As we all know the wolves had long believed that a two legs would arise to lead them in The Last Hunt. Given that one of the three main characters was a Wolfbrother, it was assumed by many readers that Perrin would be the fulfillment of this prophesy. However, as the story played out we find that Perrin ended up sleeping through most the The Last Battle while Elyas fought along side the wolves in TG. Sure Perrin did fight along side the wolves in their confrontation with the Darkhounds, however, his presence was inconsequential as it was the wolf Heros of the Horn who defeated the Darkhounds. This leads me to believe that Elyas was, in fact, the two legs prophesied to…

Hey guys. Just a quick question: approximately how long is river of souls? And in case the answer is available in the "mostly" spoiler-free review, well, I hope y'all understand why I'd rather just ask here. In any case, I'm looking forward to getting it! But I'd like to wait and see if they make an audiobook of it. I really enjoyed the audiobooks of the main WoT books. Thanks!

I finally figured two things out and wanted to share. In APOD, Elayne is examining the ter'angreal found in Ebou Dar. One is a rod that makes her think of Fire: "She was alone; since the helmet, she had tried to do her studying away from the others. The heat of the rod made her think of Fire... Blinking, she opened here eyes [...] 'What happened?' Elayne demanded, and Nynaeve shook her head grimly. 'You don't want to know.' Her lips twitched" This always bothered me, maybe because I have a dirty mind, but I really wanted to know what RJ had happen off screen. I read a thread where people shared various opinions on what happened, all dirty. However, I was nev…

I may get some hate here but no matter. First issue is with the three girls, annoying as hell, double standards everywhere, irrational at every oppourtunity, nyneaves choice to hate moiraine for doing that nasty, nasty thing of saving all of their lives many times! Stupid girl... I recall one moment in book three where the girls lift mat off his feet after he sets them free, without so much as a thank you and stalk off on him, then in the next book the girls are furious when rand does the same to them, how dare he! And then egwene fights a pinch on the bum with what she considers a 1-100? Woah that escalated quickly :/. Next is the way the three lads are made to …

I thoroughly enjoyed this book - I was wondering if any of them would ever revisit two rivers and what everyone would think of their return. Also I've been wondering if any of the characters would get married - looking forward to what is going to happen next. I'm just beginning the fifth book of the series. I didn't mind Faile at first but when she tricked loial in to taking her through the ways I began to greatly dislike her. However she seemed to make up for it later on and doesn't seem like such a bad character anymore. It was a little difficult for me to follow Nynaeve's story at times in this book but I think I got a pretty good understanding overall of everything th…

Which was the moment you knew that this is a great fantasy and you didn't want to leave it? What was the thing that made you to go on and to want more and more of these wonderful series? Was it a person or Aies Sedai and the White Tower? Or maybe The One Power? Or was it some of the villains? Mine was in book 1 when Nynaeve found the Rand and the others after they had left. Then it was sure that she was going to be a major character and i was hooked. Mostly because i am a huge Nynaeve fan :) When i finished the book i was most exited for the fates of Rand, Lan and Nynaeve. I would love for you to share with me your opinions and first impressions of the series :…

I get that hes the reluctant hero and understands that Elayne is on his side so doesn't want to start problems with her. But at the same time. People in the Two Rivers are barely aware they are in Andor. The armies of Andor have, repeatedly, failed to protect the Two Rivers or do anything to help them. People in Andor do not even care that the Two Rivers are part of the realm. If a state no longer taxes a region or sends officials to it then essentially they are already independent and have been for centuries; with their own town councils running things. The Queen of Ghealdan seemed pretty much up for this. She doesn't want to be vassal to the Queen of Andor she wanted to…

Thom is one of the most perplexing characters. From a simple Gleeman who can knock your socks off with a tale (or a knife - blindfolded) so riveting, so immersing, you almost believe you're there, to a spymaster and senior lieutenant in one of the worlds fastest growing armies. The little that we know of Thom's history comes from Moiraines conversation, about Thoms gentled nephew, and Moiraines assurances they would meet again. The rest is what we see and read about him. Despite being a fairly distinctive figure, an old, white haired, white mustached dignified gentleman, he has an uncanny ability to blend in, to remain virtually unseen and unremembered if he so chooses…

