  1. So if I am proven right, I can gloat. I made this point before but no one believed me. Ill make it short and sweet. Just like with the taint, where he channeled the taint onsaidin into Shadar Logoth (sp) to cancel each other out, I believe he will do the same to the dark one. The creator (Saidar/Saidin) is Matter, the Dark One is Anti-matter. Somehow, he will channel the One Power (matter) into the Dark one (anti-matter) to cancel each other out. The result, no more creator, no more dark one. The wheel stops spinning, time is no longer circular, magic is gone, the world/existence will move on in a straight line, essentially just like our (real) …

  4. I read in another thread he is considered the current top master of the sword. Given all his other accomplishments - does he make "hero of horn" status? I am subliminally asking - if he dies, maybe Nyneave rips him out of the dream, not Rand.

Hey all, I wish I was good at making those youtube videos with the music. But, I was listening to some music and thought a couple songs would make good music for one of these about Rand Al'Thor. Feedback? Await lyrics, instrumental takes a little bit. Replace in your mind "medusa's eyes" with "the dark one's eyes": also this: Rayzor

I've been thinking, is it truly possible for Rand to completely clean Saidin? After all, once Rand grabbed a ton of Saidin, sent it through shadar logoth, the now-clean saidin would go back to the true source, with all the tainted saidin, and just mix with it. So, wouldn't there still be even a little bit of taint left? Thoughts?

One of the things that I've always wondered about in this series is the fact that just about everyone believes in the Wheel of Time. How would anyone know about it? If even the faintest memories of a given Age are long lost by the time it comes again, circular and linear time would look identical. How is it that the people of Randland know little of two Ages ago beyond garbled tales of the Cold War, and absolutely nothing of the Age before that, yet they are certain that seven Ages ago the world looked reasonably close to the present day? Was the Pattern itself examined in the Age of Legends and found to be weaving a wheel rather than a straight path?

It just struck me when I reread Winters Heart that the entire book lowballed the hell out of A'dam in order to let the Sea Folk escape. In the end of The Great Hunt, for example, Nynaeve comments about how Eqwene didn't try to escape, Eqwene explains how even after she figured out how to unclasp it yet touching the clasp with the intention of opening it forced her hand to knot up. Fast forward to chapter 31 of Winter's Heart and that apparently doesn't exist anymore. The Seanchan always felt way too perfect and indomitable in the first books anyways, but books 8-11 really do seem to undersell how insanely powerful A'dam were and tend to backtrack or ignore the pro…

So, in one of the interviews with Mr Jordan that somebody posted, he talks about how the main characters are an amalgamation of gods, not just one a piece. I've been trying to figure out how the fight at the Bore will go down. What we know, or think we know, is that Rand will have two women with him to help wield Callandor - Nynaeve has already been asked, I'm guessing Moiraine will be the other. Many others have guessed the same. Moridin has Cyndane and Moghedien wearing matching outfits with him and they're controlled by him with Mindtraps, so it's a reasonable assumption that these three will oppose Rand and his two. Hopefully, Rand, Nynaeve and Moiraine will w…

Hello again friends. Still finishing up my re-read and trying to time it so that I'm finishing up so it's all fresh in my mind when we get our hands on the last book in January. I was thinking about Moiraine and Lan. When she went to the docks to confront Lanfear and they went through the Ter'angreal together, her bond with Lan was broken. Lan says he can no longer feel her and tells Rand that he has to seek out his new Aes Sedai because the bond was to be passed on to another Aes Sedai if Moiraine fell and he could already feel his new mistress. This is where I've never been clear on why their bond was broken. Moiraine wasn't stilled. She didn't die. I doub…

  12. One of the big questions leading into aMoL is what Demandred has been up to. Most importantly, we're all curious to know what alter ego Demandred has adopted. Now, it has been made clear that there is such an alter ego. What this alter ego gets up to is almost certainly not the entirety of Demandred's actions in the past 13 books. By all accounts, what he has been up to is massively important. And given that he likes to work with proxies a lot, its very likely that Demandred has his fingers on many pies. Now, with respect to the alter ego, via some pretty solid elimination and fact checking, Roedran has emerged as a very strong candidate. In fact, he seems to be t…

  13. Let me try to draw Barid Bel Medar out of his tent with this post. (*wink* Barid..this one's for you) I'll try to make a case for the possibility of Demandred not just being overrated, but completely useless and unnecessary during the Last Battle. [Mik's Warp] - Demandred is completely useless and unnecessary 1. Thematic justice & the 'Chosen' pattern 2. Myrddraal abilities 3. Shai'tans Modus Operandi Thematic justice & the 'Chosen' pattern RJ is making it more obvious in each book; the Dark One views the ‘Chosen’ very much like how the ‘Chosen’ themselves view the rest of humanity. To the Dark One, they are worth less then dogs, mere …

I read somewhere recently that the concept of the Dreamspike and how it works is something that BS had to come up with; and also a suggestion that he wanted to feature Perrin prominently in ToM. Which suggests to me that the whole Perrin-Slayer-Graendal arc in ToM might have been something that BS came up with to fill a large gap. Perrin was behind in the timeline and needed to be caught up, and if BS wanted to bulk it up, then adding in a Forsaken-driven plot, that also involved Perrin's old nemesis Slayer, was a reasonable choice. (Although we can assume that RJ had always planned on Perrin's plotline converging with the Whitecloaks, as the wheels for those two groups t…

