if she returned from the Tower of Ghenjei? Just speculation, of course.

Any good speculation about what the large darkhound pack Perrin encounters in COT is looking for? Whatever happened to those hounds anyway? Are they still at large? Sorry if this has been talked about before.

I'm thinking about what the relationship between Semihrage and Cadsuane is going to turn into. We know that when captured in the Age of Legends, Semihrage so terrified her captors, (her captors!) that they helped her escape. I just don't see Cadsuane knuckling under, especially once they have her safely collared, as I am saure they will. That last will likely be Nynaeve's idea, since she has done it before. I can't see Rand objecting as it will cause her no harm and, well, she did blow of his hand. Would the Chair if Rebuke work on someone who felt no guilt? Thoughts?

I'm reading book 8, and just wondered how many more modern words there are going to be. I love the books, but do find it kind of weird that Elayne would use a word such as 'trash'. I appreciate that RJ was american but trash isnt a word that we use in England, and I've always thought of Andorans to be kind of english. Also there was a french-derived word in there that seemed kind of out of place... can't remember what it was i'll look for it tonight but i wondered how the dialogue of the Randlanders would have evolved to include our-world-specific words... I'm not making much sense, am I?! Think on it this way. The books were primarily written in English, which…

So I have been thinking about this for quite a while now and wanted to share. How is it possible for Sul'dam to train a damane? We know that Sul'dam can channel, however much they refuse to admit it. I guess what im saying is, how do the sul'dam train them? From what we have seen of Egwene, her Sul'dam told her to imagine that tree burning, or something along those lines. So is that how they train thier Damane? If so, is this a way to relearn the lost weaves? If you want something hard enough and think about it happening, will the weaves just flow together for you? I've been thinking about how the AOL channelers would have found new weaves without dying the in p…

Does anyone know whether it is Careane or Sareitha that is the DF who killed Adeleas and Ispan and maybe the Kinswomen as well? I have a feeling it is Careane, IDK why but I just do. Or do any of you think it could still be Myrelle? working behind the scenes in hiding or something.

I was watching TV and came across a movie made in 1955 about Queen Elizabeth I and Sir Walter Raleigh. It is called The Virgin Queen with Bette Davis. The costume styles and interior decor scream Wheel of Time. There is even a scene where the captain of the Queen's guards (Walter) is assembling and reviewing his troops and ladies of the court are in a balcony crooning over the soldiers below. It is reminiscent of the Warders and Aes Sedai in the White Tower. For anyone who wants a glimpse at the world of the Wheel of Time this is it.

I cam across something rather curious while re-reading tEotW. Chapter 49- The Dark One Stirs Emphisis mine. This, to me, implies that she either knows how to 'pick at' a weave like the Aiel or knows how a way to just make them go away. I also get the feeling she can sense Residues, but that one I'm not so certain of. Your thoughts?

  16. Started by vinay87,

I'm undecided on this. I haven't quite pictured Galad as "Die Aes Sedai witch" type. So, my question is thi.s How much do you think the whitecloaks' look on things is going to change with Galad as the Lord Captain Commander? I figure that the Whitecloaks become atleast a little more tolerant towards users of the One Power. And also, they don't go around drawing the Dragon's Claw on doors of those they think are Darkfriends. I also see the Whitecloaks as a major assistance to the side of the light when the battle part of Tarmon Gaidon starts. However, I don't quite know where Galad's feelings for Egwene, the Amyrlin Seat, fit in. Its quite funny picturing that the Fla…

  18. Started by Despair,

Finally finished through Knife of Dreams for the 4th time. My question is: Why does RJ hate women so much? He developed Mat and Perrin into somewhat likeable characters. If that didnt work, we got Uno, Lan, and a cast of many. Besides Egwene, every female in the books is flighty, bitchy, mean, and a downright PITA. Why did he do this?

