I’m working my way through the final few books of the series, my second read through, and a question occurred to me. I haven’t reread the series enough to know off hand, but is it mentioned that seanchan ogier have steddings and the same longing for them as the ones in randland? It struck me this time around when reading that ogier within the seanchan structure seem very different than what we know about their core nature in randland. The ogier we see within seanchan culture are engaged and prevalent in society, at least within the military, and come across to me as stoic soldiers. I don’t notice any portrayal of what I perceive as the distinctive, characteristic traits t…

A Stedding cuts someone from the one power, effectively working as a null field for them. However does this effect include any weaves that have already been set on a person, for instance Compulsion? Would someone under the effect of that power then become immune to it in a Stedding, either temporarily while inside it, or maybe even permanently?

I've read these books a million times and noticed something I never had before....When Moiraine heals Tam Rand get goosebumps. This must be the reaction that male channelers get when a woman channels. I thought it was interesting that Jordan put that in within the first few chapters, he really was a master at writing.

Possible Graphic Warning!! I'm on another re-read of many and when I finished The Great Hunt. I began to think of ways the Seanchan may mark/brand a Aes Sedai as a damane to make them stand out? Throughout all the books, it could be said that the Seanchan are very proud to leash an Aes Sedai but I wonder what it would look like if that pride carried as far as marking or branding them in some fashion. My first thought was a brand on the forehead (similar to a character from the Stormlight series; if you know, you know) of the symbol of the Aes Sedai or an outline of serpent biting its own tail. Then my thoughts got a little darker, what if the Great Serpent Ring …

Verin gets back with the girls at the beginning of book 3 and she gives the Horn of Valere to Siuan. But she hid from everyone what she brought back so it would have been a well guarded secret. But what did she tell the Black Ajah was in the bag???

Re- reading The Great Hunt (doesn't matter how many times). It's very clear after re-reading the series, that Lanfear (as Selene) used Compulsion on Rand. Or at least tried to. The sexy scene where she convinced Rand to inspect the fire that was Fain and his darkfriends/trollocs with Loial. Rand internally describes the chill down his spine which he attributed to Selenes laugh, and throughout that scene credits Selene's looks and legs in the moonlight as what makes his mind so cloudy and heavily influenced. We later learn that this "chill" around women who can channel is not mere coincidence. Rand's behavior while in the void (when he re-cap…

I’m re-reading the series for the umpteenth time and I’m on book 4. The Shadow Rising Does anyone know what the Snakes meant when they told Mat “To die and live again, and live once more a part of what was!”…? I get the “die and live again” part. Either rhuidean or caemlyn. But the “live once more a part of what was!” is confusing me. I can’t remember anything in any of the books that would fit. I must be forgetting something. Can someone remind me?

R. Jordan isn't known for writing romances well. But how bad it was or was it bad for you at all? Let's stay with main characters only and sort them in ranking. Also which romances were good, which bad and which in between? My take on it: GOOD 1. Min-Rand; only one well done romance probably. I would sacrifice quartople in second for it. Min character is reduced to viewings only in TW show now however, no wit no independence, so I am quite afraid. 2. Nyn-Lan; I wrote that there is only one well done romance. It is because we don't get to see intimate moments between Nyn and Lan. It is probably good if we look at other romances. I feel that th…

Hello all, Soo, this is worth the read. So much; that I'd like to be challenged on my fan theory because I truthly believe it's a fact more than a theory for the books. I made a Facebook post to a page about it, I had so many people in awe and agree with me that I needed to post it here: For I feel you are the creme of the crop to challenge this. (Also, audiobook listener, so don't hate my spelling) Padan Fain is, without a doubt Ta'veran. Now before your mind travels to the end of MoL and the he was the DO replacement (which could be how it was to end) I'm focusing on Robert's writing, and less of Sandersons last 3 books We…

along with the (Roman) Catholic Church – and while it's true that Jordan used everything from everything (see FAQ, interviews) he ever read (e. g. if you read Hemingway's books you will see many, many things which Jordan deemed worthy to use in his own books), the biggest motifs (I think) came from Faulkner (as inspirations, naturally). From the character of Rand, through (the development of) the whole story, through 'small' things like the agelessness of Aes Sedai, the cloaks of the Warders, or sometimes Jordan did quite a deed, like condensing As I Lay Dying (the whole novel!) into two chapters in TSR (chapter 25 and 26) with a few twists, and so many things come f…

