  1. This from Brandon's blog: Also at Dragon*Con I read a new excerpt from A MEMORY OF LIGHT. There will probably be three excerpts released after this, before the book comes out. I'm guessing they'll arrive in October/November, but I don't know for sure. As with previous volumes, the prologue will be released as an ebook. Tor.com will likely put up the full text of chapter one, and chapter two will probably go up in the audio form. The three segments that have been released so far, you can read on Tor.com now: the first scene of the prologue, a short clip from chapter one, and a scene from chapter eleven. You don't have to worry about the chapter eleven scene spoiling an…

So i am going through my re-read for the final book(and of course can not put it down as always), and my excitement is just mounting and mounting. Been reading the books since 97, and sometimes i just cant sleep. This series has been such a big part of my life(am 29), that its just sureal that it is almost over with. I assume their are many of the same feelings as mine, and just wanted to throw out their how excited i truly am and grateful to be a part of this fantastic series.

  3. Started by Zorlon,

They came to Randland from another world. They must have had a reason. I can only imagine they were fleeing something, or were pioneers. Thoughts? Also, do you imagine their homeworld's Wheel revolves in sync with Randland? Seems like it must if they keep showing in every second Age. Edit: Anyway to edit the title? That should be "Settlers or refugees?" Sorry for the glaring typo.

  4. While I know RJ mixed and matched to make the nations their own, I still think a lot of them line up really well with real world nations. Here is an initial list I came up with: Andor = England Cairhein = France (shorter, never seem able to defend their city) Tear = Spain (Darker skinned, coastal country, oiled pointy beards) Tarabon = Persia (Style of dress, veils) Illian = Not sure. maybe Itally Mayene = Manaco (Small city-state, surrounded by much bigger country) Aiel = Scandanavian physically, American indian culturally. There are others, and would like to hear how correct or off you guys think I am.

  5. I imagine Mordeth as the intended enemy for the world of the books. When I first read through the books I imagined the DO to be an intruding outside force that was never intended to be there, and Mordeth's power as what was intended to play the role of Big Bad through the ages. Hence the Forsaken calling it "an old enemy, an old friend" Enemy because both Evils are vying for the same position(and may occasionally work together), friend because they're both working for Evil purposes. Elan's musings about Sha'rah left me with the impression the Wheel was set up to interact with the DO, and designed around his continuous intrusions like a game board between the D…

I am reading The Great Hunt for the 5th time and for the first time had a different thought on the scene where Rand first meets the Amyrlin Seat and Moiraine and Verin are in the room also. After Rand leaves, Verin is sweating and comments that Rand was stronger than she thought he would be and the three Aes Sedai are talking about hating what they just did but accepting it was necessary. We know Verin can use compulsion and the a strong willed person can overcome compulsion. It seems to me that Verin used some sort of compulsion on Rand but found it to be more difficult than she thought it would be. Am I reading too much into this? Has this already been discussed an…

Just a quick question. I searched and couldn't find anything, so I was wondering if you guys can help me. There are a couple of times in the books when Elayne tells Birgitte to do something, and Birgitte will blush and obey without question. Elayne always wonders what she did, or how she acted, to make Birgitte obey. Err, it always seemed to me that Birigitte obeyed when Elayne was holding the power. So does it basically mean that when Elayne is holding the power Birgitte has some sort of compulsion on her? Just wondering if this has been talked about, because I always wondered if what I saw was correct. Thanks!

  9. Soo, how many of you think this will happen? is it possible Mat will get a portal to Ebou Dar in time to stop it? Who knows, maybe the forces sitting at the FoM, will all get portalled all the way to Tar Valon and stomp on the Seanchan. Its going to be very interesting to see whether the white tower would be able to hold up... Im interested to see whether Aviendha can persuade Rand to do something about the captured wise ones as well, something to do with Kneeling in exchange perhaps? Something has to be done about the Seanchan, even if they simply exterminate every one of them they can find which is the simplest solution tbh. between Ashaman, Wise Ones, Windfinde…

In Moiraine's letter to Rand she specifically tells him to be wary of Verin and Alviarin. Does she know they are black ajah? Seems like she must suspect something to mentioned them both by name. Of course she does tell him not to trust any Aes Sedai.

