I believe Rand's sickness is caused from him channeling incorrectly. I need to reread it, because it’s been years, but I believe in the first book Moraine was explaining to Egwene why she needed to be taught how to Channel; it might have been in New Spring. She said that women often die not long after channeling if not taught correctly. She said something like they will get sick after channeling for the first time, and with each time they channel they will get sick again sooner and sooner until they get sick at the point of grasping the source. She said when the sickness goes away completely, then they will most definitely die soon after, and nothing can be done at …

Hello all! My first post. Ok in KoD when Rand loses his hand.... why doesn't he just use balefire to get it back? He has used it in the past and wasn't too worried about the consequences, I would think that for his hand he would remove a "chosen" from the pattern and feel perfectly A-O.K. Let me know what ya'll think this has bugged me since day two of the release of KoD. Steve

A lot of emphasis is being put on Min's viewing saying that Elayne won't be harmed until she has the twins. Everyone is not going to survive at the end so I'm starting to wonder if Elayne will be among those die at TG, assuming she had the kids before that is. Just a thought. Any others?

I've been looking at mythilogical figures and their relations to our heros and I think I've found something. we all know Rand = Tyr. now Tyr looses a hand to Fenris in an attempt to capture fenris (he is a wolf who bites off Tyr's hand). Odin's son kills Fenris in the last battle in revenge for Fenris slaying Odin. Odin carries a hammer, is associated with the wild hunt etc. So perrin = Odin, Rand = Tyr, Semmy = Fenris now Fenris is slain by Odin's son, I would be more inclined to believe that at some stage, Semmy will be a threat to Rand, and Perrin will be needing to come storming in to save the day. that will be all. Comments welcome

It occurred to me that Daes Daemar is a heavily deteriorating force of most of Randland, and might be the reason many non-Borderland nations failed. Some logic (where by "==>" i mean "implies"): 1. Daes Daemar ==> intrigues stealing a lot of effort from building and consolidating a nation ==> cultural weakness. 2. Cultural weakness ==> economical weakness. 3. Cultural weakness ==> inability to adapt to changed trade and foreign relation conditions. Personal reflection #1: 2. and 3. reminds me very much of a corporation in the catastrophic execution mode of "bancrupt aristocracy", which is the stage just before the execution mode of "death". I've e…

I'm not sure what to make of her. Sometimes I think she's a dark friend and at other times she seemed genuinely compassionate (altho not often) when she found out about the Red Ajah kidnapping him and keeping him in a box. What do you guys think?

Okay, first topic post so if this is an old thread I apologize, how would Rand's progression to being the Dragon Reborn have been if Moiraine had not died. Would he have had an easier time with all this if she had been his mentor or would it have been more difficult for him to mature with Moiraine always there for him to defer to? Does Cadsuane become the mentor she is because there is a vacuum left with the absence of Moiraine? I know, who decided she is his mentor, I think of her that way. I am reading Eye again and I guess I've forgotten how much I like Moiraine and I just keep going to what could have been different for Rand if she had been around...

The Question and Arguement is: "How Many Trollics are in Shayol Ghul and the Blight ect." I Believe there are BILLIONS of Trollics in a Kind of Hybernation deep sleep in the Caves of Shayol Ghul and the Blight ect. just waiting to be awakened... I hope someone will ask Robert Jordan to clear these Questions up for us: (1) How Many Trollics there are (2) Are the Trollics able to Hybernate or be put into a kind of Hybernation for extremely long periods of Time ; and finally (3) How Long does it take to wake up the Trollics that are in Hybernation : I am certain that I read in the WoT series (do not remember which book) that there were Trollics…

In TFoH Lan said she was gone, his bond dissipated and was transferred. I can't imagine this was a result of her entering the ter'angreal door. She entered Finland before in Tear and we don't see any evidence that Lan noticed anything. So, it seems entering the doorframe was not enough. Is the doorframe melting what caused it? I can't imagine so since other methods are still available to enter Finland. So did she "die"? A lot of the characters really truly do die, but come back somehow. We know that the rules of reality are different in Finland. Perhaps that played a role? It just seems like she truly had to have died somehow. Otherwise, why the bond tran…

I was just re-reading the series for the umpteenth time, and I am a little perplexed at Faile. When they find the darkhound prints, and she finds out, her reaction is far from what it should have been. She spoke of Old Grim on the hunt, Fetches, etc, as if they were a fanciful tale. She is Saladean. She should know all too well what Myrddraal are. She should know about darkhounds, etc. Why didn't she?

Any ideas where along the borderlands the last battle will occur? I have seen a general consensus for tarwin's gap. I do not remember the last book well enough but is that where Lan is headed during his journey across the borderlands?