Admittedly I’m not to the end yet, but it strikes me as I reread that so many fans are opposed to BS and his writing of the final 3 books. As I said, I haven’t completed my first reread yet, but I have to say, even if fans hate me for it, I think BS is doing a fine job with the task he’s given. What causes the opposition within so many fans about BS and his writing/conclusion to the series?

I’ve just started with book 3, so please avoid spoilers. The thing I don’t understand is: the Wheel keeps turning and Ages repeat themselves over and over. I assume each Age the Dragon Reborn fights the Dark One, right? Does the DR defeat the Dark One each time or vice versa? And why is the current Age special? I keep reading that if Rand fails defeating the Dark One, the Dark One will have won for good and all eternity will be cast in darkness. Is that so? Why? Also, Rand is the reincarnation of Lews Therin. But in Book 2 when crossing through the portal stone to Falme, Rand learnt that he has lived thousands of lives. Or did he not live those lives and these were m…

In the new Origins, Brandon Sanderson explains Nakomi's backstory. Space for those who don't wish to be spoiled: Spoiler It was Brandon's own idea, and intended to be the back story of the mysterious woman outside Shayol Ghul, which RJ had written in with no explanation. In short, she is Jenn Aiel, and the Creator's avatar, as Shaidar Haran is the Dark One's. This is part of the ongoing purpose of the Jenn. Discuss....

Hey guys I am on a reread, it is probably my twentieth read through but my first in a few years. I have finished book six and on book seven, cadsuane has just appeared for the first time and got a couple of queries. After reading book 6 literally everything feels like taim is demanded, I know he isn't but does anyone else think that was the original plan and it may have been changed because fans guessed? Also, just a few chapters of cadsuane is enough to irritate me, does anyone like this character? She irritated me every time I read the series Cheers

So I haven't seen anybody theorize this so I was curious what others though. I have come to believe that that Dark One never wanted to win in the first place. I feel like many of the decisions made were always suboptimal towards that purpose. Like if the whole series was a chess game, the Dark One purposefully doesn't take the king, or gives up his own pawns telling them to take the knights but never the king. He always ACTS like he wants to win and of course comes insanely close to it. But if other turning of the wheels are so similar, the Dark One should be wise and experienced enough to counter anything ignorant humans can come up with. Or even the main-character luck …

As a long time reader of the books, there is one plot point that has bothered me for years and years. Brandon's recent spoiler discussion for the 10-year anniversary of Memory of Light, brought it to the forefront of my mind again and I thought I would see if the larger community had an answer. It is something I plan to ask Brandon himself if I ever get the chance. When Aviendha goes to Rhuidean and through the columns a second time, she sees the future destruction of the Aiel. Essentially, the story is that the Seanchan prove to be too powerful, and they relentlessly pursue channelers across the continent and collar or kill just about all of them. What I can'…

I have found myself recently wondering if the wheel chose not to create 1 dragon reborn, but instead create 3 aspects of the last dragon in order to win the final battle? It is clear that at the final battle, the way it plays out, the 3 boys have equally important roles. Yes Rand fights the battle with the dark lord, but, without Mat leading the battle on the physical plane and Perrin leading the fight in the Tel'aran'rhiod the battle would probably have been lost altogether. Therefore I wonder did the pattern effectively create 3 aspects of the dragon reborn. Rand the main splinter, consisting of the memories of Lewis, his spirit, of course his …

I am a Dungeon Master and recently I have talked to some players about WoT and they have expressed interest about a DnD game loosely based on the WoT books. As we have discussed it, it wouldn’t have a ton of plot points of the books but it would be around the era of the books and contain the same concepts like the White Tower, Saidar and Saidin, White cloak, etc. I am looking for any advice about what to include in terms of plot points. Would love to discuss!

