Anyone who's ever played a multi-person RPG such as Dungeon Siege or Baldurs Gate will know that normally you have several characters, and each have a specific role in the group. So you'll have the 'fighter', the 'magician', the 'thief' and so on. What role do you think each of our main characters / nations play in WoT? I was thinking along the lines of determining the following; Rand Mat Perrin Seanchan (on the whole) Aiel Aes Sedai Thom Asha'Man

One of the Aiel Wiseones, I believe, had the dream of Rand cleaving the world in half with a flaming sword. We know that the Seanchan believe that the Dragon Reborn must kneel to the Empress (might she live forever ;D), and we know that Rand would never do such a thing. Now the new Empress, Tuon, just so happens to be married to Mat, a ta'varen and one of Rand's best friends. Oh, and those two love birds also just so happen to have agreed that they will fight each other for the sovereignty of the lands. So I imagine that at some point in time, Rand will have to have a meeting with Tuon and negotiate a deal whereby the Seanchan will keep many of the territories t…

This may have been discussed before but I'm new here. :) What exactly do we know about TG? How long will it be? And what will Rand have to do to reseal the bore? I moved recently and about half of my copies of the series was destroyed. So I don't have the references handy. But I'm really interested to see what people think.

So let me get this straight. Mat, Elayne and company find the Bowl. The Bowl is the only way to beat the weather which everyone wants. The Sea Folk windfinders are necessary for knowledge of weaving weather. Not only do they get the Bowl but they get Aes Sedai teachers as well. This seems ludicrous. I know the Sea Folk are supposed to be great bargainers but this is a great deal.

So Egwene, Amyrlin Seat of the 'rebel' Aes Sedai, is captured and in the White Tower. She's planting seeds in the sisters and gathering a sort of cult around her of the novices and accepted. She has become the sort of leader that you want: compassionate but firm in authority, inspiring, determined, and considers the needs of the group as a whole. Then there's Elaida's prophecy. She thinks it's her that she foretold will be victorious, but it never clearly meant her and I'm sure we think it all means Egwene will win out. Speaking of those two, I can't wait to see Egwene wait on Elaida... in another thread I mentioned the battle of wills between Cadsuane and Tuon, well…

The very first fantasy book I ever read was The Elf Stones of Shannara more than 10 years ago when I was in my early teens. Last night in a fit of sleepless pique (this blows I give up I'm gonna read dammmit!) I decided to pick that volume up. It has always held a special place to me as it opened up a whole new world of imagination to me. Anyway the Rovers play a significant role in this and other of the Shannara novels. While they differ in many ways from the Traveling people they are also similiar in many ways. I will of course touch on those in a moment. I submit that since Elfstones was written in the late 70s, Terry Brooks' Rovers gave RJ an image to base…

Im rereading the series, and in TSR when Siuan is being taken by Elaida and her followers her Warder is killed and she doesnt even notice....no reaction. Seems to be a pretty large contradiction from what we know of the border / aes sedai bond, where she should have felt his death as surely as it was her own. any one else notice this?

I have been re-reading the books and noticed this passage in " A crown of swords "Leane tilted her head. “In that case, Mother, if you will forgive me, there’s a man in Lord Bryne’s camp . . . After all, whoever heard of a Green without even one Warder?” From the sudden quickening in her voice, you might have thought she was off to meet a lover. Considering what Egwene had heard about Greens, perhaps there was not that much difference." Is this just an innocent as sounding as it appears or is it Leane reporting to someone about Egwene .

In the crown of swords, Rand is fighting Samiael and they wind up in Shadar Logoth. They are attacking each other at some distance with verying degrees of accuaracy. They cant see each other. Sam brings down a lightning bolt or something, the ground gives way and Rand winds up hanging on with one hand. Somebody helps him out, somebody that rand almost recognizes but doesn't. Who could this be? I've got nothing.

How does one successfully portray or depict the ageless look of Aes Sedai in art? I always have such a hard time imagining the ageless look of older AS, especially the ones with white hair because the first thing that comes to mind are the terrible portrayals of old women by not-so-old actresses in cheap Chinese dramas. Like, when they just put on a white/grey wig tied in a bun and some makeup to make their complexions look more weathered/old but somehow they're lacking real wrinkles of any sort. >_> I don't have a picture of that unfortunately, but let's just say it looks very incongruous and not at all attractive or convincing.

This is just a question I´ve been thinking about for a long time. Who is the hawk that Perrin will meet and that he´s supposed to followed by? Is it Berelain? If it is it will be interesting to see which one he will end up with in the end. In one of Egwene´s dreams the hawk and the falcon are ready to slit each others throats, and Min also sees Perrin with to women one hawk and one falcon. Berelain is single. Could it be that Perrin marries them both? It would certainly be fun if he did... :)

Why Rand became this wreck? Why? After the first few books I've thinking that Rand will become more and more powerful with the time. Until the Last Battle where he'll be able to stand against the Dark One. If I'm not wrong, DO is some sort of god. And in my imagination the man who want to opose a god must be really powerful. A true Dragon Reborn. Instead of that he became this poor man, both physically and mentally broken. And he's alive only by the good will of his enemyes and some help from his friends. Now for Tarmon Gai'don we have this one^ against a god... easy bet if you ask me. P.S. Sorry for my poor english, I just want to share my pain with you.

