  1. If Robert Jordan had lived to write his Infinity of Heaven series, as well as the Outriggers and Prequels, he still would have been haunted with questions regarding the ending of A Memory of Light, most notably the body swap and the meaning of the pipe scene. My question is simple, do you think RJ would have given out enough hints to explain the ending, if not just simply explain what happened, or would he have RAFO'd those questions till the day he died?

Or at least, the Warder bond is a form of the connection that the Jenn Aiel had to The Dragon. That is what Rand saw in Rhuidean. The Jenn were pledged, and so tough that they could take a lot of physical violence and simply ask you why you were hitting them. Their descendants who survived into the fourth age were tougher, and had much more endurance than normal humans. They still find themselves pledged to the Dragon after hundreds of years. I'd say that the Warder bond that the White and Black towers dabbled in are a pale, incomplete version of the bond those first Aiel had.

I was curious if the heroes of the horn actually rode any horses when they came back? maybe that's why bella had to die before the horn was blown? like was she bound to the horn? I didn't understand why bella who has been there since the begining had to die, maybe she is a horse hero reborn? lol

Did anyone else mourn their lack of a catch up/truimph moment? Siuan devolved from a determined and strong willed woman to irritated, flirty handmaid as the series went along but really, she and Morriane had as much hand in the victory of light as anyone. But yeah, I would have loved a brief scene.

  5. Started by Jak 0' the Shadows,

Hello Fellow WoT nerds! I have the privilege of owning almost the whole Wheel of Time series (I am missing The Shadow Rising but I have New Spring). But something has happened while reading these treasures that has me in need of aid. I was recently rereading EOTW when something jumped out at me. It occurred in the prologue, Dragonmount, when the Betrayer of Hope appears. That is it. How was he there? The Betrayer of Hope is Ishamael, but he was trapped when Lews Therin found the Forsaken at Shayol Ghul. Remember, Lews Therin became mad after he patched the bore, the taint was the DO's counterstroke. How could Ishamael have been there if he was imprisoned? I might ju…

What happened to Dobraine? He was a major figure in Rand's ascent, essentially ruling Cairhien and Andor as steward. Dobraine and Bashere were Rand's two strongest/most influential (both politically and militarily with regard to advancing his campaign). I cannot remember a mention of Dobraine after Rand leaves Arad Doman. After the attempted assassination by the Darkfriends and almost 2 years of dedicated service, I think he should have at least had an ending written into AMOL.

  7. Started by Jak 0' the Shadows,

When Rand is first described, his hair is referred to as having a reddish tinge with no mention of the primary color. Later in 'The Eye of the World,' when Elaida inspects him in the court of Andor, she only talks of the 'red in his hair.' After just these to go on in the first book, I started picturing Rand as having dark-brown hair with a reddish tinge near the tips. This was backed by the covers of the first three books, in these Rand is depicted with brownish hair. Somewhere along the line, it transitions in the text, and in the artwork to red-gold. This has not affected my picturing but I wonder what other people's take on it is. For my part, I think people overdue e…

  8. Hello everyone, Theother night while I was walking my dog I began to muse on the holes in the theory that everything in the WOT has happened before..(eg: how much the topography of the world changed during the breaking. What , we're supposed have another breaking changing the face of the world to match what it was during the AOl, but beingso far in the past that not even myths survive?) and it started me thinking about the Warders...As you will remember,I think it was Semirhage who mused that the warders were something new..Warders didn't exist during the AOl. For me,that has always seemed to be a very large hole in the entire premise of the WOT...something that was…

  9. what does this quote actually mean? My first read through the series I of course read it but never stopped to really work through what it really meant. What is the deeper meaning to it?

  10. Started by Lavaliar,

So, I am almost finished TGH. In my opinion, it is an even better novel than EOTW. I've reached a point where Jordan has dropped the faux English "stock fantasy writing style" prose. I am reading a strong American voice and I like it. From what I understand, that voice becomes increasingly Southern-American as the series progresses and I am looking forward to that. As with any author, there will be aspects of the writing that annoy certain readers. Compared to most fantasy I have read, Jordan is almost entirely free of these annoyances. His prose is head and shoulders above the majority, easily classed with Tolkien and Peake (although not as experimental or overtly li…

Greetings friends, colleagues, fellow fans, lurkers, RPers, Biffins, Boffins and Sackville-Bagginses... Wait, no... That's a different speech entirely. As you may or may not know, each year Dragonmount holds a very special awards ceremony all of it's own. They are called The Empys, and they give each and every one of you the chance to reward other members and groups in this little community of ours for their activity throughout the year here at DM, by nominating and voting for them in a variety of categories (twenty-seven, to be precise). They are all heroes in their own right with what they add to our enjoyment of this site... And that is why our theme for the whole …

  12. Started by Ahlyis,

Has anyone else noticed Jordan's penchant for having his heroes comment about heroes in stories? I'm re-reading the series right now and am up to Path of Daggers. I won't swear it showed in the first couple of books, but I've been noticing at least once per book Jordan having one of the characters complain about something and compare it to what happens to "heroes in stories". For example, the following passage can be found on page 153 of the hardcover Path of Daggers: "Awkwardly they turned, hobbling and stumbling and groaning. It seemed quite ludicrous; heroes in stories never got hurt so they could barely stand. ... Gingerly the three of them sat down to wait.…

Not long after it was painted, either ToR or Greg Manchess had posted a very high resolution version of the Lord of Chaos ebook panorama. But looking back through google tonight, I can't find it anywhere. The largest avaliable tops out at 1600 by 5xx. Does anyone know where I might be able to find the full rez version, or perhaps does someone have it stored away like I should have? Thanks, (pertainint article) http://www.tor.com/blogs/2010/03/lord-of-chaos-ebook-cover-by-greg-manchess