  11. Hey guys..never posted here so be gentle:). Starting my first re read of the series and noticed something..(probably reading too much into it, but was curious). When Tam and Rand first arrive in Edmond's field, the adults(bran, tam, and cenn) were talking. Right after tam gets upset about Cenn talking nonsence as usual, Bran made a comment as Cenn was walking away. Not verbatim, but close enough.."sometimes I wonder if Nyneave was right about......." and the the conversation switches to Mat and Rand Is this some sort of foreshadowing that i am just not seeing? or am i just reading too much into it? Thanks folks:)

I randomly thought of this in another thread, and it would actually solve a lot of problems: Rand can leave with them, which gives him a way to leave the world without dying a second time. We get an explanation for why there are no Aeil in 2012, that doesn't require them to die off. (From a storytelling perspective, why should we care about subverting Aviendha's viewing if the Aeil are doomed anyway?) We get an explanation for how the Aeil showed up in the AoL, that doesn't require a eugenics movement run by pacifists obcessed with red hair. It helps explain where they develop their talent for Seed Singing, if they spent many Ages in the Ogier world. So Aviendha's …

Just a quick one here. Considering Moiraine's reaction to the man who said she was not the one he was looking for in the ToG, are we all certain that it was Moridin? In a lot of ways Moridin makes the most sense. However, when Moiraine thinks of this man she shivers. There is one character who we see referred to as cold on a number of occasions and who we have also seen entering the tower, albeit in T'a'R - Slayer. Perrin describes him as having a cold smell, almost as of stone. He may not have the savour that the Finns so enjoy. If Moridin entered through Tear, he would have been able to get three answers but not be given three gifts, so why would the Finn allo…

  15. With this thread I am hoping to compile a list of things that main characters are not aware of - but should be - at this stage in the series. By this I mean things of which other characters and the reader are aware. The primary example of this is Elayne's pregnancy. It would seem like the entirety of Caemlyn, as well as half the main cast, knows that Elayne is in the family way. It would be a pretty straight forward assumption that the daddy-to-be will find out in AMoL. I wonder what Rand's reaction shall be, but that is a diverging topic. So can anyone think of other examples of known information that is not available to a main character but would be important f…

Or maybe just the ousting of Taim, but I wanted a title with some oomph. ;D Ok, so I've always thought Logain would be the one to out Taim, and kill him. I think most people do. Between Logain's muttering's about Taim and his glory to come it seemed very, very likely. I'm now wondering if it was too likely. If, in fact, Logain was a red herring, much like the BA Hunters were for Verin. Here is my reasoning. Elaida's Foretelling; the Idiot Savant Ok, so here is Elaida's Foretelling on the subject of the Black Tower, amongst other things. No, Elaida's interpretation of this was that the White Tower would be whole under her, the rebel leaders cast…

Finished my first reread of LoC in years last night. I'm sure this has been discussed before but - Were Taim and a few of the Ashaman the ones who stabbed the Aes Sedai in Caemlyn (name starts with a D. She was part of the group from Salidar)? Was Taim under orders from Demandred to do this - or something like it - to drive Rand to Cairhien where he could be put in the box so that Taim could come and rescue Rand later? Thank you.

Just finished re-reading aCoS. Best Scene: Tie. Getting the bowl of the winds in the Rahad AND Shaido getting dropped right in front of Rand's army. Worst Scene: None come to mind. Most Intriguing Development: The introduction of Moridin/Watcher/Wanderer. Most Disapointing Development: Sammael getting killed by Mashadar in SL. Just felt like a cop out plotwise. Things I had forgotten: A wall falling on Mat in Ebou Dar while he was looking for Olver. Anyone else at this point in their pre-aMoL reread?

I've been thinking about the plot lines AMOL will cover/resolve and started wondering what part these two will play in the last book. Hanlon still has the duplicate medallion, and Shiaine seems pretty high ranking among dark friends. I assume they are probably still in camelyn since they seemed aware of the impending attack, but I was wondering what you guys thought, will this get resolved in amol or is it one of those plot lines that isn't wrapped up?

Let's pretend I'm a full blown Ashaman wandering the countryside looking to help the helpless and right the wrongs. If I go an open a waygate, and then set up a Travelling Gate right smug against the waygate opening... would Machin Shin enter the Travelling thing and die (possibly?). Things of the Shadow can not enter a travelling gate or a death gate...but machin shin is not quite of the shadow... Now that makes me wonder, can Fain enter a death gate? thanks for your feedback.