I've been reading the Wheel of Time Series for... oh... nigh on seven years now, and I've read through it at least 20 times - maybe more. Now before I get into what it is about the series I dislike so much, I want to make perfectly clear just how much I love the Wheel of Time. The creativity of the world that Mr Jordan created, his mastery of writing a compelling story/plot... I could go on and on about what I love about the series, but that's not what this thread is for ;) What drives me near insane whenever I read this series is the social interaction between the characters. Contrary to the rest of the series, there doesn't seem to be any diversity in how the char…

It has occurred to me that it is doubtful that the dark one is a god. If the dark one was a god, then the only other person who could stand up to him would be the Creator, and he has stepped out of things, letting the mortals decide things, for good or bad, on their own. If the dark one is a god, Rand stands no chance. He is crippled, half mad, going blind, and missing an arm. There is only one way that Rand can win if the dark one is a god. My theory is that he was a man, a remarkably powerful and evil man but a man none the less. There are many ways that this theory fits. The battle between the light and the dark has been going on for centuries, and the only for t…

a very interesting thing just occurred to me. Why have the forsaken not re drilled the bore after their release? Fel said that no man could match the creator, and lanfear managed to bore the original, so why not do it again? they have so many channelers at their command, why bother trying to destroy all the seals.

Have I overlooked something in the books saying that only men are allowed to be Children of the Light, or is it just implied? Or might there be Whitecloak women that we haven't happened to meet? Just wondering.

what is going on here? I was rereading a bit of Winter's heart and i came across a POV of nyneave. She mentioned that she could not reach Rands side wounds because the power was held away from it somehow. She thought it was a ward of Saidin. Could it be that the wounds now cant hurt him (much) further but they also keep saidar out, To what purpose i really cannot say. So please clarify this for me. Why did Flinn ward the wound from Saidar? Maybe if it wasnt, Nyneave could heal the wound.

"Rays of silver and blue flashed about her fiery hair, and a soft golden light" This is from TFoH,Ch26 Can anyone think of the revelance of Silver and Blue. I am racking my brain and coming up blank. Are those someone's colors and I missed it. Like Moridin' Red and Black? Soft golden light? Most likely it's something that hasn't happened yet, but I could have overlooked something.

The scene where Moridin is sitting in front of that game board with the 'Fisher' that is supposed to be Rand, at the end of that scene Moridin says to himself something along the lines of: "It's hard to lose when you're playing both sides." Anyone care to venture a guess at what the significance of this passage is? Could it mean that Moridin is an agent of the Dark One and other being, maybe even the Creator?

We know that it's possible for women who are severed/stilled to survive if they can find something to live for, but are there any documented cases of men who have been severed/gentled surviving? And if not, do you think it is just the White Tower's treatment of them that is responsible for the zero survival rate?

This could be a relatively pointless post, but the pictures in the top left, we know we have Rand, Egwene, Nynaeve, Faile, Mat, Moiraine etc, and there's an Asha'man. Is this supposed to be Taim? If it is, there's a massively overlooked detail... doesnt Taim loathe swords?

Hey guys, I'm just re-reading the series again, and I noticed in The Path of Daggers on page 9 (paperback)"Tenobia would die a maidin. Which meant her uncle Davram would succeed, if she left him alive after this, or else Davram's heir." So it would be probable that 'ol Davram kicks the bucket in AMoL, leaving Faile/Perrin as the Queen/King of Saldea? I'm sure other people have noticed this before, I'm personally ashamed I missed it the first two times I read it. :(

So from everything that i've seen and read over the years on what Cadsuane will teach Rand, all generally accepted theories seem to point to one as the most popular: she will teach him to feel emotion again- pain, love, happiness, etc etc. I know this might be a little far stretched, but the other day I was thinking and wondered: "what if she actually has to teach him something a little more specific to what he has to do to win the battle against the DO?" Personally, I feel like thats what Moiraine will be doing again when she returns from the world of foxes and snakes (i suspect she's going to have some priceless piece of info to pass on, but i dont want to hi…

In the stories, there always seem to be sparks between the females and the males... In the third book, when Mat saves the three girls from The Forsaken, the Black Ajah, from the Heart of the Stone, in Tear, they don't even bother to thank him. And even when they apologize to him later, Elayne seems to get extremely angry... Perrin has some insane trouble with Faile, and she even considers cheating on him in KoD!!! Mat gets some serious headaches from Tuon (although it does work out in the end.) Thom and his various lovers always end with him exiled/in trouble... Don't even get me started on Rand and the Harem...

I'm currently re-reading the books in light of semi-recent events. I'm also taking more care into the whole underlying currents, tying everything together, etc. In simple terms, watching for things I didn't notice the first time. In doing this I've noticed that RJ isn't always perfect in his writing, and his simple errors may help some of us realize he wasn't perfect ;). For example, in Book Two; The Great Hunt, Page 507, line 25 (Paragraph 6), "Nervously, he sought the void, and it came. And the distant thought floated outside it that it was only the void. The glow of saidar was not there." This is Rand he's speaking of, and he's in a stedding however, of …

Hello, I would like to know if other WoT fans agree with this. The thought of having another author finish the series is cataclysmic. Either it will be someone attempting to imitate Jordan's style and intuit his intent - which will almost certainly be excrutiating - or it will (more likely) be someone attempting to incorporate elements of Jordan's style into their own interpretation of his notes. It seems highly likely to me that either scenario will be a jarring and cynically commercial capstone to RJ's monolithic and brilliant personal accomplishment in creating WoT. No matter how expertly it's written it's just totally unavoidable that the final book - whic…
