I just started listening to the EotW audio book, and I got to the part where Nynaeve tells Rand about Kari Al'Thor arriving in the Two Rivers with him as an infant, and that there was no doubt that he was her child. Which got me to thinking: How did she feed him? Nowadays, when a baby is adopted, there is the option of baby formula since the mother is rarely able to breastfeed. It would surprise me if baby formula existed in Randland. I would assume wetnurses would be the alternative solution if the mother died in childbirth or was somehow unable to breastfeed. So, what happened with Rand?

If the Dragon is constantly reborn, that would mean that at least one historical figure or present-day figure is Rand, and most likely Perrin, Mat or another character from the series as well. So... using the logic of the WoTworld, who would you place your bets on? I believe Artur Hawkwing was probably Julius Caesar and/or Alexander The Great, but I'd place bets on Mat as Alexander the Great as well. I see a definite kinship between Lan and Saladin. Both had a military destiny that influenced many of their decisions. Moiraine I could see as a reincarnation of Queen Elizabeth the First. Layers upon layers of personality, most of which are kept hidden. I…

Yes, Rand had changed his mind about destroying the world, and yes that artifact would play no role in his Final Confrontation, so yes Rand had no personal need for it. However, there were a bajillion other people in the world all fighting and dying. We see Rand try to help the Wordly struggle in ToM where he almost over-exerts himself frying a Trolloc Horde. We also see him try to help the Worldly struggle in AMoL where he gets chased away by Darkside channelers because their strength overwhelms him. In Both cases, he could have won without breaking a sweat if he'd still had the Choden-Kal. In the former case, had he died everyone would have been in deep dood…

Hi ppl I just finished The Great Hunt. Are we supposed to have guessed the identity of this bors guy in the prologue? Is he on any of the other books? I think it was Ingtar. But Im not sure. There's darkfriends everywhere (jeez...). And Im afraid to look it up on the wiki and read a spoiler.

I am looking to find a first edition for my fiance of Eye of the World. Even better if signed. I've been browsing Ebay and also Abebooks. Any ideas? He has a few hard copies, but mostly paperbacks and for his last readings he has only been doing with his Kindle. I know he would love a full nice hard copy set, but those seem pricey. Thanks!

I was talking in an IRC group about some of the things we liked and disliked about the final book and ending sequences, and I brought up why I liked the character of Moridin. But that also left me wondering... Did Moridin get a personal victory when Rand won? From what I recall (it's been a few years since I read the books), Moridin saw the cycle as a prison for him, and wanted the Shadow to win purely to escape that more than caring about who was right/wrong. Did Rand release Moridin from the cycle, or is he going to be reborn like he claims he always was to face the Dragon in every Turn?

Hi friends. Im listening to the audiobook while I drive, so I seldom miss some details in the story. Sorry if there's misspellings on people or place's names. Please keep you answers spoiler free. I just finished The Great Hunt. ¿What's Domon's role in this book? I was puzzled by his appearance in chapter 9. It almost seemed out of place. He is payed generously by some mysterious guy to carry a sealed letter over to ... I cant remember where, with a promise of more money upon arrival. But when he opens it, the letter says he is to be robbed, taken prisioner and killed. And what puzzled me most was who signed the letter.. am I remembering correctly? was it …

I am currently taking a philosophy class and I have a paper due coming up in about a week. The topic that I chose to write is about balance (good/evil, light/dark, etc.) I have long had a personal philosophy centered around the idea of balance and the fact that all things have an opposite, etc. I think, perhaps, that is one of the reasons that I have grown to love The Wheel of Time. Balance is one of the core themes of the series. In my paper that I am writing, I wanted to incorporate the Wheel of Time in my discussion (I have mentioned the series several times in class during our discussions, and though my professor said that he has not yet read the book, when I sug…