So there is a section (I will find it and post it when I get home) in the Great Hunt where Rand hears a voice call him "al' Thor". I know we hear Lews Therin more later in the books as Rands psyche begins to integrate the memories and personality of Lews Therin but to me this is the first example I have seen of Lews Therin talking to Rand - Rand of course just sees this as an intrusive thought but the words are written in italics and seem to come from elsewhere. Ill post the full text later. Does anyone else think that the Lews Therin Voice comes much earlier than it first seems in the series?

I am re reading the entire series again, and having reached LOC have either never realised, or forgotten, how much page space is wasted on RJ reminding us of everything that has happened to each character as you come to them. Generally through them remembering. For instance I have just gone through the scene of Mat dancing in the inn, which is a nice little scene, made far to long as he recalls the scar round his neck, the holes in his memory etc. This seems to be the case for each major character so far, and seems more pronounced in LOC then any of the prior books. Trying to remember if RJ keeps this up in future books, and wondering how many pages would be …

Hi I’m a HUGE fan of the books series. I’ve probably listened to the entire series 5 times by now, but I’ve never read it so I have no idea what the names even look like so please forgive me for that. So to the point, I have a baby girl due in January 2024 and originally I wanted to name her “Moiraine” but I’m a terrible speller in general we can’t agree on the spelling. So I am thinking about other female character names and I can’t seem to remember the name of Rand’s kids in the alternate future where the “I-eel” go to war with the “empire.” I also can’t remember which book that scene is in; if anyone can jog my memory much appreciate! Also just have to say I LOAT…

What is making Rand and the other male channelers, as well as the damane, so sick towards the end? I don’t remember this being explained for sure but I might have forgotten. I was thinking maybe the use of the bowl of the winds and/or the unraveling of elaynes gateway weave might explain the anomaly in proximity to ebou dar, and possibly the presence of callandor in the battle sequence. But it seems unlikely that it happened by coincidence, relatively simultaneously, due to different causes. Does this get explained later and I missed it my first time around?

It’s clear that channeling the OP increases the life span significantly. It’s also clear that the current system followed by the Aes Sedai has decreased their lifespan, in many cases by hundreds of years, compared to channelers who are not AS. The only obvious difference appears to be that the Aes Sedai of “today” are bound by the 3 oaths and/or the oath rod. Is this phenomenon ever explained or are there any theories out there that might explain it? Also, when an AS such as Cadsuane retires, are they released from the oaths?

hey guys my name is saket i am currently on book 3. I had a few questions. we finally have a mat pov and throughout the previous books I percieved mat as stupid, someone who does not know when to shut up and incredibly selfish and annoying (sorry if you like him) but in this book suddenly he is calculative and manipulative and measuring his chances which i find so antithetical to prev books he has always just opening his mouth when he should shut up and just getting himself and others into worst possible situations through entirely his own fault, so this change in book 3 is so different and out of the blue for me. can someone explain it if i am missing somethin…

One thing that is never shown in the WOT books (as far as I am aware) is how the Aiels past being made public impacts the Tuatha'an. That sudden understanding of where they came from, that the Song they seek was possibly the old harvest songs, something that will never be found again because the Nym are no more. I wonder how that understanding that they broke from their purpose in almost as big a way as the Aiel did will affect the culture. They stuck to the way of the leaf but walked away from their promises to the Aes Sedai. The Aiel broke from the way of the leaf but, you could argue, the Jenn Aiel would never have reached Rhuidean without them shepherding them, …