So, we know that Mesaana was in the White Tower, and really only interacted with Alviarin. And every time she interacted with Alviarin, she was fully cloaked (Mask of Mirrors, weaves inverted, strength hidden, etc.). But when Mesaana (we assume) Travels to the rebel camp to have a talk with Sheriam in Towers of Midnight, she's still disguised, but Sheriam specifically marvels at how much stronger Mesaana is than she is. So I guess my question is WHY? Why does she hide her strength from Alviarin and not from Sheriam? The only thing I can think of is that the rebel camp has lots of strong channellers around, so a Forsaken-level channeller wouldn't be too out of place t…

Did RJ give an explanation of why there was so little humility in TWOT? Why is it that just about every character is a bigger a..hole or b...h then the next? As a matter of fact who is the most humble character in TWOT? My vote goes to Tam.

As hilarious as the scene is with Nynaeve when this comes out, I always felt like "really?" they have no problem with the idea of sharing and don't think badly of Rand because he likes them all? Didn't Elayne have her heart set on Rand, sort of made this plain to him and that Aviendha was setting herself to watch over him? Then Aviendha scalps Rands virginity instead! :D No hard feelings? Its just very strange. If they were obsessed about Rand you would expect them to get possesive and try to push the others away? Or, think he was being unfaithful? The "arrangement", well, that taverrn magic is definitely powerful. There is a little bit of tension in the beginning with Mi…

i've read several times, mostly by the Whitecloaks when talking about Perrin that it is well known that they serve the Dark One. now, what could have caused this idea besides normal Whitecloak foolishness. the Borderlanders know that wolves hate Trollocs. is it just cause there exist Trollocs with wolf-heads? cause with that logic boars and goats would be seen as evil as well. does it have to do with the mysterious and wild nature of the wolves that might be misunderstood? is there anything that could to the normal everyday human be seen as supporting a wild tale of wolves serving the Dark One at all?

Hi all, first post. I figured this had likely been done before but searches turned up nothing. I love making lists and rankings things, so I thought it would be fun to assign D&D style ability scores to the characters in Wheel of Time. A quick note about the numbers for those unfamiliar with D&D. 10-11 represents the average human range, 3 represents the lower limit of human capacity. 12-13 is good, better than the average human. 14-15 is very good, with maybe 2-5% of people exhibiting this level of ability. 16-17 is exceptional and easily places one in the 99th or 99.9th percentile. An 18 is the highest unaugmented (magic, technology) human level for a…

What happens when the army of light fractures into its components? Is Perrin Lord of the Two Rivers, or King of Saldea? Does Mat lead the Seanchan forces in retaking seandar? Is Malkier reclaimed from the shadow. And what is with Rand's impossible pipe?

(This doesn't seem quuuite like a "simple question" to me, since it may not even have a real answer, hence the new topic. I apologize if I am mistaken on that count.) Despite the fact that they are all identical, apparently (that is, if I'm remembering correctly from The World of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time) Fades are given names, specifically in the Trolloc language (leaving aside "Superfade" Shaidar Haran's name being Old Tongue). I've been looking around the past few days for possible names or at least words that could be used as names, but have not had what I would call success. So far, I've literally only been able to find eight words. Ba'alzamon, of course, Dj…

Hello everybody—this is my first post in the forum. I'm currently onto book 5 and finding the series pretty fantastic, but something is bothering me. I've looked around the net trying to find out Robert Jordan's religious beliefs and only found insubstantial information. He describes himself as a "high church Episcopalian" but some of his other quotes point towards him not being a super conservative, "The only way to heaven is through the Son" Christian I would be very grateful if you could help me answer this question :).

Hi everyone! I just joined the forum here to ask this question. Does anybody understand the existence of Cha Faile? I mean, so a group of nobles decide to basically try to become Aiel and step 2 is they swear allegiance to Faile of all people? How does that happen? How do you decide you want to be like the Aiel and then decide you want to follow a person who isn't Aiel or remotely like one? And beyond Cha Faile, when Faile's captured by the Shaido other people captured are falling all over themselves to swear fealty to her. I don't understand this at all. I agree with the general negative impression of her, but even from a sympathetic viewpoint she's still very young and …

So the other day I was having an epic spatula vs tongs swordfight with my friend's kid, and along the way I realized how much easier it would be to have a spear (and the general advantages to spears). This naturally lead to thinking of the Aiel. While I was thinking about how much less metal a spearhead uses as opposed to a sword I realized that there's almost no wood in the Waste. There must be 50 mentions of nothing growing straight enough to use for anything decent. So where do the shafts for their spears come from? Do they trade, and if so why do peddlers bring books instead of spearshafts? I'm sure this has an obvious answer but it's got me.