  19. Started by trakand_01,

I've just finished reading CoS, which means that i've just read the scene where the High Lords of Illian offer the crown to Rand. Despite being annoyed at Rand's arrogance to think that 'King of the World' has a nice ring to it, it is events immediately preceding this that I am querying. So Rand has killed Sammael with Balefire, and put Liah out of her mashadar-induced misery. Firstly I found this to be a massively dis-satisfactory way to end Sammael, I had thought there to be a much more intense battle with what has been for the last few books probably the most prominent Forsaken (after Lanfear went through the doorway). Is Sammael actually dead? It seems incr…

I'm only on book 8 so please bear with me. I have read that Lanfear returns as Cyndane and i know moridin has more than one cour'souvra around his neck so i put two and two together. What would be the effect on moghedien and cyndane of having moridin placed in a cour'souvra? What would be the effect on Moridin of having Moghedien and Cyndane leashed as damane? Just wondered.

  21. Started by trakand_01,

Is there something somewhere that says TG is going to be one battle, or a few days of intense battle? If not... is it possible that we're already in Tarmon Gaidon? That ever since the very beginning of the books we've been fighting TG? I mean surely the definition of TG is the battle to determine the fate of the Light and the Dark? Well, we're doing that already. Every battle tips the scales one way or the other. We're already picking off the Forsaken, the DO is already breaking free. We keep saying 'When TG comes', but what if we're already halfway through it?

Will Rand and Galad find out that they are half brothers? And what effect might that have on them?

  23. Started by Dragon21,

So, will Tam finally get to see Rand again before this is all over with? I would certainly expect so, but then again I was expecting them to meet up before now. Wonder how Tam will feel seeing Rand again? Will he be a proud dad, or will he not quite be sure what to think of it all? Will Tam know that Rand knows who his real parents are now? Of course Tam will love Rand still, but it might be hard to deal with. And I am betting Rand will always see Tam as his father. Who knows? I hope Rand gets to see Tam in action at TG. What do you all think will happen?

  24. Started by Dragon21,

So of all the "Real" Aes Sedai who have actually sworn on the oath rod, is anybody's favorite not Moiraine? ;D She is my favorite regardless. I like her cause she is so cool, calm, smart, and powerful. (not to mention beautiful) Her attitude is much better than the other holier than thou Aes Sedai too.

  25. This is just a random thought but do you remember how RJ always said that "A Memory of Light" was a working title for book 12? Given all that has happend in the past year concerning the fate of the final book I suposed it would now be inappropriate to call it anything other than AMoL. I mean, that is the title by which everone has come to know the final book. Still I can't help but wonder if RJ had completed it if it would have ended up with a differnt title.

  26. Started by bearit,

Now that we know who is writing A memory of Light I am wondering about the two prequals. We know RJ left extensive notes about A memory of light, but what about the two prequals. I'm sure he had some notes on the prequals but would they be extensive enough for Brandon Sanderson to complete them. I don't think signing Brandon on right now would be a good idea, I think we should take this one step at a time and see how he handles AMOL (I'm confident he will do fine). Do you think the two other prequals should be finished?

  27. I was going through the Cadsuane thread when one particular quote stood out to me: I'd known that for a while now in some form or another. It was always lurking in the recess's of my mind but it didn't really click until I read that. Now when I think about it I realise that as long as they can make themselves believe something to be true, and we all know Aes Sedai are nothing if not stubborn pig headed braying mules who can brainwash themselves and others into believing the sky is sunflower yellow, then the oath's suddenly seem a whole lot less oath worthy... Any thoughts? Opinions?

As i've said in another thread, i seem to remember that 'Let the Lord of Chaos Rule' was an order that the DO gave to... Demandred, I think. Does anyone have a transcript of that order being given? I just wondered if it was possible that it wasnt referring to the DO as the LoC at all, but he was giving the order to let Rand live, with Rand being the LoC. If so, and if it was Demandred who received the order it could perhaps explain a little why we havent seen him (he's letting Rand get on with it for now) and why Moridin helped Rand kill Sammael (he went against the order)... Feel free to shoot me down ;D
