In Lord of Chaos, in the chapter "Under the Dust", when Nynaeve and Elayne are using the need trick to find something to help Rand they first get taken to the White Tower in Tar Valon. Nynaeve assumes that it is some kind of Ter'angreal, angreal, or Sa'angreal that they were getting to, but this isn't supported by anything else in the books. Are there any theories out there as to what was in the tower that would have filled the need so well that it drew the super girls there first? Something that would be kept either behind some barracks or a guardroom in what appears to be a cell? I've got one theory, but it's not based on anything concrete. Is it possible t…

In Thom's article on WOT Wiki, it mentions that an Aes Sedai healed Thom following his encounter of the Fade at White Bridge. Did I miss something? I know later on when Thom and Moiraine are in Tear she does something to his knee healing it slightly, and says she wishes that a good healer had bene near when the wound had happened, but I've been through the series front to back too many times to count and haven't seen where this information came from. Was it the BWB or the Companion? The article mentions that his life was sacved by an Aes Sedai but the damage to his knee was too great to be fully healed. If so, who was it, and how did it happen? Did Thom flee down ri…

What do people think of the Ashaman pins from Badali jewelry? Does anyone own one? http://badalijewelry.com/Wheel-of-Time/asha-man-dragon-pin-8482-24k-gold-plated-bronze.html Also, what do people think of the enameled versions? I don't have the books with me any longer and so can't check but I want to ensure they are accurate before I ever buy one. I'd always envisioned them as essentially enameled little versions of the dragon on the Dragonbanner - but these look rather different. Thoughts? Is a pin that looks like the dragonbanner available somewhere else? I do quite like their Dedicated pins - and I am really quite irked that every flipping …

Hello. I just started to read this book series. I'm reading the English books and my native language is Swedish so some parts can be difficult to understand. Sitters, could someone try and describe what they are? I couldn't really understand what they are from the book and it nagged me and is nagging me every time its mentioned, and it's mentioned more than I expected. I'm getting sick of the brain itch of not knowing. :p that's why I'm here. Thanks a bunch!

I am doing a re-read again and I am on The Dragon Reborn. Something caught my attention. At one point in the earlier books Verin says something to the effect" "As my father used to say, it's time to roll the dice." This is all pre Rhuidean... At one point Mat recalls being some general or some such in a battle and says "its time to roll the dice". I know it seems to be a common saying and such, but is it possible that one of Mat's past lives...or whatever you call it...past selfs..past souls......is Verin's father or some other relation to Verin. As am I writing this, it sounds even more crazy then it did in my head, but there seems to be some s…

According to the companion Nyn was born in 974 and Rand/Mat/Perin 978. So at start of series she would be about 23. But the books tell of her switching the boys as they grow up yet she is only 4 years older then they are? Shouldn't she at least be in her late 20's? Four years is not that big of a difference to be that protective of them.

The Ways provided safe and rapid travel and communication between Stedding until they began to change and Machin Shin, the Black Wind, made them too dangerous to consider using under any circumstance short of an emergency. However, before this change I would think they would be utilized heavily by anyone who could read the Ogier script covering the Guidings. There would be a much greater incentive for one to learn to read Ogier script and therefore many more would do so, leading to even greater use. In my mind, Ogier society (and to a lesser extent any other society with easy access to Waygates) would become much closer to a single, massive community which happens to span…

Never been a big fan of T, but I'm reading right now The World's Most Treasured Love Poems (edited by Suheil Bushrui - strange selection, strange poems, strange (bad?) translations) and there is this poem on page 77-78: Not a bad poem! Now, adapting the last lines (of course, the whole poem can match to Morgase) onto M+T, I can fancy a situation, where Tallanvor sees into Morgase's soul, seeing something which was hidden so deep that "No man has seen before what you saw today", and he became so besotted with her.that he could not leave her side. Or is he just a creep who can't take no for an answer, and will continue to per…

Am I the only one who thought Rand going to see the Aiel history was a little pointless or he basicly got a huge pass? Only 1 in 3 men come out because seeing the aiel history is so shocking for them. But Rand not being raised aiel might of been shocked but I doubt it was going to be so traumatic he would never come out. So it seems like his becoming chief of chiefs was made a bit easy for him. As long as he survived the walk to and from, there really was no chance he was going to fail the test.