This is a theory I've been mulling over for quite awhile. It started by my trying to figure out how the Horn of Valere exactly worked. One thing about RJ's work I always really liked was that he had a very meticulous sense of how the One Power worked, and and how the various -angreal functioned. He also seemed to like just giving us enough hints to figure things out for ourselves, rather than spelling them out. (See the deaths of Galldrian and Taringail) So I figured with something that is supposed to be this important to the story, he'd know exactly what it did, how it did it, and why. After spending probably way too much time on this, this is the conclusion I came …

As I recall Sanderson was not the only option considered, and I have always felt that it is an interesting game of what if to consider how things could have gone with someone else. One author I have long thought would have been perfect for the role would be Mathew Stover. He is perhaps best known for his Caine fantasy novels and various Star Wars novels, the greatest of which was probably Traitor. Pros: I think he would have been a great fit for AMoL because he is a talented and experienced writer, who like Sanderson at the time was sufficiently small time that it would be a boon to his career, not a distraction. He had written fantasy novels before, and …

Hello - Im a big fan of Brandon Sanderson. Im very interested in reading his WOT books, but I havent read all the WOT (Jordan) books. Ive only read the first 4. If I skip the others (to be honest Im not that interested in reading them) and go straight to the Sanderson books, will I be completely lost? I know all the main characters and major events in the first 4 books, but thats it. I know I should just read them all, but Im mainly interested in them because of Sanderson. Thanks.

I have searched and been unable to find whether there is an Old Tongue phrase for Wolfbrother or one that the Aiel have used when referring to them. The closest I could come up with on my own was Shae'din for Dogbrother. I couldn't find Old Tongue words for wolf or wild (to add to the word for dog for wild dog brother). Just a matter of curiosity.

I am honestly stuck... I want to try a new series but how can i after what i just went through? The emotional roller coaster WoT took me on has left my stomach in knots of joy and fatigue. I invested too much! How can i put myself out there now when i know after 2 or 14 books the journey will end and i will be back to reality? I realize i just finished the series, i posted on the introduction page of the forms about it, but man i am still reeling from the mind blow! Any suggestions of what to start?

Hello Everyone! I found TWoT about 3 years ago and read the first ten books straight through. That of coarse left me a little burnt out and I never got back to this series. I really would love to finish the series, but I don't want to have to reread all ten books again. I believe that I remember most of the important plot points but I was hoping to find a detailed summary of each book. Even if all in total it equaled a full novel it would be easier to make happen then rereading 10 books. Something similar to what http://www.encyclopaedia-wot.org/ has going on with their chapter summaries. Is this the place to refresh myself or is there something better?

I got this silly notion in my head that a Pink Ajah would have been a great addition to Tar Valon. Every Ajah had practical functions but one thing they forgot was to have fun. I was thinking a Pink Ajah with the function of discovering ways to use the One Power for entertainment. I mean some of the Ter'angreal found had entertainment functions. An Ajah that existed solely for entertaining people using all the senses. Entertainment is also a subtle tool to control people. Just like how China used the theater to control the masses, entertainment can redirect anger, incite a rebellion, awaken people to realities or to misinformation. Other countries that used enter…

Hello everyone, Been awhile since I've been here and even longer since I posted anything. While reading the Companion, a thought occurred to me regarding an issue that wasn't addressed. I also did a search of the forums and couldn't find it so I'm going to pose a question related to those Ashaman and Aes Sedai who were turned and survived the Last Battle. When Rand resealed the bore, the Dark one's influence was cut off from the world. That being the case, what happens to the "Turned" who were enslaved ? Wouldn't the enslavement end upon the re-sealing? Wouldn't they be "returned" automatically? Aditionally, I have some problems with the way the companion doe…

Hi guys. I have been waiting for a few days to see if anyone would post about this here, but since no one has, I guess I have to do it. There have been enough Taimandred and Asmodean posts here over the years that I can't imagine it's of no interest to anyone. Taimandred killed Asmodean. As of LOC, anyway. Then RJ changed his mind. There are more bits from the notes later in the thread, if you have the patience to read through it. And Brandon has chimed in at reddit.