We've always loved Bela the shaggy old mare, but what do we know of her background? Did she accompany Tam, baby Rand, and Kari Al'Thor back to the Two Rivers from Tam's time as second in command of the Illian Companions as perhaps a trophy captured from warring with Tear, or was she taken perhaps later during the Aiel War? Tairen Bloodstock is rivaled only by Domani, and if we apply visual appeal she might have been of very fine stock but not much to look at so she might have been allowed to be retained by a young officer or given to him for killing Laman. Bela is clearly more than she appears to be from the beginning, I think that Rand's taking away her weariness…

  15. I could have missed it, but I do not remember anything that explained the change. Mat was still alive at the end, and the last time I checked the only time someone other than the original sounder may sound the horn, and it will work, is if the original sounder were dead. Was it some connection between Mat and Olver? Was this just an unexplained rewrite? Or was there something in the series that explained how Olver could sound it with Mat still alive?

Brand new to this forum so please forgive if this rehashes much -- I don't think it will tho since my searches have turned up nothing. This all was sparked by some questions I had related to the BUT thread, section 2.1. Three issues there are relevant (tho the questions I had started from cover more): Is Moghedien unable to enter TAR while leashed in Salidar? Why are there no domesticated animals in TAR? Why is entering TAR in the flesh evil? TLDR? Skip to the bold sentences for the punch lines. The first point above was pretty much confirmed by Maria Simons -- search on Theoryland for "a'dam" and you'll find her expressing some certainty about this, tho she can't fi…

Hi. I am new to Dragonmount and am excited to share ideas, questions and have fun with others who aren't just fans of WOT but FANATICAL ones :) I am unsure if this question has ever been asked before but here it goes. Does anyone else feel like the Seanchan got a cushy deal in the Last Battle ? It seemed to me in reading and re-reading "A Memory of Light" that they were barely involved in the battles and suffered the least number of casualties compared to Egwene et al. There were no POV accounts from Tylie or Karede. I read a couple scenes where their damane were active and a single time where their calvary was involved in helping Egwene's forces escape the Tr…

  20. I have a long drive to work each day (45-50 minutes each way... though, that's probably not long for some who live in big cities like NY, Houston or LA.) So, I've found listening to audiobooks a good way to pass the time on the road. The local libraries here in Connecticut are inter-connected, so if my town library doesn't have a copy of the Lord of Chaos audiobook, they can have one delivered from another town library that does. But, when I found out the series was finally finished early this year and I was looking for something new to "listen" to on my commute, I went back to the Wheel of Time. I found the two narrators to be excellent - Michael Kramer and Kate Re…

I am curious what everyone thinks will become of the Sharans and the Shaido. They are not part of the Dragon's peace so I would think anyone could go fight them or they could attack a nation if they wanted to. Though seeing how they do not know of the Dragon's Peace I am guessing if they attacked anyone every nation would rise up against them to defend the nation that was attacked. The Shaido has pretty much started a blood feud with every Aiel clan not to mention all the wetlander hostages they still hold. The Sharan sided with the DO and fought alongside shadowspawn so will the nations ignore that and leave them alone or go to finish them off?

  22. Hello, everyone. It's been a while since I've posted (life, career, you know. . .IRL) but I wanted to share two things with you. I've seen the stuff on FB that's been posted regarding WoT being eligible for the Hugos. I've also seen some of the counter-arguments. People are entitled to their own opinion, of course, but I felt the need to step out and say "wait just a damn minute". The WoT has been a positive part of my life, and I was fortunate to meet RJ before he passed. I've also met BS & Harriet a couple of times, so I wanted to defend my friends. I've posted an essay on my website here. As a writer, I'll pay homage to those who have come before me. I try …

Anybody think were going to see Valen Luca and his circus in the last book? My dream is that after the last battle, he sees Nynaeve and Lan is like 10 steps away. Luca says something dumb and Lan comes over stabs him. Repeatedly. Enough so, that there is no possible way she can heal him. Ever.

  26. Where do you think this fleet with Red Sails is headed. Could we be looking at battle between the forces of the Return and the pretender from the Seanchan homeland. Where would such a battle take place, EbuDar? Is this the occurance that will finally tip the Return over to supporting Rand and the LightSiders.

I always thought that since the White Ajah was focused on logic, they would come to the conclusion that more Warders meant better protection and sometimes, more outright power. Because of this, I was always looking for someone in the White to bond more than one, or for the White Ajah to allow its members to bond multiple Warders. Does anyone else agree? Any thoughts?

Looking for some guidance on getting some Aiel spears made. I've been in martial arts for several years and at one tournament I was at, one of the competitors was using a Klingon Bat'leth for his weapon form. I'm not a Trekkie, but I thought that was way cool and wanted to do something similar. I initially thought of Perrin's ax, but then decided on Aiel spears instead - then I could incorporate kicks in my form as well as unique weapons/shield/garb. Seems to go well with the training I've been doing. I've done some internet searching and found different styles of spear blades, shields and cadin'sor. Spear shafts have been described as anywhere from two to four f…

  30. So I have been reading WoT for 15+ years, and have decided to spice it up a little, and build my own character listing. I have had no feedback on this so far from anyone and wanted to ask for some from you all. I think I have found a way to let everyone look at it, but I am not sure. I have uploaded it to google drive, and I am not sure how it works for someone else looking at it. I believe you have to download it, and it will open. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1oVJUT1Q5IpOEpRZUtla2FFcDg/edit?usp=sharing I am going to do multiple readings, and add categories as I go. What I have I felt was simple enough to start, I will be adding more each time I read through…