Most theologies would accept the notion that a GOD is a being who exists in all places and at all times. Is capable of being anywhere and anywhen. Then there's the DO. We are given to understand that he/she/it is a being with godlike powers. Antithetical to The Creator. Powerhungry. Maleficent. All around bad, nasty, icky-poo. The Anti-GOD. Then we have The Wheel. A creation of The Creator used to define all of time and space. The loom upon which the lives of all are spun out. All except the DO. He supposedly is locked away somewhere/when outside the Wheel and normal existence. He wants to break The Wheel and remake all of existence according to his…

I've started reading EotW for the umpteenth time and ran across something I had previously only skimmed over but it really piqued my curiosity this time. While on the Spray, after seeing the Tower of Ghenji, Rand and Bayle were discussing things like the bones of the strange animals and Bayle begins talking about other strange things (ref page 357, paperback). For example, "lightsticks and razorlace and heartstone. A crystal lattice covering an island, and it hums when the moon is up. A mountain hollowed into a bowl, and in its center, a silver spike a hundred spans high, and any who comes within a mile of it, dies." Again, this may have been discussed already but …

What exactly has Mat gained/will Mat gain through his new title? Ive noticed that the Deathwatch Guards have tattoos of ravens; does this mean Mat will lead the Deathwatch Guards? That would make sense as their purpose is to protect the Empress of Seanchan, which of course Tuon will be soon

I don't know if anyone has brought this up yet (if so, sorry! I'm fairly new to this site). I forgot which book it was in, but it was mentioned that though hand motions are not require to make a weave work, once the channeler has learned the weave with a certain hand motion (i.e. throwing motion to make a fireball) they can't do the weave without it. And, that it is rare for someone to be able learn a different way of doing a weave they already know. So, what are people's thought on how difficult it will be for Rand to channel his weaves with only one hand? I'm not sure how many of his weaves required that hand, but I remember some used both hands.

Okay, Perrin and Mat have figured out that when they think of one of the other Te'veren they see what (or who) that guy is doing AT THAT MOMENT. Now, to be honest, Rand is the smartest of the three so it stands to reason he figured this out also. So Rand thinks of Mat and sees him riding through some woods. Why doesn't Rand just open up a gateway to the woods he just saw Mat riding in? Same with Perrin. With traveling you don't need to know much about where you're going, just where you're coming from. So while Rand complains about Mat and Perrin being absent why doesn't he go for a visit to see what they're up to?

Well, in another thread we're having a debate about whether Cyndane is really Lanfear reincarnated. I thought this was common knowledge, and obvious. Am I failing to look deeply enough, or am I justified in being content at not having it spelled out for me?

I’ve been pondering something for awhile. If it’s already been covered, please point me to the appropriate thread and I’ll go from there. :D If not, here’s the perfect opportunity to discuss it. Let’s look at Liandrin. We all know she’s Black Ajah (BA). In one of the earlier books, we learned that she pledged to the Dark before she even went to the White Tower. If that is the case, how did it happen that she was raised? When an Accepted is raised and swears on the Oath Rod, isn’t it common to forswear all other oaths before taking the Three Oaths (or was that something only the Searchers in the WT did in their search and questioning)? Also, wh…

Those of you who understand the human body better than I do, how is that there are practically no 7-footers among the Aiels in the books? Granted we've seen only a small portion of their whole population, but I would say that soldiers (read spears) would stand a better chance at having more developed bodies than the rest. Only Baiel is without a doubt above seven feet, and a certain Shaido whom Faile meets (not Rolan, the other one Rolan saved Faile from) is described as being perhaps seven feet. Now, I am not just pulling stuff out of my head. I come from Rwanda, where men measuring 6ft7 are a common sight, I can attest to that. What's more, if you walk around for a we…

Hey guys, there are some obvious things that people fail to see or just simply ignore. One of those has been bugging me, and half of it has to do with a character we have not heard much about to my state. This is for those geneticians among you. I don't know how many times throughout the series we have been told that Cairhien (sp) people are very short. We have seen very few considered tall. Moiraine's father, by her own admission, in New Spring, I think. At a head shorter than Rand, Toram Riatin (sp) is very tall for a Cairhien. And Lord Barthanes (sp), the Darkfriend in the Great Hunt, was half a head shorter than Rand, and extremely tall for a Cairhien. Now, how…

Okay I do not know if this has been noticed or discussed on the boards before... if it has forgive me and disregard this. Here I go. Okay I am re-reading the series for a 3rd time. I am on Shadow Rising and in chapter 5 "Questioners" on page 118 Nynaeve is explaining to Aviendha what Stilling and being Burned Out are. Nynaeve says something that makes me think about KoD when Rand's hand incident occurs. She says: "Stilling is not a thing anyone would choose to study, you understand." Nynaeve continued. "It is generally accepted to be irreversible. What makes a woman able to channel cannot be replaced once it is removed, any more than a hand that has been cut off can …

1. After which book did RJ's quote about Demandred's disguised character not being introduced yet come out? Is it possible that he has since been introduced? 2. Has Rand reached his full strength in the power? If so, about when did it happen? Sorry if either of these has been answered or is unanswerable. :D

i posted this in another area as a response to something else so forgive me for repeating it. i think it deserves it's own topic. rand still has one of the choden kal and callendor. with the two most powerful sa'angreal ever to exist he, and a very powerful female channeler (aliva) might be able to strike mt doom, and the bore, with a bar of balefire, so powerful that it would take it back to a time before the age of legends, before the bore ever existed. do you think this is what rj had in mind when he created balefire? to me it seems possible. also channeling that much of the one power using callendor(no buffers), in link with aliva, might be what kills rand. seems …