Why nobody is speaking about that? What about the crazy One Power levels that was published by someone? Cadsuane stronger than Egwene? Annoura not strong enough to Travel? Mesanna stronger than Nynaeve? Semirhage as strong as Lanfear? Nynaeve stronger than just one female Forsaken - Moghedien, when Jordan told us that she is in the middle of the female Forsakens? Elayne stronger than Viendre, when there is a quote by herself that Viendre is stronger? Theodrin three levels above Faolain (this is the one that I could accept, but I don't feel it right)? The male are not such a surprise, may be because there is not so much abut their power in the books. But Rahvin as stro…

I know Sanderson's writing's been criticized to death but I haven't yet seen anyone on any forum mention how he CONSTANTLY uses the words "suspect" and "certain". It's always "You are certain of this?", "I suspect that it is so" etc. instead of "Are you sure?" and "I expect".... It irritates me - a lot. There are situations where these words work better but he uses them in every single situation, obsessively. He probably does it to make the characters sound sophisticated; his dialogue is for the most part antiseptic and formal.

My wife was never a big fantasy reader, but since we got an Audible membership, she's been dipping more into fantasy. She read my favorite fantasy book, Octavia Butler's Wild Seed, and loved it. She read the first three volumes of A Song of Ice & Fire, all of Joe Abercrombie's new series (which we jokingly call Half A--) and the Lies of Locke Lamora. Since we started dating fourteen years ago, she's had zero interest in the Wheel of Time. Probably because she's watched me agonize over the Wheel of Time, swear off it, go back to it, yell at Brandon Sanderson for his flat line-level prose and yell at Robert Jordan for his meandering plotlines and obvious spanking f…

I have never seen this theory mentioned elsewhere, so I'm posting a new topic on it. I'm new to the community so I apologize if this was discussed before. One thing that is interesting about AMoL is the relationship between lanfear and moridin. At the beginning of the book, moridin has her mindtrap but that is never mentioned again (as far as I could tell). That raises questions, such as: Is moridin still using her mindtrap at the end of the book in SG? If so, what happens to her if moridin gets destroyed? If he is using her mindtrap, that would certainly explain Lanfear's behavior in the whole book. In a way, she would have to prevent any damage to him if she wanted t…

Hi all, WoT is a massive series and there's lots and lots of stories going on at the same time. I was wondering how people here answer the question "Oh, what's that book about?" I've been asked the question by friends and sometimes by random people on the train. I've never been able to give a satisfying answer, something along the lines of "good vs evil, Creator vs Dark One something something something" What do you guys do? :)

Does anyone know where to find a list of the foods mentions in Wheel Of Time? I'm creating a mod for minecraft 1.7.10 based on the books, and I was trying to remember all the foods mentioned, but its difficult. All I can really remember is Ice Peppers, stew and motai. Here is a link to the mod if anyone plays minecraft. http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/wip-mods/2575084-wip-wheel-of-time-1-7-10

So both from in-book musings ont he game of Sha'Rah and out of book interviews with Jordan we can sfely conclude that had Rad fallen, someone else would have taken over his role as the general of the Light However, the way n which Rand sealed the Bore in AmoL required some pretty specific things to have previously happened, and we can be safely sure almost all to all of the circumstances were things Jordan had intended. So, had rand died in, say, Knife of Dreams, and Egwene had become The Dragon, how would she have been able to seal the bore? Also, are there ever Dark Ages in which the previous incarnation of the Dragon had failed and no one following after ha…

The Choden Kal is much more stronger than Callandor AND it doesn't have a flaw. It would have been an invaluable help on Tarmon Gaidon. Why the heck did Rand destroy it? With it, he could just have gone to the Blight and wiped out all the Trollocs there by himself. Heck, he could have destroyed the seals and then once the Dark One got free, he could have challenged him to a one on one. What gives? Another question, why did the female Choden Kal get destroyed? Was it flawed?

At the end of the second book, The Great Hunt, Loial is reading a book entitled To Sail Beyond the Sunset. This is the title of a book by Robert A. Heinlein. Has this been discussed before? If so, can you post a link so I can find it. Thanks, Marvin
