  1. I’m curious in so many ways how the OG fans who had to wait for books experienced the series. I read them all back to back and am now rereading and catching so much that I missed, but I never have had time to theorize and contemplate because I was able to devour without pause. I just reread the part in ACOS about the watcher and the introduction of moridin and it made me wonder if the OG fans knew who he was right away or if the reveal was a surprise? Additionally , was the OC community surprised by anything that played out or did you all hypothesize and theorize most of the major plot points?

After rousing a rebellion in Tarabon, Rodel Ituralde lures the Seanchan into Arad Doman, where he has set a trap for them. He waits for them at Darluna, a walled town that at first sight looks undefended, but the "Wolf" always has a trick under his sleeve... https://youtu.be/oY0duCbQuuE

  3. So I have been rereading the books and, for obvious reasons, find myself picking apart each scene in terms of its overall narrative importance for the tv show, and there is one that initially I thought was really key, but, re reading further I now find myself wondering. The scenes where Nyn and Egwene step into the silver arches are told really well. The scenes are emotive and you feel what the characters are going through in the moment. But, I am struggling to see how they really have any impact beyond the immediate aftermath. Neither character is drastically changed long term by the events. Egwenes visions all revolve around her love of Rand and yet, within a …

  4. So I haven't seen a thread on this topic, but I was wondering about readers' opinions. I don't have either of these reference works, but I do have the entire series (including New Spring). Which do people think is most worthwhile, or is it worth getting both?

Just heard of it. Is it good, is it necessary for understanding wheel of time series? Might get the ebook unfettered.

  6. I am currently taking a class in Latin and recently we have been focusing on Cultural such as names and gods. Something I noticed was the original names for the Forsaken, such as Asmodean, Lanfear or Grendel have 3 names. But it seems the third name is like the Roman Cognomen which is a name after the last which is a descriptive name. While in the Age of Legends these third names are awarded for special achievements or special recognition. Another thing I have noticed is how Tuon’s full name is almost the same as the Roman Goddess of Fortune, Fortuna. The final thing I noticed was in TGH (I think) when Rand and friends went to the Cairhien dance, the clothing and hair was…

  7. I've been toying with the idea of creating a game (or rather a visual novel) based on the series and I was wondering some things. I suppose the first question would be; Can I? For example, it would be based in a PSW and all the characters' names would be changed, of course. I wanted to base it on a character I've used for years in various roleplay settings, although that itself is based on a couple of the names from the actual series kind of. Toram Eldin. Toram Riatin is where I got the first name, and the Eldin part was from a couple of people from Emond's field. I wouldn't be selling it at all, merely accepting donations and the like on patreon or some othe…

  8. Started by WTES,

Introduction The metaphysical nature of Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time (WOT) is quite complex and has a number of apparently paradoxical properties. In this essay, I present a self-consistent theory of WOT metaphysics that not only resolves these paradoxes but also sheds new light on other aspects of WOT lore. I argue that the destruction of the Pattern is an inevitable consequence of the Creator’s grand design, which encompasses an infinite series of Patterns, each with its own copy of the Dark One (DO). Time in WOT is linear for a single universe (WOT-U), but cyclic at the level of the multiverse (WOT-M) that contains all turnings of the Wheel. …

  9. Thanks to Bing chat, we now have summaries of those books that I have been dying to know more about since I read this series many, many years ago. Now I want to read them even more... Reality and the Absence of Meaning In this book, Elan Morin argues that reality is a meaningless and chaotic phenomenon, that is constantly shaped and reshaped by the One Power, a force that emanates from the Creator and the Dark One. He claims that the One Power is not a benevolent or malevolent force, but rather a blind and indifferent one, that does not care about the fate of the living beings that use it or are affected by it. He also asserts that th…

  10. I’ve read the whole series once and currently on my first reread. On LOC now and a couple of things I have questions about. Do we know who killed the tinkers found by mats band and do we know who attempted to kill mat? Also do we know who is behind sending the “supposed aiel” to attack damira of the salidar emissary implicating Rand was behind it?

  11. In EotW and tGH we learn that the Ways were set up by the few male Aes Sedai who reached the refuge of the steddings before they went mad, and so were able to survive while the rest of the male Aes Sedai went mad and Broke the World. They made the Ways from their understanding of the Many Worlds Theory, which in this case was already proven. In the EotW and tGH, we also learn that the Ogier were exiled from the steddings and had to wander until they found them again. This set the Longing in their souls, and in WoT, they can no longer spend time freely whenever whereever; they are tied to the steddings. In tDR, we see through Rand's Da'shain ancestors the pitif…

  12. In the final couple of books we see a different sort of bond with ashaman and aes sedai where they seem to become telepathic. Was this some sort of fluke that only happened in one case? Because Rand and Alanna didn’t show signs of telepathy, and I don’t recall any evidence of it when he bonded his ladies who could channel. I’m only on my first reread and my initial read through was a little while back, so it may be simply bad recollection or understanding on my part.