Hi, I've been a lurker here for years and usually can find answers to my questions by searching threads. If these questions have obvious answers or were answered elsewhere, my apologies. Why do characters keep associating 'breaking the seals' with 'freeing the Dark One'? Egwene went into this a little bit in AMoL ch1, but it seems she started making the same comparison, and I don't get the connection. Breaking the Seals should re-open the Bore, but the DO is still captured. The Bore was open all during the War of Power, which lasted for over a hundred years, and the DO wasn't running around free. Granted, he can have more influence on the world, but it seems no ma…

Theoretically, worst come to worst, Rand could seal away the DO right now. With Lews Therin's memories and guiding the Asha'man, he could simply recreate the 7 seals as he did 3000 years ago. Sealing away the DO, at least for another 3000+ years, is not the issue, its sealing the Bore without creating a new Taint. And to this I offer a possible solution that doesn't rely on Dues Ex Machina or sealing the DO with- the DO. Throughout the series we have read channelers being described as being a conduit; the term "channeler" itself implies this. When the One Power is used, the Power originates from the Source, passes through the channeler, and then manifests itself in a …

  17. So, the point of this is to generate some discussion on what Moiraine might have asked the Eelfinn for. We know that one of her requests was the strong angreal that she and Lanfear were struggling with when they entered Sindhol. The question is, what are the other two. We know, too, that Moiraine's recovery from Sindhol was absolutely vital to the Light's success. In that context, I have an idea about at least one of the requests she may have made. Often it is easier to solve a problem when you know a great deal about how the problem came to be. The whole world has a problem right now - the continued existence of the Bore. A knowledge about exactly how the Bo…

  18. Ok, so far I am on Book 8, and I still know very little about Perrin's ability to communicate with wolves. From what I've gathered there is only the one ability to communicate with wolves. Do you think it is possible that there are those who can speak with other animals? Such as lions, tigers and bears? Oh my, maybe even birds? We know the Dark one uses crows/ect, does he use them or do they heed his budding? I find it intriguing - and wonder what others think and how possible it might be.

  20. I think this is a fair question to ask - since RJ plotted out 3 "prequal" novellas (New Spring and two others...), and someone said BS will not do those for RJ. So will BS include any of that unknown prequal info in aMOL? I personally am thinking about Kari alThor and Tam's journeys. It may not have any importance to aMOL, but maybe yes? who knows...

Dumai's Wells was one time Perrin needed to be with Rand. Do you think that Perrin's visiting Dragonmount imn TAR during Rands intergration and internal battle with the Shadow was the other time?

  22. I believe it was in the seventh book, Crown of Swords, that Birgitte and Mat have this hilarious and wonderful rapport; even better than Rand has with Elayne, or Nynaeve with Lan. RJ loved to torment the men by having the women be a little too feisty for me to understand what made the men love them in the first place - please don't interpret this to mean I don't think women should be strong, I just mean there is so much conflict between Rand and Elayne, Rand and Avihenda, Perrin and Faile, etc. I find it hilarious and much like real life - Mat and Birgitte don't have an actual chance of romance together, so their relationship is care free and great, making me wish t…

Sorry if this has been discussed before. An AS or Ashaman bonded to the other (AS bonded to Asha and vice versa), if one is dark-sided 13x13 style, is the other affected? Are they turned, as well?

Hey so I have absolutely no knowledge of how publishing works, and I don't know what WOT higher-ups have said, but all of the early releases (prologue, Ch 1, Ch 11) have come very early. Also, doesn't it make sense to release the books in time for the holidays? Does anybody know if we're heading for a move-up in the release date of AMOL? What do you guys think?

  26. Started by FetFnask,

So, it's almost over, huh? I've been reading and discussing WoT since the early 90s and there are just a few months left to wait. A strange feeling indeed. Anyway, I have a... not theory, but an idea how Rand et al should/could reason regarding breaking the seals right away (or not). The way I see it we basically have two active decisions and one passive: Rand break the seals straight away before the war really breaks out (and goes to fight the DO). Rand break the seals after most of the war is over or at least at the last possible moment (and goes to fight the DO). Do nothing and wait and see what happens. Option three (3) seems stupid both from a drama…

So, the other thread about Rand's three wives and the basis in mythology got me thinking again about this and I thought I'd write a post with some fun speculation on the LB, drawn from Norse mythology. Warning-- long and full of wild speculation. I will post quotes from the Voluspa, the Norse poetic edda in which Ragnarok (Twilight of the Gods, or End of the Gods) is described, and then my thoughts or passages from WoT that I feel support a parallel. Fenrir is a monstrous wolf, the son of Loki. He was bound by the Gods using a silken ribbon which is stronger than anything created from six magical items (parallels the seven Seals and DO) , but Fenrir bit off …

I wanted to dedicate a post to the Band of the Red Hand. I love the parallelism that has happened with the Band. They rush into Caemlyn to protect the dragons, but they wind up spending their lives helping buy time for Caemlyn refugees to escape into the countryside. I imagine the band is mostly gone at this point - Talmanes rushed in to hold gates and get the dragons, he wouldn't have held much back (except maybe 1/4 for protect the flanks). And even after felling the walls at the end, they are still being rushed and harried by hordes of trollocs. To me though, it was the perfect "end" to the Band. They died rushing in to protect refugees trying to escape a troll…