Elan Morin Tedronai was a philosopher in the Age of Legends. He joined the Dark One because he believed that a victory by Shaitan would end the cycle of rebirth, which he equated with suffering. He personally desired an end to the suffering. He was probably a depressing person to be around. Elan believed that the Dark One and the Dragon have fought thousands of battles throughout the Ages, and will keep fighting until the Dark One is victorious. He concluded that the Dark One's victory was inevitable. After all, each time the Dark One is defeated, he just comes back for a rematch. He overlooked two possibilities: 1- A victory by the Dark One w…

Hi! New here. I am going through WOT for the second time and am back to book seven. When I first went through the series about 5 years ago I just gunned through it. Going back through again made me appreciate it a bit more. There is one piece in general that I think is brilliant. I have seen some talk about it on other threads I have looked at in here. That is the emergence of female dominated orientation to the cultural. I think Jordan demonstrated some very insightful thoughts on what would happen if women had a form of power that could not be overcome, and men who could channel, and by default men in general, were put in a culturally subservient role. While …

I have to admit to some really serious confusion here. Don't get me wrong, I love Moirraine. I loved her Gandalf-esque way of leaving the party. I love her calm solemnity, and her caring nature. I'm actually really upset that she did not get to see Rand at the end of the book; why couldn't her AND Cadsuane have seen Rand canter off at the end? Between her and the soon-to-be Amrylin, I think Moirraine deserved it more. She also deserves the Stole and Seat more too, but that's another gripe. But really, why, WHY was she needed in the cave confronting the Dark One? Nyaneave makes perfect sense; Immensely strong, helped cleanse Saidin, but why Mo…

So apparently the entire WOT community missed something big about the ending of the WOT series, or at least no one has asked Brandon about it, so what did we miss or take at face value that meant something else? Maybe since it is a BIG reveal, BS can give us a hint of where to start looking? (In a recent interview about hi latest book a fan asked for a mysterious or cryptic remark and he said this about the WOT instead, that fans missed something big about the ending.) You can find it at the very bottom of this page, the last question in the "Fan's Questions" section. https://www.deseretnews.com/article/900003841/qanda-brandon-sanderson-on-the-importance-of-fiction-an…

I'm bringing up an old topic, but who knows, fresh eyes will see fresh things... I'm lazy, so I will not list all the CAPS text, but I think this is more than enough to start a discussion. We all know that RJ uses the Caps Lock key with a reason, for example Wizard of Oz (DO, who is maybe not the real DO, I suspect that he's just an impostor - "here only a fool would even appear ready to channel" - the real DO has nothing to fear from channeling) always uses CAPS, so when Eg (?) sends messages in her dream this is the result: NYNAEVE, THIS IS EGWENE. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE YOU TO RETURN UNTIL YOU FIND THE BOWL, NOT UNTIL I CA…

I'm on book 6 in my second read through of the series and I realized that I absolutely hate the Aiel. I mean, how the hell can a bunch of nomads with crappy equipment, no armour, no cavalry and no cities defeat the wetland nations? What would be the Aiel's answer to archers? Since they only carry small hide bucklers and wear pajamas into battle. I don't care how skilled a warrior you are, I don't care how young you were when you learned to fight and I don't care how arid and inhospitable your homeland is, if you get shot at under those circumstances you are going to die. Not fielding cavalry is another massive disadvantage, that is an entire arm of your mi…

I didn't know where to put this quote: into the eco thread, or into the pop thread? But, maybe, it deserves its own topic. Why not? We rarely talk about it. So, 1.5 million people as property. Jordan just drops this number with a shrug, but I think it is very interesting. (Maybe Jordan wanted to create a pre-“The Amayar were all dead or dying. Men, women“ —her voice broke — ” children.” -situation, just without further elaboration? The zero reaction to the death of the Amayar was Jordan's biggest disappointment..., KOD, Ch. 22) I accept AB's 1.5 million, because why would he lie about it to himself? Or is he exaggerating it to calm himself? No wonder t…

Anyone else notice the similarities between Dune and WOT? In particular the Aiel remind me of the Fremen, and Rand reminds me of Paul Atreidis the Kwisatz Haderach

with full of typos, so I will wait for the first reactions... ----- By the way, the new book will have a slightly smaller size than the US/UK hardcover editions: 6.00(w) x 9.13(h) x (d) versus 9.5 x 6.5 x 2.5 inches. The cover is ugly, dear Rand, so ugly... Will it be leather or bonded leather (artificial leather), because B&N does not use leather anymore... Plus, I never heard a good thing said about hardcover books by B&N except that they use acid-free paper. Any thoughts?