Okay so I had a crazy random thought. A lot of people complain about Alivia's role in "helping Rand die" just by giving him some gold. I agree with those complaints. Mainly, how on earth did she know Rand would survive in Moridin's body? How did the switch even take place? The way it's written, when Rand leaves, it's like he just woke up for the first time. How did Alivia know to put gold within his reach, and if she did, how did Rand know it was Alivia who had done so? It doesn't make any sense. The only way I can see that Rand would know Alivia was involved, was if he had seen her before waking yet after Tarmon Gaidon, and the only person he did see: "Was that…

In this weeks topic I thought we should discuss the future of people who though always respected, have held the most unforgiving duty in the world, and who have suffered greatly for their valor: the Borderlands. The Borderlands have existed for 3000 years under various forms and banners. Always they have been the first shield against the Shadow. None have suffered as much as they. Malkier was wiped out half a century before the Last Battle. Saldaea's capital has been left in ruins. Kandor's has been left a ruin in it's entirety, and Shienar as well was ravaged during the retreat from the Gap. The death toll is undoubtebly enormous and a further strain upon the…

dont know if this is the right place to post this, but anyways, been searching google and tried to find an answer but nothing. So in the book The Path of Daggers Rand starts getting nauseaus from saidin, what im wondering is why is Rand getting affecteed by this the way he does when both Taim and Logain or none of the others clearly dont get effected att all in the same way when both Taim and Logain have been channeling for much longer (sorry for my bad english)

Gathering Storm really pushes the fact that we need Moiraine back. She is mentioned so many times either directly or indirectly by almost every main character at least once. I also think that Cads mishandling of Rand is meant to further this point and his general off the rails behaviour. Nynaeves POV is most clear on this when she not only says I wish moiraine were here but that it was because she had a way of yielding to him but still guiding him down the right path. Indeed, I do remember this being noted in the earlier books that she does influence him more when she says she will do what he says. But I am not sure if they were really that close or that she had that much…

Feel free to provide your examples. Ever since LoC the series was progressively growing impossible to read, with longer and longer sequences devoted in excruciating detail to characters basically sitting around doing nothing but reminisce, worry, bicker, and go into annoying hyperbole. Why was it necessary to extend Perrin's Faile rescue over 4 books? Why did we have to read nonsensical sequences with Elaine meeting with every goddamn noble in the kingdom and take three-chapter-long baths? Matt bickering with Tuon, random generals moving their troops through random locations and thinking about their grandmother's stew, every single appearance of Valan Luca - how could any…

Okay. This is probably just me being me right now, but I need to get it off my chest. Cadsuane is INSUFFERABLE. I honestly cannot comprehend what RJ was thinking with her. One of the most brilliant things about this series is that all the characters suffer from some kind of bias and don't always make good decisions. (unfortunately this seems to happen a lot for the villains too. Seemingly even more so but whatever) But Cadsuane is ALWAYS right. I've yet to see her be wrong about anything and characters who don't listen to her are treated as at worst fools or at least misguided. She's always in control of a conversation. She's always got a plan and a backup and…

I just finished reading Knife of Dreams where the head of the Deathwatch guards brings an Aes Sedai damane with him to meet Matt. The Aes Sedai with Matt are repulsed and demand her be released but they are shocked that she enjoys her captivity and wouldn't want to be freed. I get that the adam can be sued to torture somebody and that people can be broken. But without some sort of mind control I don't see how you could break them, brain wash them and keep them actually useful enough to form weaves. Hasn't every Aes Sedai sworn the 3 oaths to serve the general good and fight the shadow? Isn't being enslaved by this barbarian scum completely going against that? I just find …

First of all, I would very much like you to be a tad bit merciful towards my grammar and spelling since I am not a native speaker. Then, let's get to the heart of the matter which I assume has already been discussed on, but I could not find it in the Forum. I suspect all of you have already finished AMoL, not to say devoured it from beginning 'til the very end of it, and found yourselves horribly frustrated with the end Robert Jordan & Brandon Sanderson chose. So, here's my question : Rand, whose soul has been reincarnated - or transfered - into Moridin's body, appears to not be able to channel anymore. When he seeks One Power and then True Power to light his pipe, …
