In lieu of the holiday spirit, I'd like to take this opportunity to reflect upon how The Wheel of Time series has affected me as a reader. Before The Wheel of Time entered my life, I primarily read fictional novels written by the likes of Dan Brown, Ken Follett, and Nelson Demille. While I have read the Lord of the Rings trilogy & Harry Potter, I had never considered fantasy novels to be "page turners," which is what I consider most of the books written by the aforementioned authors. In April of 2011 (my final semester of undergraduate life) a close friend of mine, who was staying at my townehouse for the weekend, brought with him the Eye of the World and p…

  2. For the most part I think everybody ended up with the right person thoughI think Mat and Beaded Hair Girl Who Make Stuff Go Boom should have been explored more...but this topic is meant more in the lighter vein than a serious dissection of how good for each other the characters are... I would have loved to have seen Rand and Nyneave have a romance...but of course I love Nynaeve and Lan. I think Mat hooking up with Avi had potential...I bet they could have had some GREAT games of Maiden's Kiss ;-) The same yearning I have for a Rand/Nyneave pairing wonders at how a Rand - Moiraine relationship could have worked (pretending the Finn's warning did not exist). I think Ran…

In KoD (?) Lunnault moves his persuasive secretary services over to Sylvase. In ToM we find out that he is a darkfriend when he tries to help the Black Ajah escape from the dungeons in Caemlyn. But I haven't seen any discussion on what this indicates in regards to Sylvase. I know Luckers used to have a fun theory that Sylvase was Cyndane but I believe that theory was killed by Team Jordan. So what do you guys think? Does Lunnault (sp?) being a darkfriend indicate that his employer Sylvase is one as well?

there is one character, introduced in the first book and seen throughout the series. shes steadfast and loyal to ber ais sedai, but her power is only hinted at. as rand walks through the caverns at shayol gul, with his taaveren companions, it is the fourth taaveren who provides the crucial key. 1. nynyaeve channels callandor straight into the bore 2. she directs the flow to touch the dark one in order to begin the resealing. 3. rand, linked with nynyavae cannot channel, but as the true power meets the true source, the backlash begins once more 4. rand carefully guids bela into the pit of doom. 5. for the very first and last time, bela channels. its her channeling…

The last book is very very close. I remember well how excited I was when finishing the Towers of Midnight. I was like "Light! What will happen now?" Now I'm like, there was something I was particularly curious about but... what was that?? I don't remember anything! People in this forum are arguing about who was controlling Masema and I just feel like, "What the hell was Masema" Am I the only one who has serious memory problems about this books? I want to remember every detail. Thats how it is fun. So, is there anything you can advise?

I was wondering if there is any plan out there to release RJ's original notes for the final 3 books that have been written? I know I would pay excellent money to see any such things. Nothing against Sanderson here but I would like to see how Robert had it penned and spoken (to sort of see through his eyes). Am I the only one out there with this interest?

  8. I don't know if this has been discussed before, so sorry if it has. I've been reading the World of the Wheel of Time and reading about the situation that led to LTT's sealing of the bore in the AOL. It says that a woman named Latra Posae Decume led the opposition to LTT and managed to convince every female AS not to go along with LTT's plan. Now to me, someone who opposes the main leader in the fight against the Shadow has got to either be stupid and arrogant, or a Darkfriend/Forsaken in disguise. After all LTT's plans had saved the world from complete destruction up to that point so he had proved himself over and over again. Even 2 Forsaken had joined the …

  9. I, for one feel very depressed when i run across a pic on twitter and facebook of someone more fortunate then I that has an advance copy of the book that encapsalates my 22yrs journey into the wheel of time. I would like to express, please don't flaunt these photos they are just a vivid reminder of my beloved story is coming to an end. I am happy for you, but I am not in the "inner circle" and do not like this feeling of the inevitable end.

  10. In tPoD, when Elayne was studying this crimson rod ter'angreal, alone, in an inn, suddenly she had no idea whatsoever of what happened when she opened her eyes. Avienda and Birgitte stood by the door. She asked Nynaeve but didn't tell her. The kinswomen, the Windfinders etc, the Aes Sedai were 'hiding grins' at her after that. What was that about? I'm asking the same question as Elayne, 'what happened?'. It's got to be that rod. (O.o)

  11. I read this quote from Suttree in another post and it made me think : "The bond severed because Moiraine was actively channeling when that specific gateway was destroyed, it doesn't matter that there are other entrances to the Finn land. It was their channeling when entering a world with a radically different set of natural laws that destroyed the gateway and caused the bond to sever." Well if Rand is supposed to Die and Come back - will he still be bonded to all those chicks? If he get bodyswapped? What if he just digs out and uses a portal stone to go live a simple life as a Grolm farmer with Lady Selene somewhere? Maybe thats where the "pass his bon…

If we know one thing about the Wheel, it is that it has neither beginnings nor endings, something we have read thirteen times already, and preparing to hear one more time in January. However, we have this.. Not an ending, the ending. The only conceivable way for there to be THE ENDING would be for the Dark One to win, and end the wheel. Might as well getting around to bowing to the Great Lord now.

