Dun dun dun dun! NFL Football season is here. I don't know about you, but I'm a huge football fan. (Sorry overseas people, I mean American Football, not "soccer") If you follow my personal twitter account ([twitter]jasondenzel[/twitter]), you may know I'm a huge San Francisco 49er fan. I was talking smack on twitter the other day when I jokingly told another WoT fan that Colin Kaepernick was the NFL's version of the Dragon Reborn: Same height, same weight, muscular, mixed parentage, arm tattoos, incredibly talented beyond most QB's (including many star veterans), and has had a meteoric rise to fame. If that's the case, I'd suggest that Russell Wilson is Moridin.…

The end of the last book says there are no endings and will *never* be endings to the wheel of time. I hope I do not come across as dense, but this kind of makes me wonder that if the Dark One wins that his win will not matter once the wheel resets itself. Am I correct in this interpretation? I hope I am not overthinking this... Anyone want to chime in on this?

  7. Hi. I originally started reading WoT when I was just a little lad, and now, 12 years later, I am returning to the series. Starting at Eye of the World I'm planning to buy all 14 books and complete the series. Tbh I have not read any books since I quit reading WoT all those years ago, and I had no idea how hard the online books stores were to use. So I'm begging you guys, to please help me through my OCD here. I want to buy all the books for my collection. I bought the EotW in the limited slipcase version, only to find out that it was the only book released. I want to buy all the books in hardback, and matching. I think the Orbit one looks really nice. Could so…

Why? I've been getting more and more aggravated by this and I just had to vent somewhere. (well, I've already vented but it wasn't enough) What's the point of this character? I'll paste what I wrote on another thread here. "I truly don't get what RJ wants from me with regards to her. I can't help but respect her for being a successful Black Ajah head for years and years, and from standing up to the Aiel's torture for as long as she did, not to mention being able to formulate a functional escape plan despite being magically compelled to be a person's devout slave. She is the UNDERDOG here, so I honestly don't know if I'm meant to enjoy watching her suffer. He c…

Hello, finally finished last book and am ready to start posting on this forum. (Noted no spoilers on this particular part of forum). I have a question about Tar Valon. I've struggled with my imagining of the white tower since it's first mention. I often will have trouble within fantasy genre, picturing battles, castles, cities, forts, towers. And I will often look them up for pictures to get a general idea of what they are talking about. However I have struggled to picture Tar Valon so much! I was wondering if anyone would be able to describe exactly it looks like. I hear white tower and think of something along the lines of the Orthanc (Tower of Isenguard) from t…

  11. Over the years there have been a lot of discussions about which WOT book in the entire series is the best, but which of Sanderson's contributions did you like best?

  13. Am I the only one? I don't understand the criticism she gets and think it says more about the person making the criticism than anything else. Her posts are funny, informative and sometimes touching. I don't see anything bad in these posts. (At least she is an honest person, I mean it really interesting to see a formerly WoT mod - on another board - badmouthing the whole saga, or read a 'famous' blogger's constantly slanting on WoT on every possible fantasy forum.)

Does anyone know if the Horn was used in the War of Power/AoL? It was placed in the Eye with the Dragon Banner, which means it was around at the end of the Age at least. Is it an intricate part of the Pattern since the Heroes are bound to it? Or is it a ter'angreal? The Horn is something I've not seen much on in the books, just a lot of theories on it around the forums/theoryland.

Only a short one this week. Another demonstration of how well minor characters were written in the wheel of time (imo). They pop up a handful of times and demonstrate more clearly than most the chaos of the last battle. These are the first Tuatha'an we meet, and we meet them very early on. A long time before we meet many of the main characters, and they keep popping back up. The Eye of the World sets them up as a peaceful people, brave enough to accept strangers into their camp and offer them help and kindness. We're introduced to Raen & Ila who seem nice enough people. But it's in the Shadow Rising that they gain real depth. We're given a great parallel bet…

  17. I read the Wheel of Time series for the first time when I was about 13 or 14. I've started reading them again now that I'm 18, and I have to say that the characters really do look a lot different to a child than they do to someone who's (supposedly) a grown up. A few examples: I really didn't like Moiraine when I read the books the first time because she seemed really manipulative. While she redeemed herself killing Lanfear, I still didn't like her that much. The second time around I warmed up to her quickly, because her motivations are a lot more understandable than they were the first time. She's spent a large chunk of her life hunting Rand, planning to protect and …

I am currently on the great hunt on my second run through the series, and a thought occurred to me. The a'dam allows sul'dam to control aes sedai, which often involves using the power as a weapon. However, as I remember, the oath rod makes the oathes binding to the point at which the aes sedai who swears them is physically unable to break them. That being said, it would seem that this inabilty to break the oath not to use the power as a weapon would still be in place on the damane. The only explanation I can come up with are that with the sul'dam controlling the aes sedai, it somehow counts as using it to protect ones life. However, it's been a while since I've read …

  19. Hello, long time lurker and loving it, thought I'd share a theory of mine pertaining to the cyclical nature of the wheel and why I think that the cycle can, and will be broken without freeing the DO and dooming the world to his dubious mercy. In my opinion the whole concept of a cyclical time like the WoT is an allegory for the education of man by God or in Randland the Creator. Following creation the DO's prison is intact and even though his influence is felt as an ethereal presence inciting the choice of evil in the world he cannot touch the world directly, he cannot speak to humans or effect events within the Pattern. as humanity grows in sophistication and develop…

A foxhead copy (which were inferior to the original) was used to aid in bringing down Demandred. but earlier in the series Mat is killed by Saidin while wearing his original (and brought back by the effects of balefire) Is this a plot hole or is there and explanation?

