Hi all, Just wondering if any other fans who Have read the series as they were released over the past 15+ years are having or had the same troubles as I've found in the last week, namely; I can't seem to forget who the characters are NOW. I found myself laughing at how scared rand and Co were of the fade at the beginning of eye of the world and pretty much haven't stopped laughing since (now up to dragon reborn). It's great as I'm picking up on things I missed the first time round, but I can't get over the fact that I am not supposed to be laughing at these "tense moments" and tbh it's kinda ruining it for me! Any other long term fans had the same problem and if s…

Okay, I have been working on channeling and linking trying to make sense of how the power "adds" in a circle. From the book and the BBoBA we learn that while there is an additive effect it is not the same as adding their strengths (i.e. two AS at a power of 10 doen't equal 1 AS at a powerlevel of 20), and I think I have figured it out. You guys let me know what you think: The power-rating of a channeler actually represents the Radius of a circle (imagine a pipe-like connection to the One Power). Here are the figures for the different powerlevels (pi*r^2, fractions rounded down): 26 = 2123 25 = 1963 24 = 1809 23 = 1661 22 = 1520 21 = 1385 20 = 1256 …

[Removed] We continue our discussion of the WoT magic systems, its strengths and many, many weaknesses. Aha, now I've caught you thinking of post-factum explanations to make the elements fit the weave. There's nothing spiritual about a gateway. It's certainly supernatural, but so is everything else a channeller does. A gateway is a dimensional window from place A to place B, a purely utilitarian phenomenon without any spiritual significance. And male channellers do not "burn" a hole in the Pattern, Rand says "bore" or "punch" a hole. Earth could have been used just as easily as Fire. So now the mechanics of how the weaves work depend on the channellers under…

Been a while since i read Aviendha's ToM chapters so forgive me if I'm wrong. Basically, I know I for one wondered why the Raven Empire so fervently pursued the Aiel all the way into the waste, and seemed to be intent on not just subjugating them, but committing genocide. This theory just popped into my head just now. It is, Mat and Tuon adopt Olver, he becomes the Empire's heir, Mat and Tuon pass away for whatever causes and THEN Olver comes to power, declares war on the Aiel and wants to wipe them out since he hates them all. Boom.

I havent seen this debated on the forums anywhere so I thought I would bring it to light. While reading TGS I noticed that when Min comes across the quote "He shall hold a blade of light in his hands, and the three shall be as one." Cadsuane tells Min that she has reached the conclusion that this means that Rand must bond with two women in order to use Callandor. Here's my theory. Could the three being one be Rand, Lews Therin, and Moridin? Rand/Therin in Moridin's body would fulfill both the body swap theory and this. Am I completely out of my mind or is this a reasonable theory?

Just a fun thread game to pass the time. Answer the question and then post one of your own. Posting it in here so that there's no accidental spoilers because of a question ... but the questions can be anything related to the books. Would you rather ... 1. Know who Demandred is 2. Know who will win the battle of the Black Tower

I don't have my books with me, and I'm not certain which gives answers and which fills your needs..... Where do they get the objects of Power from they give people? Moriaine got an angreal, so powerful it's almost sa'angreal. Mat got a Power wrought ashandari and the foxhead medallion too. Where do the Finns get these objects from? It cannot be just from an unlucky traveler that happened to be in possession of that item when they came to bargain. For example: If 5 friends decided to go through the doorway in Rhuidean and all 5 asked for the exact same thing, it seems to me the Finns would be able to provide it. Are they able to create items of the Po…

Ok, so it's the last book--last chance to get glimpses of the world. What do you want to see--not big stuff, like 'Rand's death', but just the tidbits, the small elements that you've wanted to see... this isn't so much about plot points as elements in the world you've been waiting to see character address. They don't have to be likely (in fact I'm pretty sure mine won't happen), so don't worry about backing up them happening--just what you want to happen, and why you want it to happen is good. For me its... 1. Wise One's resisting the a'dam. The end of the year and a day for shaido da'covale. I don't think either is very likely--had brandon been intending to show them…

I have a few reason for why I believe Lanfear/Mierin will turn back to the Light. This is not to say she will turn to the Light for the purpose of self-preservation. I believe she will embrace the Light fully and I plan to explain why. 1. Her actions during the War of the Shadow. Specifically her protection of the Da'shain Aiel. I this interesting; when you realize that they very man that served her personally was the ancestor of Rand al'Thor you have to wonder if this is a connection RJ purposefully put into the series. It means more to me now then when I originally read this passage. 2. This statement to Lanfear by Ishamael: 3. Reincarnated …

I check a lot of the websites including the one on Facebook just hoping for intelligent discussion about one of my favorite topics: The Wheel of TIme series. I'm certain everyone is tired of hearing and seeing certain predictions, posts, and theories that just WILL NOT DIE. One I'm really tired of seeing and hearing about is one of the Forsaken turning back to the light before the end of the books.......... That makes me say "C'mon!" everytime I have to look at that idea. I'm sorry, but the Forsaken are evil, have done evil deeds, have openly followed and inflicted the Dark One's will on people. We're talking about the equivilant of SATAN in Randland. Parents hav…

I'm halfway through The Path of Daggers and I just have the simple question of why is every other person a Darkfriend? Literally half of the White Tower is Darkfriends, I'm pretty sure a good amount of Asha'man are too and a handful are just everyday people who are actually The Forsaken. Do that many people think they are safe when the last battle comes?

