  1. Egwene has spent 2 months as Damane. She's spent something like 40 days as Suldame of Moghedian. She's learned to embrace crippling pain. Would an adam still hold her? I was re-reading TGH and the though occurred to me, while I wasd reading about egwene's attempts to channel her own collar off, that the types of pain infliction that make an attempt at escape or resist damane training would simply not work on Egwene any longer. She has spent the last few weeks getting severely beaten several times a day, what's a little nausea while attempting to channel her collar loose? What torture could a suldame inflict that Egwene would not resist? Suddenly, it seems li…

  2. Started by cloglord,

When Verin and the boys enter the stedding outside of Carhien in TGH, they run into some Aiel. A fight between Shinierians and Aiel is narrowly avoided, in part, because an ogier shows up yelling at the Aiel to remember the pact. A reference to how long the pact had been in effect led me to do some digging, and apparently this pact was made at the end of the breaking, when ogier were first dicovering steddings in the spine of the world. So what is the nature of this pact? Why would ogier make a pact with Aiel, and what is the signifigance of the fact that apparently the Aiel have agreed to do no violence in a stedding? Is there another reference to this pact t…

  3. I've been pondering over something Cyndane said while Rand was busy with the Choedan Kal. (If this topic has been discussed already, forgive me) When Cyndane was making her way through the forest, she ran into Alivia. When Alivia started throwing the Power at her, Cyndane made the comment that she "suffered her second shock...this woman was stronger than she was before she was held by the Aelfinn and the Eelfinn. It was impossible, no woman COULD be." Did Lanfear simply have a huge ego about her own strength, or was there some type of pact she had that enabled her to be the strongest woman EVER? Why was she confident that there would simply be no one str…

Wouldn't it be ironic if the Shaido end up as being the remnant of a remnant Aiel that survives the last battle? I mean they are going home and it seems like they just plan to stay there and rebuild and won't take part in the last battle.

Ummmm i'm not sure if this goes here as it's not techically a discussion question but i'm curious about one of the characters in the books. Elyas Machera I looked him up on Wikipedia and it says that he trained Lan which I don't remember, and has an Aes Sedai but where is she? Who is she? Did she get rid of the bond or something? Or is that all not answered in the books?

I haven't seen this done before but if it has, ah well. People who I am confident will have fatal or severing encounters Matt vs. Demandred Matt got that ter'angreal for a reason and I think Matt and Demandred will meet because Matt is the Light General and Demandred is the Shadow's General Nyneave vs. Moghedien this has been coming since tSR. w/wo Moridin's permission this is coming These are the fairly confidents Toun, with Mat's help, vs. Arangar I am not sure but I believe this will happen cuz Arangar tried to kill Matt in Salidar and failed. I think Toun will actually fight and kill her because of the two river's mens absurd reluctance to harm…

  7. Started by Luckers,

Ok, so I've been an advocate of Lan holding back the shadow as it invades the lands of the light. Him heroically fighting insane odds to give people time to muster. It seemed iconic to me. Romantic. But then the brilliant cloglord went and trod all over my nicely dramatic ideas with some cold logic. Damn you! Heh. But seriously, he has a point. Lan begins at World's End somewhere between five and seven days after the Cleansing. Based on Interuldes comments he has somewhere around 1,600 miles to cross, and he has followers to gather. Now even if they he just rides through, finds them on their horses, and joins him, its going to delay him. Best case scenario consid…

  9. Started by cloglord,

I'll preface this post by saying how odd it feels to be questioning RJ's fact checking now that he's gone, it feels a little blasphemous, hopefully I'll be forgiven.... I was working on a re-read of TDR when I noticed that it said, according to Verin's information, that Amico was only 4 years older than elayne and egwene. Since we know that at that time Elayne and Egwene were about 17 this doesn't seem to fit for a number of reasons. First, it would seem that Amico would almost be too young to be Aes Sedai at all, and secondly, it would mean that Amico had spent an incredibly short time as novice and accepted. Further, we know from comments that Avhienda made …

  10. I've been going through the other posts here for the last month or two. I notice that alot of people here really hate or at least strongly dislike alot of the characters in the series. Nynaeve, Elayne, Egwene, Faile, Perrin and even Rand are the character that most seem to have a problem with. I got to say, personally I'm really confused by this. My favorite characters would be Mat, Rand, Lan, Moiraine and others, there are too many cool side characters to name so I won't bother. The others like Elayne, Egwene and the likes aren't particularly my favorite but I don't hate them. I can't understand how people can hate so many of the main characters. If ye hate th…

  12. Started by The Dragon Reborn,

I'm just reading Path of Dagger at the moment (2nd time). I came across a POV that Avi has where she makes a pretty poor gateway. She thinks to herself that the gateways she made to escape Rand was bigger. That had she used that weave, she could have made a far bigger gateway. This got me to thinking: Is this one of the things where the Aiel happen to discover a slightly different weave that achieves the same result and that Avi's weave is more efficient. Did she perhaps discover a more efficient way to travel?