  21. In Andor, its women first regardless of age. But in Cairhein, I guess it should go to the eldest which is clearly Galad from the Damodreds first marriage. So, what gives, how does Elayne have a better claim? Galad isn't a bastard and normally the first marriage has precedence over the second. Its kind of an illogical moment just because its more convenient to make it part of Elaynes story and because Galads story is about something else. So, RJ sort of acts like Cairhein has the same female only rules as Andor?

I mean I thought it was strange that nobody really made the connection between the Seanchan (Raken/To-raken) apart from once when Rand sees a painter put wings on his flag. So, do you think this creature was around during the Age of Legends and thats where the image is taken from? With the raken/toraken being related to it? Or is it just simply the artist of Lews Therins flag took the wings off for artistic reasons (magic makes it fly not wings?) off a raken which he used as a point of reference?

  23. This week isn't so much a long essay as an answer to a question many may find interesting. It was a long standing question in the WoT. We knew Mesaana was in the White Tower posing as an Aes Sedai, but who? In ToM, it is revealed that she was posing as Danelle of the Brown Ajah. Many people had already guessed correctly prior to the revelation, but many people were also asking: Who on earth is Danelle, and how did people have any idea? Here is a compilation of the clues that led to people to believe Mesaana was Danelle. The first is physical appearances: Mesaana is described in the BWB as " a woman of average height and appearance...hard heade…

This Is a thread for the Discussion of what the post Tarmon Gai'don world might be like and what a squeal series would theoretically be about. I'll begin with the my own collection of ideas The Raven War Saga. Aviendha's actions to prevent her vision of the future, the destruction of the Aiel and the conquest of world by the Seanchan now known as the Raven Empire, didn't prevent that war just delayed it and insured that Westlands would fight on better term. Aviendha shares her vision of the future with the Aes Sadi and the Asha'man. And they all come to the conclusion that the Seanchan can not be trusted to abide by the Dragon's Peace. Once the situation in the…

Hi! Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I could find WOT bumper stickers? Years ago, I found one I liked on Cafe Press, but I can't find any on that website anymore. I have spent a lot of time Googling, and I was only able to find decals on taverentees.com. They look good, but I'd love to find bumper stickers. Any suggestions would be lovely! Thanks!

  26. Hello long time lurker and loving it. My thought is this. The Dragon is The Chosen One, he is the answer to the incursion from the DO, he is whatever the Pattern needs him to be. In the AoL LTT sealed the Bore, albeit imperfectly, but he did not have the almost God-like powers that Rand displayed at the end of the series. Because he didn't need it! he had the advanced powers of the AoL to help him. And the reason for the War of Power in the first place was arrogance and a thirst for power. Had the Pattern produced a full blown Dragon with Rand powers, the Breaking would not have happened and the arrogance and greed would have continued. in this Age the people are inf…

  27. So on my most recent read through i have begun wondering about a particular aspect of the way the source works and its implications into the plot. It is fairly significant that the rebel Aes Sedai try to keep the weave for gateways from the seanchen and from those in white tower so much so that after using bowl of winds elayne risks unweaving a gateway, and rescuing Egwene from the tower is deemed as an awful idea because someone might be able to read the residues and learn the weave. my thoughts then went to how residues work, can they only be read after the weave is completed or has been collapsed? or can they also read active weaves such as wards or illusion (invisibil…

Perhaps it's been discussed before, but does anyone think the Herid, who half fell through the doorframe Ter'angreal in FoH in Rhuidean, mentioned by Kadere by name Herid, who had not been entirely right in his mind afterwards, might actually be Herid Fel the Philosopher first mentioned in A Taste of Solitude. I don't think it matters so much, but there are a few things there. Not being right in the head fits. That he was supposed to be an Andoran student of history and philosophy not so much. That he had been one of the first to leave the wagons after crossing the Spine and Fel having somehow ended up in the Royal library in Cairhien would. I don't know whether the E…

As requested, a topic for the confirmed deaths in aMoL of all named characters. I'll provide an "official" list in the OP. I'll start with the ones I can think of off the top of my head, however, it will most likely not be the complete list, and I'll add more when you guys pick up ones that I will miss. I will only add characters that have been established, not red-shirts. Any character that has been established in more than one book. I will also create another list here of characters who are techinically alive, but for all intents and purposes are dead. Like Serene and Graendal and the Turned Asha'man, or those who were destroyed by Drakghar. A final note …

  30. So I finished Path of Daggers last night, and so obviously I want to get the next book, but I've researched into Winter's Heart a little bit, and the description on wikipedia says that the two books take place at the same time. In ASoIaF, the two most recent books, A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons, take place at the same time, so fans had made a list of chapters in both books that follow consecutive order, so you could get both sets of characters instead of focusing on only one at a time. So, my question is: is there such a list for Winter's Heart and Crossroads of Twilight, and is it worth reading the two books in that fashion on the first read through?