There is ongoing discussion in tread Combat Skills; Egwene vs. Nynaeve (no ter/sa angreal) that touches upon maters of strength and dexterity. I’d like to ask if somebody can provide me with more information on subject: are there any Words of Creators on relation of strength and dexterity? I mean are they proportional (greater the strength greater the dexterity) or are they independent (strong channeler can be of low dexterity, dexterous can be off limited strength) of each other? To clarify: I’m only interested in quotes of RJ, BS and Team Jordan, not anything off fandom.

The upcoming release of AMOL has peaked my interest in the subject of Mat, Perrin and Rand being three of the most powerful Ta'veren to ever live...specifically Perrin in that weird town. We've seen plenty of examples of Rand's...TGS was arguably ALL about that. Also, Hinderstrap was a huge example of Mat's. But, what effect did Perrin's Ta'veren nature have on So Harbor? Fish

This probably won't work, but having trawled through a few pages of the 'thisguy BS writing criticism etc.' thread, where there was lots of valid arguments either way but also lots of debate that went beyond being heated, to the point of veering on unpleasantness... That's probably inevitable, and so be it. But wouldn't it be nice to have a thread whose sole purpose is to remind ourselves that we all have lots in common, and the vast majority of people on here are smart, fun, passionate people with something interesting to say. So let's reflect that. And let's not just focus on the 'celebrity' posters, worth of praise though they might be (hi, Luckers!), but the rest of u…

So, lots of topics on who will die, and I thought for something a little different and a little fun we could talk about how we'd like to see characters die. It can be serious or as wacky as you like. Here's one from the cathartic side of me--I'd love to see Suffa killed by an Aes Sedai either in battle as she flails uselessly or as an assasination--perhaps in a chapter called the End of Punishment or something equally related to her current... predicament. (oooh, maybe Liandrin's the do-er) Cadsuane, if she has to go, then I want her to go out defending Rand. I want one of the Forsaken to be killed by Machin Shin--maybe Graendal--the Black Wind's hungers run d…

Afteer searching youtube for almost an hour i didn't find a version of Billy Joels We Didn't Start the Fire or wheel of time universe. It is time to correct that mistake. I have to admit that i don't have any musical scills but if someone has it's just great. I had the idea calling the song we didn't start the tarmon gaidon. Any ideas should it be from Breaking to the books or should it the song take place on the timeline of the books? Feel free to brainstorm or brainfart!

Aside from commanding Andor's armies, what makes Gareth Bryne a Great Captain? I understand the other Captains and what they have done to earn the title. I can even understand Pedron Niall, though I think he should have the title to a lesser degree. (Never fought shadowspawn like the others). I always assumed that leading your men, winning battles, and being a very good tactician would earn you the title and respect of everyone. I've yet to see, in New Spring, the Big White Book, or any of the other 13 novels anything that should denote Gareth Bryne to be a Great Captain. Thoughts???

I've been trying to figure out why the Dark One hasn't just Retainted Saidin. It's not like there is another Shadar Logoth lying around to cleanse it again, or for that matter another working Chodan Kal. My only possible theory for this could be that it requires a Ta'veren channeling at him. Just as there are certain things you can only do to channeler's like turn them evil or certain things you can only do in Shayol Ghoul. This theory would also explain why in 2000 years the Dark One hasn't tried tainting Saidar. Anyone else have a better theory or has RJ\BS ever explained this?

So, I've just been looking through the Great Hunt and come across this: There is absolutely no point in Suroth allowing Min to live here, Egwene has no choice but to do exactly as she's told - we see later how good they are at breaking people. So I'd say this qualifies as plot armor. (follow link at your own risk :) )

This is something that has been bugging me somewhat for the past few books, ever since The Path of Daggers or so. This is something I alluded to in another thread, but I'm interested in what other people think about this. So, while Nynaeve is far from my favorite, I find that I do like her character quite a bit. At first I was annoyed with her (weren't we all?), but as time goes on I've found that I find her unintentionally hilarious. That said, I get the feeling she's one of the least popular characters among the main cast (though that's based on very limited knowledge). With that in mind, it seems that Robert Jordan has been "gimping" Nynaeve over the past few b…

Hello All! Something that has been a big help to many of us for the last two releases of the Wheel of Time has been a spoiler support thread where we post to post and say how we are doing our best to avoiding ruing the ending or the middle or any surprises for ourselves. The point is not to judge one another on how good they are at self control, but to use this as a little relief valve to the pressure to spoil yourselves. So, be it a post about how you are avoiding the spoiling or be it a post about a trivia question about the Wheel of Time, anything that helps sate your thirst for the Wheel of Time, go for it! One caveat though... DO NOT POST ANY MATERIAL AT A…