What time period from the real world could be compared to the world depicted in the series? I'm in the middle of my first read through and I feel like understanding this may give me a better picture when clothing and architecture is described. I have searched online for a comparison but haven't been able to find any information. Due to my lack of knowledge of historical architecture, technologies, etc, I cant come to a conclusion myself. I think I remember the alcoholic drink brandy being mentioned, which was not really discovered until the 15th century, but I feel like the world depicted would be older than that. Though this is a fantasy series though so dif…

The funny thing is we all take it for granted that channeling is the way to get things done. But is it? Hypothesis: Channeling isn't real. The only way to get things done is to bend the pattern to your will. 1 Nynaeve is capable of creating more complex weaves without training than women who were trained. 2 Egwene can convert millions of tons of iron into cuellidar instantaneously. 3 Rand can use tDO's power because he doesn't like what's happening when he is Adam-ed. 4 Taveren get what they want. 5 Elayne can recreate Terangreal without knowing how any of them were ever made. Even the one that unweaves weaves. 6 Rand no longer needs the illusion of weaves once he…

The old thread was pretty outdated, so I decided to make a new one. What are your favorite resources for keeping track of everything? Hopefully, they are better than the tattered scrap of notebook paper with TIGRAINE=SHAIEL??? scrawled on it that I used to carry around with me in middle school.

Finally, a serious topic again. So, what do you think about it? After all those squintings she has to develop deep wrinkles, don't you think? Or with proper make-up, she can conceal it?

Hi all, I just finished reading the Wheel of Time for the first time. I started in 1992, got through the first 11 books as they came out, but then decided I needed to start over before reading the final three. I didn't get a chance to do that until this year. My wife got pregnant and I decided it was now or never! I finished AMoL a few weeks after my daughter was born. Pretty special. Really happy with how the series turned out in the end and how well BS did in completing it (I understand there are different opinions but to each their own). I'm new to the site. I figured there was a thriving online community surrounding the series but had deliberately avoided it t…

This is my first post here so forgive me if this has been discussed before. I read the books about two years ago and I am rereading them again so forgive me if I am vague. Based on the lore of WoT, it seems as if the economies of every nation have essentially stagnated, or even declined, over the thousands of years since the Breaking. Also, the monarchy remains firmly entrenched as the most prevalent form of government. I find that this is highly unlikely given the relative level of freedom experienced by large parts of the population, perhaps best represented in Andor and Tar Valon. If we compare the arc of our history to the arc of WoT history, then we should be abl…

Hi everyone, Dragonmont is about to undergo a major upgrade that will leave the site and forums offline for a couple of days, possibly a week. This upgrade will begin later this week, sometime between Nov 9-11). I don't know how long it will be offline, but I expect it to be no longer than a week. During this time we'll be upgrading every aspect of the website. New forum features, better security, and (finally!) mobile-friendly pages everywhere. If you have any questions about things, email webmaster@dragonmount.com Thanks! Jason

I'm rereading the series and I'm not yet halfway through but this has been bugging me for a while. Am I correct in thinking that Gaul develops feelings for Chiad or Bain and whoever it is returns those feelings? My memory is a little fuzzy; I think it might be Chiad because that's like the ultimate Romeo and Juliet thing since their clans are in a blood feud....and it just seems like something Robert Jordan would write. Hahah can anyone help me out?

Hey guys, I am back with another question about something Rand did that makes literally no sense to me. The other points I asked about in my other thread the people here gave some great answers for, changing my mind completely on a couple of things and at least making me realise my thoughts on the others weren't as clear cut to other people... So here goes... Rand knows that Masema is completely insane, causing absolute havoc and destruction because people aren't faithful enough to the Light given flesh and whatnot. Clearly the only person in the world who can actually control Masema is himself, but fortunately for him this control would be absolute, Masema …

I looked, and couldn't find a thread about this topic. Though I'm sure there's one here somewhere. Came across a new author who was influenced/inspired by Robert Jordan so I gave it a try. The Shadow of What Was Lost by James Islington I think the author tried to write a prologue with the emotional hook that the prologue in Eye of the World had, but it fell pretty flat for me, so don't judge the book by that one chapter. This book was just released about a month ago, so you don't have to worry about running into spoilers. I'm several chapters in and am enjoying it. Here's the blurb:
