A while back I happened across some interesting looking hardcover copies of books 1 & 2 and my local used book store. I picked them up immediately, as I'm trying to collect together a full hardcover WoT set. After getting home with them, I took a closer look and found a few odd things: - They are both a bit smaller than regular HC editions of WoT books - No UPCs, barcodes, or ISBNs anywhere - No library of congress info on the copyright pages - Copyright date of 1990? - tEotW back cover has a small box in the lower right corner that says "19548", tGH has the same, but it says "19547" My only guess is that these are some sort of special Bookclub/Library edi…

So, I've been reading a lot of mythology lately, and I was reminded of the parallels between the Aes Sedai and the Aos Sídhe (ace sheega) of Irish myth. They were what came to be known as the fairies, and another name for them was the Tuatha Dé Danann (tooha day danan), which is clearly related to the travelling folks' name of Tuatha'an, though the why of that is a bit more confusing. But if the AS-fairy parallels are a big thing, then it does not look good for that future Aviendha saw. The story goes: There were different sorts of people who came to Ireland in groups: some were regular folk, some were giants; it's sort of vague. One day, the Tuatha Dé Danann (pe…

So, I was reminded of this prophecy in csarmi's signature: The emboldened line made me think of something. Now, keep in mind that through all of this I assume that this is a true Dark Prophecy, meaning that it's bound to be fulfilled. There's also the question of accuracy of prophecies dealing with the DO and what he does, and I'm ignoring that as well (how comfortable for me, eh?) So, if Rand has only two paths before him, and one leads to "death beyond dying", surly that would have to be the path that leads to the DO's release and subsequent destruction of the Pattern. At the time we might've suspected, but I think we can now safely say that is the DO's plan, …

I know she dug out somewhere and its 50/50 she may be BA. But shes one of those unfinished thingies. Maybe she's with Alanna? I thought about this after reading the post that Demandred "could" be the Sea Folk guy, since Meri ran away with a Sea Folk woman.

So, we know Mat and Tuon will survive, and we know Rand will die, so those three aren't listed. Beyond those three, which of the main characters (or their significant others) should be the token death toll for the Last Battle? You can only choose one. Inspired by sleepinghour's assertion that most if not all of the main characters and their significant others will survive. I think she's probably right, but I do have my own hopes... I think it's possible that as many as three would die, but there's another poll for that. PS—I personally think Perrin and Faile are unlikely to die because we know Perrin has to be king of Saldaea at some point, and we know he need…

Way back in tEoTW, ch 15 Min had this viewing about Thom The series is almost over and this viewing seems as mysterious as ever to me. Frankly, I have no idea what it is about or who the man in question is. I don't think it's any of the men present at the time of the viewing (Rand, Mat, Perrin and Lan), else Min would have likely recognized him (she seems to see his face in the veiwing). and I don't think it will be an entirely new character we haven't met yet. It's way too late in the series for that. But other than that I'm drawing a complete blank on this viewing. Any ideas what it's about and who the man in the viewing is?

I've read now a few times that Matt's memories are the memories of those people who have gone into the Tower of Ghenjei and had their memories riffled by the Finn. Has this actually been confirmed by RJ/BS? I have searched this and haven't been able to find a definite answer. Seems like there are a couple of problems with this. Seems like it would require that all or most notable military minds of the Third Age have gone to Finnland. But if it was that common I'd think we would have heard more about it. But there's nothing like that. In fact, the doorway leading to the Foxes, the ones that gave Matt his memories, was in Rhuidean (or in Aiel possession) since the…

Namely, "Mat as Judas" and "Mat as Aemon Reborn". I apologize if this is has been stated before, but I looked up some old threads on Mat as Aemon on DM and Mat as Judas on Theoryland(which is actually what caused me to find this bit on my reread) and couldn't find this said. I think the Mat as Aemon theory is old enough and well known enough that pretty much everyone knows about it. Mat spoke the Old Tongue before even picking up the dagger, much less the Finns. It's long been speculated that he was either Aemon Reborn or a direct descendant. I would go so far as to say it's all but a given, though I am sure some would still dispute it. Mat as Judas is a much more…

I'd like to apologize to Luckers, Barid, yoniy0, Fish and Sutt. I made a big mistake by voicing my concerns the way I did. I valued what *I* thought you guys were doing and informing you guys about it higher then both the rules and your feelings. I am very sorry that I offended you. I don't have that right..ever,.. regardless if I feel that my message is important. I can only hope that you didn't take offence too much. I know it shouldn't make a difference that I posted what I did with other intentions, but I'm hoping it will matter... some. Know that I hold what you guys say about WoT in very high regard and that it's that very fact, that I overreacted t…

Very brief accounting of the facts: 1. Four prophecies say Rand will die. (Many others say Rand will shed his blood on the rocks, but they are not the same prophecies.) One of them is a Min viewing, and as we learned with the Leya incident in TDR, when she says someone will die, they will die. 2. Rand is dead yet living on a boat with his three women in Nicola's Foretelling and also in a dream shared by Bair and Melaine. This presumably depicts his resurrection. 3. There are multiple foreshadowings of Nynaeve healing death, and even specifically Rand's death. 4. There are many, many more foreshadowings referring to the method by which Nynaeve will heal his…

Rand al Thor, pre GoV, almost completed the dark ones task for him by destroying the pattern. That's the dark ones goal, after all. And I think that the light covering rqnds brain protecting him from the darkness is the light incarnate. After all, even the forsaken talk about how there has never been someone spun from the wheel specifically till him. Therefore, VoG was the opening round of the last battle, and The light won. I think that is where rand first "dies" . It's my first time be gentle lol

Is anyone currently working on a written version of the chapter two audio? I have attempted to listen to the audio but, personally, I have a hard time listening to audio because I prefer to read. I was just curious if this is in the makings. Then again, I suppose I could just listen to it and write it out myself, then read it. Still curious, though.

One of the hardest things to read, right? Must have been crushing for Aviendha...the way I read it, her line was directly responsible for the slow and torturous end of the proud Aiel people. Her children were given the decision to go to war or not and took it. Her grandchildren knowingly misled the Queen of Andor into declaring war and breaking the Dragon's peace. How come she never considers not having children with Rand? I mean its not like she is already pregnant...I know it would be a sacrifice to not have children...but still...

I posted on a different thread and never received an answer so here it is: Created an account because Min's viewings in this thread made me think of something. RJ has been quoted saying Min's viewings are always about the future. As with the 7 towers and baby viewing with Lan, do you think her viewings could be a viewing of someone else's future viewing (Nyn's Accepted Viewings). We know her viewings always come true, but are they linear? Like if she had a viewing of Egwene getting behead say in EotW and it's just a viewing of Eg's having a dream of her getting beheaded. It would mean her viewing comes true it's just not IRL. I'm not sure if that has been discus…

Luckers is an admin on this site and it seems to me that he abused this privelege by setting forth, in public, a problem he has with a book writer. Luckers took a twitter post personally and used his site admin priveleges to air his anger. Not impressive. He then locked the thread once Mr Sanderson made clear the fact that his twitter comment wasn't aimed at Luckers. Luckers, either get some distance or take a holiday, or risk making further errors of diplomacy where your ego overpowers your objectivity. Your complaint reeked of someone trying to take advantage of their status as a consumer. Are you not aware that suppliers placate consumers? What pu…

the little piece of artwork at the beginning of each chapter - the dice for Mat's POV, the wolf for perrins, etc. Who decides what goes on each chapter? the publisher or the author? While re-reading something I dont recall which one - I was confused because i swear the art was the snake thing - which usually means BA or DF in the chapter, but it wasn't...or maybe it was and we werent told so and so is a DF....

Could somebody please explain why this is supposed to be funny? (X_x) Rand was telling the Far Dareis Mai a joke ch3, LoC: “An irascible old farmer named Hu discovered one morning that his best rooster had flown into a tall tree beside his farm pond and wouldn’t come down, so he went to his neighbor, Wil, and asked for help. The men had never gotten along, but Wil finally agreed, so the two men went to the pond and began climbing the tree, Hu first. They meant to frighten the rooster out, you see, but the bird only kept flying higher, branch by branch. Then, just as Hu and the rooster reached almost the very top of the tree, with Wil right behind, there was a loud cr…

Herid: @dragonmount Dragontmount is now a complete @BrandSanderson bashing ground. This is becoming unbearable. what happened? was not so last year Brandon: @heridfan It's unfortunate, but natural. I've grown popular enough that some people say my wot books are better than RJ's, which isn't tru @heridfan The hardcore fans then feel the need to point out the flaws in my efforts, and many things they say are true. So there we have it. Apparently we're reacting in a jealous rage to the suggestion that Brandon's books are better than RJ's. I'm so glad to finally have my reasoning explained to me. This from a man who hides himself from critiques wrapped in kiddy glo…

Who are the best fighters with the OP and TP among all the surviving characters both on the light side as well as the dark?.As a lot of LB will be fought with the power maybe this will give us a preview on who will tangle with who. My list 1) Rand & Moridin (If the fight was only with OP I would put Rand slightly ahead but with TP involved I think Ishy or Moridin has closed that gap) 3) Lanfear/Cyndane 4) Alivia 5) Demandred 6) Taim 7) Egwene 8) Logain 9) Nynaeve 10) Graendal

After smoking some tobac out on my porch today a question popped into my head. I wonder if Semirhage could ever detect DNA inside a persons cells? Or if Nyneave could learn this trick? So then I started to think of some of the possibilities that could open for the futer practiced Aes'Sedai. Maybe even find a way to lengthen the life of the everyday man who has never touched the One Power. Who knows your talking about DNA the genetic make-up of the human being. Another question that I would of asked Moridin is: Had he discovered atoms and the way they act? To basically developed an interpretation for Quantam Theory. This could explain how Traveling was first …

The visions Aviendha received near the end of ToM were easily the most disturbing chapters read in the entire series, essentially invalidating and cancelling out much of what the main characters have been fighting to preserve for 13 books now. The entire world successfully conquered by the Seanchan who eradicate several notable capital cities (like Cairhien), presumably tear down the White Tower + leash all remaining Aes Sedai, and drive the Aiel to extinction? This is what Rand and the other protagonists are fighting for? This is the glorious rule of a powerful and level-headed young Amyrlin we were promised, ending in destruction and enslavement? To save the world from …

Pretty self-explanatory. If anyone is interested, I made an argument here - Dark Prophecy FAQ - that it's Rand. I think I also added to that a little with a recent post. I think I included all the popular and not-so-popular candidates, but I think I can add other candidates after the poll is published if I forgot someone important, and I added an 'other' option just in case. (I think they get increasingly more ridiculous, but that's me.)

So to start off I have no idea whether this has been mentioned before. I only remember hearing about the two statue sa' angreal and callindor, but as I was re-reading the shadow rising, when Lanfear visits Rand's rooms in the stone of tear she mentions that she knows of only two sa' angreal more powerful than Callindor; so the statue and... what? I might just be not remembering something, as I read the series a little while ago, but I thought I would have remembered something like that, so correct me if I'm wrong, but was there another sa' angreal and is it important or mentioned again?

I have a problem with why does the dark one or ish or moridin want to stop the wheel and destroy everything. Shouldn't they want to just stop whatever movement or people are against them so that they may rule forever? Don't they want eternal life, not eternal death. That's what I am confused about. In other book series, the reasons for wanting destruction of all is given at some point, but in the WoT, i'm not clear on why the bad guys want the destruction. for example - the series with puck and the snake men, they wanted to destroy everything to get their god back or something to that effect, and it was clearly defined and rehashed 100x times per page. I…

Didn't she see a vision where successive generations of her descendants made it worse and worse for the Aiel until they were effectively destroyed? Why is she so anxious to find Rand and conceive with him? Wouldn't it be better to avoid the destruction of her people by going childless?

Hey doing a readthrough in preparation for MoL. At the end of EotW, Rand has just found out he can channel at Tarwin's Gap, and after he kills that Fade and Trolloc army.... The wind died. The screams died. The earth was still. Dust and smoke swirled back down the pass to surround him. "The Light blind you, Ba'alzamon! This has to end!" IT IS NOT HERE. It was not Rand's thought, making his skull vibrate. I WILL TAKE NO PART. ONLY THE CHOSEN ONE CAN DO WHAT MUST BE DONE, IF HE WILL. "Where?" He did not want to say it, but he could not stop himself. "Where?" The haze surrounding him parted, leaving a dome of clear, clean air ten spans high, walled by billowing …

Ok i looked (not to extensfully) but i did i swear and didn't see this topic else where. At the beginning of TGH Moiraine tells Suain that she was able to Contain Mat's curruption before it infected anyone else. What if she is wrong. Slowly building from TGH Rand starts to get suspicous of everyone else. He has a hard time trusting many good folk. So here is my thought/theory. It isn't Rand's taint that makes Rand that way but a little pin point of Shadar Logoth attached it shelf to Rand and slowly festered. Yes the taint might of been no help but couldn't that be a good reason?

How do you display your replicas? IE- the heron mark sword? I have been looking to get the sword for quite some time and am considering finally getting it in light of the final book being released. Id like to see how you display your replicas and books :) I am thinking of building a single wall mounted bookshelf to display the books with the sword mounted above/below/near or something...
