  1. Hello. I think the DO is not bad. You probably think I'm crazy but keep reading. "The Dark One was not the enemy, and it never had been" As Rand sais when he fights him, the Dark One is nothingness. I think he is not "evil" as we understand it, I think he is just the negative balance of the Pattern as the Creator is the positive, and as everything in the world of tWoT, it's all about balance and duality. They aren't "enemies", they work together to make the world work properly. The existence of both of them is what grants people freedom of will. He never was the enemy because he never really intended to win. And what do they (Creator and DO) care about some deaths…

  2. The Tinkers in Wheel of Time seem to have a lot in common with the Ancient Hebrews (who later became the Jews as 10 of their 12 tribes were conquered and dispersed into the world). Nomads The Tinkers are nomadic, always on the move, always searching for "the Song." The Ancient Hebrews were a nomadic people, always in search of greener pastures for their flocks, and ultimately a home that is peaceful and plentiful. The "Song" they searched for seemed to be found when they found God (sometimes referred to as "the Light" in the Bible). I'm half way through AMoL right now, and it seems like Rand may have found "the Song," and it's interesting that it makes flowers and gr…

  3. While we only got one PoV with anything to do with Tinkers, their fate post-aMoL is most interesting and worth a look at. What will the Tinkers - who disdain fighting and anyone who fights - think about the Last Battle. Will their opinions change like Raen's, and how will this affect their society and customs? Before anyone has to point it out, I'll state in the first post that no, the Tinkers will never find "the Song". They would not recognize the Talent if they saw it. It has been confirmed by Brandon in his Tor Chat interview. However, that doesn't mean they will stop looking. But how long will they continue to look before they give up and it becomes a my…

I had flu for the last 2 days and cracked on with reading the last 3rd of AMoL. In the last few hours, I have observed an epic battle encompassing an entire world. Characters I have loved have died and had their hearts broken. Tam has set fire to his son's funeral pyre and so many other emotive moments. I have cried so much. My high temperature has not shifted one bit Overall I am in awe of what I have read, but also struggling to come to terms with an end to the turning of the wheel. What now? Anyone else feeling bittersweet at the journey having finished?

There is an ideal time for the seals to be broken for the light and there is an ideal time for the DO. So what happens if the seals are broken at a time that is ideal for neither side. Or in other words, why didn't agents of the shadow break the seals immediately when they obtained possession? I have an idea. The DO wants to remake the world in his own image. To do that, he must break the wheel, but he cannot break the wheel so long as the pattern exists. The pattern acts as a buffer to protect the wheel. If the DO breaks free and the pattern still exists, then the DO will be in direct contact with the pattern and the pattern will ensnare him. The wheel will start…

This is the book I would most like to see come next. After the Last Battle, with chaos back home in Seanchan, the capital city Seandar a wreck, what happens next? Does Matt travel across the ocean? Does Tuon stay in Randland? Do we rename the lands the Seanchan hold in Randland as New Seandar? Obviously the laws and customs of New Seandar are going to be different than those of the rest of Randland, because of the huge divide on how channelers will be dealt with initially. I'm sure eventually some of those differences are ironed out, if not all of them. With Gateways making travel across huge distances especially easy, will we see families intermixing? Old Sean…

I just read a section out of The Gathering Storm (my first read through). In Chapter 13 "An Offer and a Departure", Gawyn defeats two warders at once for the third time in a row. One of the two warders, Sleete, was described as "...near-legendary in the White Tower for his prowess. He was said to have bested even Lan Mandragon twice out of seven bouts, back when Mandragon had been known to spar with other Warders." Really? I want say Sanderson is hornswoggling us here. Some new Warder never before mentioned appears in Book 12, and he beats Lan two out of seven spars? And Gawyn can beat him plus another Warder three times in a row? I'm not buying it. I'd like to think …

  11. Hi, I'm new to the whole Wheel of Time series and only started reading it a while back. At the moment I'm on the fifth book and I have a question I want answered without having too much revealed, hence why I don't just search for an older thread. So my question is this. Is Egwene going to continue being so... annoying, for lack of a better term, for the rest of the books? I honestly did like Egwene in the beginning of the series. She was easily in my top 3 characters in the first and second books and I enjoyed reading about her. Her remarks about males as a whole got irritating at times but I could deal with it. But the last few books she's been really against…