  13. Throughout The Wheel of Time, we have seen many times foreshadowings that the near-eternal turning of the Wheel is coming to an end. I think someone, probably a Forsaken, said "the Great Serpent heaves its last gasps". Perhaps this suggest that Time itself is coming to an end, or perhaps I'm dreaming. In any case, it has now been Rand's goal for quite some time not just to seal the Dark One up again, but to "slay him", or at least, somehow destroy him. As a reader, I would be a bit disappointed if he only achieved what we assume every other Dragon has achieved, and the Dark One can eventually erode the seals and break free again. Of course, Rand might find some way to…

If you haven't read my FAQ article Blood on the Rocks, I suggest doing so. I have drawn some conclusions in it which are inherently biased toward my opinion, but I have also included every prophecy which might possibly be relevant to Rand's death (if I overlooked something, please let me know). I did at least link to Luckers' body-swap theory (which might or might not be updated since TOM - I don't think it has been). Anyway, if you read the page and you're all 'OH! But I already voted and now I've changed my mind!' ...remember you can always delete your vote and vote again. The tl;dr version of that page: keep in mind that the Aelfinn said that Rand must die to surv…

In the 1994 movie, "Wolf" with Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer, there is a ceiling to floor bookcase prominante in the movie that is stocked with Wheel of Time books. The story is about Jack Nicholson's character being bit by a wolf one night. He then slowly starts turning into a wolf himself while trying to live his normal life. As I was watching, I thought that the storyline was similar to Perrin's in the Wheel of Time. Lo, and behold I then saw the bookshelf lined with Wheel of Time books. I don't know if this is intentional or not but a it is a fun easter egg for us WOT fans. Sorry, could not find any screen caps of the scene. But it is best seen in…

  17. Orban & Furlan. The two Hunter's for the Horn from Chapter 33 in tDR. Don't know if this was already discussed, and had a devil of a time trying to look it up in the forums, so just thought I'd start a new post. I just wanted to say that if anything can be described as a "loaded gun", it is these two, rofl. I don't know that I really want to see them again in the story, but they would be a perfect fit for a "Chekov's gun" scenario. Thoughts? Other opinions?

Does anyone know if The Wheel of Time books were released in trade paperback format with the original artwork? I have to recreate my collection and would like the larger format books... the new artwork is very nice but I'm a nostalgic kinda guy :)

I pre-ordered the leather bound edition of A Memory of Light back in early November. I just got an email from Barnes and Noble saying that my order was canceled. I called them and asked why and they said that apparently the publisher hasn't updated their information as to when they can expect delivery in their warehouses of the item. So they automatically canceled it. I went ahead and checked the books page on Bn.com and lo and behold there is no longer an option to purchase the leather bound version. I'm starting to freak out a bit... anyone have news on this? :(

Might not be the right forum for this but I haven't seen anything elsewhere for this. Tor announced this party in Manhattan: http://www.tor.com/blogs/2012/12/announcing-the-party-reborn-a-midnight-a-memory-of-light-nyc-release-event I was thinking of going to this one and meeting other fans of the series and celebrate the release of aMOL. Are a lot of you planning on going to any of these events or know of any other release parties? My dance card is assigned only to this book for that week and so far the above party is the only one I've seen/heard of. Any inputs from the rest of you?

Is there a database of Randland cusswords, and what their Modern day or english equivalent is? for example: Ashes = the S word for excrement Bloody = I assume the F word. Mother's Milk in a Cup = who the heck knows?

I just finished TOM and was reading the glossary and it confirms that Graendal was Asmodeon's killer under her entry. Did I miss something? or is this something that will be reveiled in AmoL .Sorry if this is redundant, I am trying like hell to get caught up....re reading TGS now ( or rather audiobooks, I get distracted, it's a PITA)

I always wonder how many fans of WOT there are in michigan, there are not ever any tours, its easy to get the books, nothing crazy when the new books come out. I feel this is one of the reasons authors never visit michigan for books signings. If im wrong and there are many fans in michigan that love the books as much as I do, we need to find some way to get Brandon to stop in Michigan(lansing preferably lol), so we can get our books signed. Just saying :)

  27. Hi, sorry if this is a stupid question but just how rich are the characters in WoT? I thought of this question when I realized how much gold they have. In TSR, Moiraine gives enough gold to Nyneave and Elayne to buy an entire fleet of ships. And I'm sure I read somewhere that someone had enough gold to buy 2 villages. And in New Spring, it was stated that an Aes Sedai receives a thousand gold mark stipend from the Tower each year. Which looks a lot, but in the chapters after, Moiraine bought dresses for ten gold marks each and I recall she bought at least 20. For me, this makes the salary of Aes sedai pretty low, because that means if an Aes sedai decides to splur…

When I think of it - Gaul owes perrin or has Toh to him. However: where was he when Aram went nuts? In the battle with the whitecloaks/trollocs - shouldnt he have been there to guard perrins back against Byar? thats two instances where Perrin almost bit it, but Gaul was nowhere around...yet when Perrins wants to contemplate life, Gaul is always around "sharpening his spear." Does anyone beside me think Gaul is a big enough character to do a "whoa..." kind of thing and either turn on Big P, or do something almost equally crazy or meaningful? I like the guy dont get me wrong, but so far I've only seen him sharpen his spear while complaining…

In several of Min Farshaw's POVs she mentions that she keeps knives hidden on her person the way that Thom Merrilin taught her. However I cannot think of any point in the series that Thom and Min had any interactions with each other or were even in the same city. Excepting just prior to tEoTW when they were both in Baerlon and when Rand and co. passed through. Am I just missing something. Thoughts?