  13. Started by SilverStar,

First off I have had this theory for a while now and I haven't seen that one else has posted it so I decided to, so here goes. I think that there is more to the connection between Rand, Mat, and Perrin than that they are all three Ta'veren and came from the same town. I think that all three of them are a part of Lews Therin. Rand got his Channeling, Mat got Lews Therin's battle smarts and Perrin, well who is to say that Lews Therin wasn't a wolfbrother as well. They all three seem to complement each other, and even Min said that Rand needed to have them around him. I also think that Min, Elayne and Aviendha are all three a part of Ilyena reincarnated. I thin…

  15. ... will you be satisfied? When everything is finished, TG fought, Rand dead / alive (depending on your thoughts), the twins born, Avi's got her triplets, so on and on... will that be enough for you? Or will you get to the end, turn the VERY last page of the VERY last book, and think... more, there has to be more. I think, for me it all depends on the ending of the story. If Rand is dead (truly dead) I will be satisfied. That will be enough, i'll just content myself reading the series over and over, but if he's alive... or if Mat / Perrin are still going strong... if Egwene is still the Amyrlin and the White Tower is still going (I havent read book 11 yet so no spoi…

I was thinking about the Sheild that Lanfear placed on Asmodan. The one that allowed him to trickle channel the power. Could using this type of shield be a means of rehabilitating freed damane? At this point almsot all freed damane lash out wildly with the power apon being given any type of individual contol of the OP. With this type of shield in place they could safely have they're little temper tantrum of the power and afterwords slowly learn to enjoy they're freedom and that they truly can contol the OP themselves. With this sheild in place they could practically be reduced to novice strenth and be taught along side of novices and progress with them and truly learn to …

  19. Two highly debated topics on this Forum: 1. Who Killed Asmodean? 2. Is Sammael dead? The 1st question is the most debated on the entire Forum. The second, I'm not too sure, but I've seen people ask about it so....I came across this interview with CNN, and got some concrete answers: Here is the link to the interview: http://www.cnn.com/chat/transcripts/2000/12/12/jordan/ I've probably spoiled everybodies fun now... :P

Please can you help, as I'm not sure if i have my understanding right here. Is it correct that balefiring someone not only kills them, but removes their thread from the pattern? And that by removing their thread from the pattern, un-does things that have happened, for example balefiring Rahvin brought Aviendha, Mat and Asmodean back to life. How far back in time does it undo things? For example when Rand balefired Rahvin, did it undo EVERYTHING Rahvin had done? Did it bring others back to life too?

  23. Out of curiosity, would it have been possible to bind male channelers against doing harm with the oath rod? ??? As far as I can remember, it works on male channeler too, as in AOL it was used to bind criminals. It potentially could have stopped the breaking and avoided the stigma associated with male channelers. At least that way, when they go mad they can't hurt anyone. I don't going insane could 'over-ride' the oath. The oath rod make the oaths a part of you. The best example that I can see to demonstrate why this should work is when a leashed Aes Sedai was told to lie by her sul'damane, she was in agony writhing on the floor....

  24. hi guys- haven't posted in awhile, but ive got a few questions after starting to reread the series because ive noticed a few things that i may have missed in the past....... 1. when moiraine and siuan realized that verin figured out that Rand is the Dragon reborn, this chapter is written from moiraine's point of view....she starts thinking to herself as if she is about to kill verin, and she literally was about to- she embraces the source and regrets what "she is about to do", when something happens that stops her- how would that have been possible w/out violating the three oaths? 2. when verin, moiraine and liandrin dissapear right before egwene and nynaeve hea…

  25. ... the ONLY problem i've come across, is the FRUSTRATION I feel when something happens, I know the outcome / the truth (having read the series before) but the characters dont see it. A few examples; Dashiva - Rand has just chosen him as his 'companion' following Dumai's Wells... NOOOOOO!!! He's Osan'gar!! Moghedien - Halima has just freed Moggy in Salidar. Egwene (feeling only the male touch to the a'dam) thinks it's Logain. Min / Rand - (book 6) get on with it already!! He's going to fall madly in love with you and you'll 'make his blood boil'. Morgase - she's alive! Gawyn stop being a prat and support Rand. He-did-not-kill-your-mother. an…

  26. Ok one thing that I've been wondering, can the three of them ever go back to being close friends like they used to be? It kinda bothers me that they don't really see each other as friends anymore, not really. The road block as I see it is Rand being able to channel and being the Dragon Reborn. Perrin, to some extent can see past it. But I don't thing Mat can, he really hasn't been the same with Rand at all since discovering that Rand can channel. Even after Tarmon Gai'don. I don't think he'll be able to get past it (he really hates the One Power). If Mat ever discovers Perrin's link to the wolves I can see him starting to treat Perrin similarly to Rand. Also it's poss…

  28. Started by Achmed,

Upon returning to the White Tower, Alviarin took care to dust off the red dirt from her feet, which was only found on Tremalking. This was in CoT, after saidin was cleansed. Could Alviarin have had anything to do with the sa'angreal's destruction? Or the death of the peoples out there?

  29. Regardless of her status there - Prisoner or honored AS Guest - even a prisoner can find out things, especially from creatures like the Finns who apparently, routinely "see" auras about the future. Has anyone elso ever spent so much time with them - AND lived? Just thinking that it could possibly be interesting. Maybe that is part of why she is important for Rand to win TG.

Now, this could very well mean that Rand dies, or there's a body swap et cetera, et cetera, but has anyone actually taken the time to think it through? Many of the prophecies such as this are cryptic, and don't mean what they mean on the surface. My theory is this: to live, you must destroy who you are. The death of the soul, or the death of the personality of oneself is something that is pretty common in all sorts of poetry and things of the sort. It could very well be taken to mean that Rand must eradicate the person he has built himself to be--the hard, emotionless rock--so that he can live at Tarmon Gai'don. Min told Rand that he needs Cadsuane to teach him somet…