I came across the first 10 books of the series for a very cheap price, and after doing some research they all seem to be 1st edition 1st printing hardcover copies. I'm looking to sell them but I have no idea where other than ebay. Books 7 and 8 have some bad mold damage but the other 8 are in great condition. If anyone has any experience I'd be really grateful. Here are some pictured of Eye of the World and The Great Hunt if you can take anything from them. http://imgur.com/a/DRB2v And sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

This thread is for discussion on the Black Tower. That means the events that happened there, it's current situation, it's future, ect... If you wish to talk about how you think Androl usurped Logain, or Logain did nothing during the Last Battle, take it to the appropriate threads.

  15. Long-time lurker here. I'm a programmer and creator of www.upvt.it, a site where you can create march-madness style brackets of whatever you want. Being a sucker for this bracket stuff, I *really* enjoyed the WoT cage match and decided to create a 32-contestant 'Best WoT Character bracket: http://upvt.it/#!/brackets/best-wot-character I'd like to do a 'Best WoT Villian', or maybe Males vs Females bracket in the future. Like I said, I really get a kick out of this stuff. If anyone else here likes the idea please check out the site and let me know what you think.

  16. So yes, basically what the title says. Have the characters you love/hate changed as you progressed through the series, and in particular through their actions/role in AMoL? Some characters like Lan, Perrin, Aviendha, and Mat I haven't really changed my opinion on at all and have liked from the get-go, but others have gone massively in and out of favour for me. Rand: found him kind of boring on my first read through and didn't look forward to his POVs. In subsequent re-reads I have come to like him more and more, and feel immense sympathy/pity for him and the pressure he is under. Egwene: Absolutely despised her from tEotW-FoH, then had her massively grow on…

I want to pick up a copy of TWORJWOT. I am aware of the substandard illustrations & agree with the people who don't like them (I wish they could have used the same artist as the RPG!) but I want to read the text. I am only a few hundred pages into TDR, so how spoilerish is The World of RJ's WOT? Can it be read safely without ruining the books that came out between TDR & TWORJWOT? Thanks!

Now that everything is complete, what was the stand-out book for you? Vote in the poll for your favourite book and combine a list ranking the books in order of preference. This thread is only for voting and ranking. Let's keep it to just that. A vote and list, so people can see what others think. As it's completely subjective - I ask you not to debate others' opinions in this thread, take it to another. This is a thread where everyone can state their opinion "for the record" and see how it compares to others.

But it might be a drill. Hello folks, I’m trying to present this case in as factual a way as possible. Stick with me, and hopefully we can put a lid on it. (It’s worth noting that it might not merit a lid, however – it might just be a mystery) First off, lets get the basics out of the way. Callandor was created shortly before the breaking of the world. It was made with a flaw – allowing female channelers to take control of the man using it. This flaw was exploited by Rand, Nyn, and Mo to seal the dark one via Moridin’s TP access. Furthermore, it doesn't have a safety buffer – thus allowing overdrawing of the one power. I strongly believe that it (Callandor) wa…

One thing that has confused me throughout this series is the status of Padan Fain / Mordeth as a darkfriend, or a kind of renegade darkfriend. After the conglomoration of Padan Fain and Mordeth in Shadar Logoth, it appears by some of his actions that he is in league with the Dark One and cooperating with the other darkfriends and overall plans of the Dark One. At other times, however, it seems as though he is free of the influence of the Dark One, and has become his own entity with his own plans, a sort of renegade darkfriend with strange abilities, able to control Trollocs and so on. Can someone give me some clarity on this?