  13. So generally, when we hear about OP-forged weapons, they never go dull, never rust, are almost unbreakable. Perrin's hammer goes beyond this and not only burns shadowspawn (trollocs at least), but it can permanantly kill a darkhound. My question is, why? 1) Was it the sheer amount of power poured into it by Neald and the circle? 1a) Was it just the extra power from the circle or did the Saidar/Saidin combo do it? 1b) Does this mean that if Neald had just continued on his own then it would have been a "run-of-the-mill" power wrought weapon? or 2) Did Neald develop an entirely new way to imbue a weapon with the OP? Something tickles the back of…

One of the interesting things about the POV system is that certain characters are referred to by different names based on what POV they are in. Faile, for instance, is called Zarine early on, but after book 4 pretty much is never called Zarine again except when she meets her parents. Many characters that have multiple names or who get reincarnated or disguised are referred to by different names at different times. Lanfear is called Cyndane for a while, but at the end of AMoL, she is still referred to as Lanfear. Zen Rand calls Morridin Elan since presumably that was how they met. Dark Rand, in his mindset of seeing the Ashaman as tools, refe…

Just finished probably my 15th re-read of WOT and as always, leaves me feeling a bit bereft at the end. I normally look to run through a couple of new series straight after and I’m looking for any recommendations. Ones I can remember I’ve completed are - all of the Mark Chadbourn books - Mistborn - assassins apprentice I like a series with a consistent in-world rule-set and with some jeopardy to the whole thing. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

  18. One of the things that most bothered me about the wheel of time books was that all of the characters acted like it was the men’s fault that the Breaking happened. Yes, it was the men that did it, but it wasn’t their fault. They were insane. The Aes Sedai dismiss this as being because of the strike at Shayol Ghul, but LTT and the Companions had to do something. The choedan kal were stolen, and the female AS still would not give in. And yet almost everyone in the WoT seems to still blame the male AS. Does anyone know why?

  19. Started by Tigara,

I'm not sure if anyone has decided on this, but I think I figured out why there is a power difference between Lanfear and Cyndane. My theory is that Lanfear was stilled before she died, so she had to be placed in the body of a weaker channeler to be able to channel again. It would explain why Cyndane is much weaker in the OP than Lanfear.

So rereading The Great Hunt. In the part where Verin asks Rand to pick a symbol and use the Portal Stone to port them to Toman Head, she states there have been theories of worlds where reality is barely held together, air is not breathable, etc. And yet Verin urges the Dragon Reborn to risk killing them all to retrieve the Horn. I don't know that I'm confident in feeling Verin thought the risk minimal, and worth it to take them all to Toman Head. I would be concerned that it would be much more safe to risk travelling there on foot. The risk to this path was that Fain would not be there, or would think they were not coming, making him torment the two-rivers in …

Unlike other tinfoil theories I have had, this one is not mine, but of my friend, who loves connecting religion and myth to Wheel of Time in more direct ways: example, they also had a theory Perrin and Mat are literal incarnations of Thor and Loki. I had asked them if I could share their theory of Rand (or, more correctly, Dragon) = Adam (with my added flavors to them) and they agreed. The theory basically goes like this: taking the standard Abrahamic story of humans, angelic fall and similar, Adam and Eve where first humans or at leaders of early humanity. Creator is more active and Shai'tan, obviously, is the angel who rebelled (so...a bit nerfed and inconsisten…

  24. I started the wheel of time series over half a year ago and am just now finishing it On 10/24/2022 And i will say this the ending is as mat Cauthon would say a gamble. It made me want to laugh and cry at the same time and im going to be honest i fell a little bit depressed. I always knew the series would end but back when i was on like the second book i thought it would last forever. I have now finished all fourteen books and own them and am now feeling melancholy. the only book i have left of this series is a new spring showing moraines time learning to be aes sedai in the white tower. I can say from experience that rand al thor does indeed survive sealing away the dark …

  25. I am almost finished with book seven right now, and was shocked when Nyneave Healed Logain, Siuan, and Leane. She speaks of being able to feel an absence, or a hole. This made me wonder, could she make people able to channel who could not before? The same hole, would be there, it would just be harder to find because they had never channeled. Am I correct about this or completely wrong?

Just re read FoH and back onto Lord of Chaos and having a moment. I know Moghedien joins Nyn and Elayne on the boat pretending to be a refugee, Marigan, and I know Nyn works out she is in Salidar and travelled with them based on the things she lets slip. But I am having a moment. you don’t see her get collared in the real world so are we meant to guess that Nyn and Elayne went to all 3 women to work out which one was Moghedien, or did she specifically already know which it was based on the fact that Faolin had taken the other 2 women to be tested first?

Just re reading the books after a long break and something in the shadow rises is bothering me. Morraine is trying to persuade Rand to attack Illian, but he waits in tear until an attack and then decides to go with the Aiel to the 3 fold land, why? Is it ever explained why he makes this decision other than “I must do what they least expect”. I am struggling to understand the motivation, at that moment the role of the Aiel was not understood, they did not tell him to go and Morraine did not tell him about the letter.

  28. We learn, when Olver blows the horn, that Jain is bound to the Horn as one of the hero’s. Is this Jains first time, did his actions in WOT deem him worthy of being bound, or, has it been confirmed, if Jain has, like other hero’s, been reborn over and over previously?