Starting this out with a quote The initial purpose of this isn't entirely to debate Moriaine's other two demands, but I don't dare knock it, if you have good ideas, throw them out here. My main speculation is more concerning this portion: both of course means Moiraine and Lanfear, so what did Lanfear ask for. It apparently wouldn't matter, because she soon dies and becomes soultrapped. If she actually died. I'd say it was entirely possible, given her age, to muse that she may have been to finland before, as Moiraine had, and given a glimpse at the possibility of this fate. Could it be a stretch then, to assume that she would take preventative me…

  22. Ok so I know that the horn is linked with somebody until they die, so my question is since mat died twice is he still technically linked with it? I know that Rahvin was balefired and mat came back from being dead. Is there any chance that he could have lost the connection or does it really not matter?

  23. This has been bugging me since book six. What has Demandred done to fufill this request by the DO. What could he have been balefiring? I have racked me brain, but have come up with no answers. I have considered may options but nothing resonates for me. I have been trying to think around corners... what could be balefired that would cause food to spoil? What could be balefired to cause the floorplans of palaces to change? What could be balefired to make the seasons go wacky (THAT is believed to be the DO's doing, but what if not?). Balefire is the most powerful and destructive use of the OP, and to my knowledge, it only removes, or subtracts things from the pat…

Jordan loved to foreshadow in very subtle was. A great example is the conversation between Perrin and Bashere, about how if Bashere took Faile away, he would take her back. and Bashere Comments that Perrin would take her out of an army camp (Perrin rescuing Faile from the Aiel). One of the many comments throughout the series is about Faile continuing on after Perrin Dies. There are quotes of her saying that she will carry his banner even after he dies. There is the Two Rivers arguments about how she won't let him die. Namely Perrin muses about his own death quite a lot. So will Perrin die?

So, I have seen very little discussion concerning tinkers. They have been largely ignored for the majority of the later books. However, what will they be doing for the last battle? I am fairly certain I read somewhere that they were gathering. My speculation is that the armies will be losing and the Tinkers will learn the song. Then it's like a power boost. The armies of light wil kick ass. Any other thoughts?

I always wondered what would have happened if Elaida had successfully brought Rand to the WT. Would DO's victory been inevitable? Perhaps not. Why did Taim come to Rand's aid? If he is a darkfriend/dreadlord as the evidence suggests, the orders would've come from the DO. So it makes me wonder if the world would've been less chaotic if Rand had been imprisoned for a substantial amount of time. Seanchan would likely have invaded Illian, Arad Doman, and Tear, possibly Cairhein too. Armed with Seanchan's military might, Randland would've stood more united and more of a threat in time for TG. As for Rand, being held captive at the WT/by AS has always been one of his bigg…

  27. It just seems awkward to me that we get what SHOULD be a fairly epic Battle in its own right beginning at the start of the last book. I read that Brandon was quoted as saying that the last book was ''a lot of Battles'' but I always felt like the last book/AMOL should be all about ONE Battle: Tarmon Gaidon. From a storyline point of view as well it just FEELS like the Battle of Camelyn should have taken place a few books EARLIER. Almost like the BOC is LATE. And only being covered becuase Team Jordan realized they ''had'' to fit it in. Just seems like RJ meant it to be earlier. Also worries me that if you really do it justice...then how awesome are you really capab…

Some people seem to have criticisms about the Final Battle starting at Caemlyn; not enough important characters, nothing of importance there but the dragons, etc. So, what sort of sacrifices would make you happy. Who needs to die? How? What needs to be destroyed? AND, do you think of any of what you want dead or destroyed actually will be?

So how badass do you think Rand will be now that he has all of LTT memories, when it comes to the sword forms and sword play. After it was stated in the prologe of the eye of the world that him and ishmael had started with swords for sport way back in the day. not sure if that is correct or not ,pretty sure it is. Then as LTT being close to 500 years old before he offs himself, he had all the time in the world to hone his sword skills, so i am making the assumption that he was pretty good with a sword. So do you all think that he wont need to relearn any type of sword play now having all of the memories of the past. I think he will be one sword swining mofo

  30. Alviarin, leader of the Black Ajah, and arguably one of the more interesting antagonists of Wheel of Time, essentially exited the plot not with a bang, but with a whimp. She's not dead yet, and will certainly have a role to play in AMoL, but her time in the White Tower is pretty much over. Everyone knows who she is, the Black Ajah has been ousted, whether she has any real authority left is anyone's guess, but ultimately she will try to do what the Forsaken order her to do, fail, and get killed off. Her storyline reached its climax in CoT. Three things happen in the chapter, neither of which has any further bearing on the plot. She gets what she's been yearning for…