Sanderson's reveals are so unlike Jordan's. Jordan was always subtle, always kept you guessing. Sanderson hits the reveals home like a hammer leaving no doubt as to what just happened. The characters in TGS and ToM seem to have developed a clairvoyance they never before came close to having. Chalk part of that up to character development, but I liked Jordan's subtlety. That said, someone PLEASE tell me that the reveal to Asmodean's killer wasn't in the glossary under Graendal? That...can't...be...right. Please point out the passage that I MUST have missed, making me either a poor reader or Sanderson more subtle than I thought. Otherwise, I think I'm gonna thr…

Hi guys. I'm on my first complete wotrr and something puzzled me. I don't know of it's so obvious that nobody even bothered to post it anywhere(because I did search the forums for this and it isn't mentioned in any wot-encyclopedias I know of) but either way I couldn't find it. So Sorilea showed Cadsuane the Traveling weave right?...Well how did she know it herself? I doubt that she reinvented the weave with her pitiful channeling ability or another aeil wise one - an essential part of reinventing it is going to TAR - so dreamwalkers. But that would assume they would go there in the flesh - which isn't happening. That leaves it with someone showing the weave to the aeil.…

As a follow-up to the errata thread, here's a tentative list of corrections (save typos) made in the ebook edition. Please let me know of any changes I've missed; I'll continue to update this list as I find new ones. Pevara's uncle is dead and doesn't "live" in Kandor anymore. Egwene shouldn't know who Moridin is. As Terez pointed out, Mat knows Egeanin better than to refer to her as "that Seanchan woman." Original scene switched to Egwene's POV despite it being Silviana's. Teslyn sounds more like an Illianer now. Another sudden POV switch from Olver to Faile. Narishma's nationality and ability to Heal Lan while …

  24. There was one scene in this book that provided a mental image above all others for me. I've posted this here as some may consider it a MoL spoiler. The scene at Merrilor (I think?) when Rand assembles the massive meeting tent. This scene is written in such a way that I saw it unfold in my mind's eye far more vividly than any scene I have read before. Ideally, I want to see this scene play out in real time, in a movie (the series is just too big for this to be realistic though, I think), so instead I would LOVE to see an image of this. If I could draw, I'd be doing this myself right now, but I am terrible with a pencil. So, can anyone recommend a place that som…

  25. I hope this is not a topic that has already been addressed in a different forum, but I believe it is an important one for discussion. Please reply with all opinions, ideas, theories, etc.. Thanks! Did anyone else notice, from the time Rand, Mat, and Perrin start to display signs of Ta'veren, they never wind up at the same place together. You will see two of them cross paths now and then, but it is only for a short time, then one of them will go off to do their own thing. Obviously, their strong pull on the pattern reeked havoc on any place they stayed at too long. Having all three together would be a nightmare for a town, let alone a large city! But I thought for…

When Rand battles Asmodean for control of the CK access key in Rhudien he reaches through the 'fat-man' angreal, and the access key simultainiously. The (comparatively) small amount of additional power he gained from this allowed him to best Asmodean and gain control of the CK. From this it seems that it is possible to reach through multiple angreal and Sa'angreal and add their power yet i dont recall this being used by Rand or any other user of the One Power at any other point. Does anyone know anything about this? is there a limit (similar to circles and linking) to the number one can access simultainiously? or could someone gain massive power simply by carting around…

  28. We have the saddest moments, now what about the things that were awesome?

  29. If you were the Lights main general? First off, I'd send more channelers to Tarwins Gap, if not the entire Thankan 'dar force. There was an estimated force of 150,000 trollocs there. A couple of dozen channelers quickly killed 100,000 at Algarin's manor. Granted, that group included some of the lights most powerful and experienced channelers, but I still think that force should have been quickly reduced to a point where it took few defenders to hold them bottled up in the gap. There were no dreadlords there at first. Rand told Min that Lans and Elaynes forces were in big trouble. Only Egwenes army was doing well. Why then did he decide to send her the Seanchan? H…

I know Moiraine already has her own AMoL thread, but I've been doing a re-read since AMoL came out, and what struck me was how much these three chracters just fade out of the plot. Okay, lots of other characters fade out too, but these three are pretty major. I have seen people commenting that after tSR RJ didn't really know what to do with Loial, and Moiraine is absent for obvious reasons but doesn't play as big a role as many people thought she would on her return, but not much on Nynaeve. I didn't particularly notice it on my first read, perhaps because there were long waits between books coming out and I forgot who had focused in which plots, but in the first hal…