Reading some recent theories, I am really liking some of the ideas that Moiraine will kill Rand. It would be a great twist in the story that the one woman who we've all been waiting for so long to return, and who Rand feels so guilty about killing, comes back to a nice big welcome....and toasts Rand. I had been considering it as a good theory, but not airtight. I read something recently to top things off that convinces me it's almost 100% Moiraine is going to be the one to pull the trigger on Rand. But before I get to that, there are some well established reasons for thinking Moiraine will kill Rand. Terez's theory on the twice dawning day sums them up very well. …

Forgive me please if this answer was already revealed and point me there... But how far (physically) do channellers require to be to form a link and or hold/maintain a link? I thought of this when reading about Rand needing two women with Calendor, and also the Pevera / Androl thing.. If you look at the cover, I'm going to assume Rand is already Linked with Nyn and Mo, and then going to dance with the DO, and he's way far away from them...haha. but seriously - if the story plays out that way, do Mo and Nyn have to enter Shayol Ghul with him and stand side by side the whole time? Or can they form a circle at FoM, then Rand Travels to the blight to take …

Okay slightly misleading title, consider it like a newspaper headline for a future day aha. So the point of creating this was a little flight of fancy I just had. We all know that CERN is looking for the Higgs Boson, now I'm not a scientist, and the Higgs stuff can confuse even professional physicists so bear with me a little. Now what I'm thinking is we know that universe runs on specific constants and laws, we also know that Randland is a future version of the earth, now this implies that the same constants have to exist. Now that means that someway there has to be a scientific way to describe channeling so that it fits with the laws of physics. We wont go into the …

This discussion started in another thread and I think I've stumbled across something a bit weird. Possibly a contradiction or maybe an oversight. The World of the Wheel of Time page 136 states that "Additionally he (Hawkwing) divided all of the nations into provinces which ofttimes overlapped old national boundaries. While lower level functionaries in any province always came from the same region, no-one was appointed governor over a province that held any part of the nation they had been born in and he made certain that soldiers garrisoned in a province always came from still another region of the empire. This made it impossible for any governor to build a personal b…

I have been re-reading the series. Currently on COT and you can kind get a feeling that Cad. will be going out in a big way. She is constantly mentioning that she has to survived until her job is done. I expect her to go down fighting someone. A forsaken perhaps? I expect at least Itualde or Bashere to die in some glorious charge. A big battle is going on and the trollocs break through. They sacrifice themselves leading the charge to plug the gap. Thats all I can think of now, I am at work and do not have the books on hand to provide references.

A Compiled Hypothesis on the Numbers and Society of Aes Sedai There used to be more Aes Sedai than there are in the current time. Certainly early in the Third Age, there were more Aes Sedai than there are now, but how many? Why did their numbers decline? Why are the Aes Sedai acting as they are? Number of Aes Sedai We have two different sources for the number of Aes Sedai. NS, Ch3 says there are 423 Aes Sedai in the Tower, with twice as many out in the world, meaning ~1,200. LoC, Ch7 gives us 294 Aes Sedai loyal to the Tower, and slightly more in the Rebel Camp, and the Loyalists are nearly one-third the total Aes Sedai. Loc, Ch37 also states that there are le…

I just finished my re-read of ToM and noticed something a bit odd. In the game of Snakes and Foxes, the player starts in the center and has to reach the outer ring before returning back to the center. Well isn't that backwards? When Olver got back to the center for the second time, Mat reached the edge of the Tower of Ghenjei for the second time and escaped. With the obvious connections between the Tower and the game, is this supposed to reflect Mat being in the Tower, escaping through his wish, and then going back a second time? But then the game would require you to get back to the edge to truly win, as Mat did in the Tower (his last words to the Finn at the end of Ch. …

I like how the world is fleshed out. It has a rich history going back over 3000 years and every nation is bought to life with its own customs, fashions, accents and even vendettas. I also enjoy the contradictions. No other series I know of has a hero that is destined to bring ruin to the world and is almost universally feared. The villains often help the hero while those who should be the good guys seek to undermine or destroy him. The whitecloaks, dedicated to the eradication of evil, come across as the bad guys while the Aes Sedai, unable to lie at all, cannot be taken at their word and are mistrusted. It takes a brilliant imagination to come up with these.

It sounds funny but I'm being dead serious. Based on previous evidence in the text of actual, real, physical effects on things and places caused by the Ta'veren nature of each of The Big Three's very presence (especially, of course, TDR)...if they get all together again, geographically-speaking...shouldn't something massive and catasclysmic HAVE to be a "side effect"? It'd be hilarious if the Big3 couldn't get within like 2 miles of each other or floods and typhoons would spring up everywhere! Ludicrous-sounding...BUT...there is a case to be made for the semi-validity of such a possibility. I wonder if Jordan or TeamJ ever thought od this...planned for it...or realiz…
