I'm putting together an activity for Dragon*Con and I don't have time to go wading through seven thousand pages of forum discussion. What are some of the questions that we have at the end of TOM? It can big stuff like "Who is Demandred?" to smaller stuff like "Will Rand and Galad ever met and talk about Tigraine?" Help me refresh my memory on some of this stuff, because my head is so full of grad school I can't even think of what happened in the last book right now. And for the love of god, just list questions and some likely answers. Don't go crazy with evidence or arguing. I know that's asking a lot of some of you.

Rand, Mat, and Perrin each spend different books in the lead role. Although it would seem Rand is the main hero of the story (and indeed, he is), the other two are equally critical to the plot and take up an almost equal amount of screen (well book) time. So in a way, they're all three the main protagonist. Rand's duty and purpose is just the greatest. Which one is your favorite to read? Who has the best parts? What are those parts? Who's best in which book? My favorite is Rand, although i really like Mat. Perrin has a couple good books, but he gets really dull after he meets Faile and after he saves the Two Rivers. He's my least favorite. By book (with rankin…

The overhead spikes in the path to shayol ghul is referenced alot throughout the book but i never noticed until now in my last reread before AMOL. In LOC Demandred describes the spikes of being higher up before he could barely touch them but now they were far above his head. Then a few chapters later messana is doing the journey and describes the spikes to be scarping her hair and she is much shorter then Demandred. Do you think this has any significance?

Hello i have a few questions about Jain farstrider and your thoughts on his character. In book 2 ishammael said he was the one that led jain far strider into the steddings but doesnt elaborate any idea what could be the point of telling us this? Also i searched but couldnt see anything related to how Jain betrayed the malkier but what could his message to mat be saying tell a malkier that jain farstrider died clean? Which could also be foreshadowing that Lan will live cause mat will deliver the message to him.

My best friend and I had an interesting discussion this weekend that centered around the Forsaken and their reasoning’s for going over to the Shadow, as well as other’s Black Ajah and Dark Friends. I actually have no earthly idea how it started, but I am of the opinion that going over to the Shadow for immortality for a channeler was stupid. I mean, is 600-700 years not enough? I’d think after all that time you would be able to die peacefully, especially with the rebirth thing being fact. My friend said he would have went over for immorality too, and taken over the world *queue evil laugher*. He also said it’s a better reason than Asmodean, and his going over “For the mus…

I began transcribing the LibertyCon aMoL pannel, but Jenn informed me that there would be clearer audio coming so I stopped. In the mean time, apparently I scare Brandon when it comes to Cadsuane... lol. Jenn: … is all like, what did you do, Brandon? Brandon: Yes! ‘Brandon, why did you kill…’ Jenn: You killed Cadsuane, what’s wrong with you? Joe: I would congratulate him for that one. Brandon: I… ah… Luckers would just murder me. Jenn: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah he would. Brandon: He already is ready to murder me, because I don’t treat Cadsuane with the respect he… um… thinks I need to treat Cadsuane. There may be a legitimate gripe there. I don’t know…

  8. Hello, all. I have a question that came to mind that I thought was worth discussion: What character(s) if any in WOT are Leeroy Jenkins character types or have had Leeroy Jenkins type moments? For the most part these characters seem to make a plan and stick to it. Any thoughts? For those of you not familiar with the reference: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leeroy_Jenkins

Can the Pattern be seen? I ask because people in the AoL had issues with the placement of the seals. They were worried that if the seals werent placed exactly then the pattern could tear apart. How would you know where the seals need to be placed?

  10. Having read the series through three times, and the first five about six or seven I pick up some stuff, but also miss a lot. I am currently listening through them and find stuff seems to come out more. Through the first seven so far, I have noticed just how arrogant Nynaeve is. She is truly comptempous of most men, if not all, except Lan. She truly sees herself better than almost anyone. She loathes taking orders, and having to do what is needed, unless it how she wants to do. Her view is truly staggering, yes some think they are right,a nd sometimes are. But, she simply thinks only she is correct no matter the situation. Hers and Elayne's and the other Aes Sedai's…

Sally Rides, the first American woman in space lost her battle with cancer yesterday, leaving behind her partner Dr. Tam E. O'Shaughnessy. Sally's achievements were something Robert Jordan recognized in the Eye of the World, were one of the stories that lingers from our Age in the Third is that of Salya. That her partners name is Tam is a coincidence, given their relationship was not public knowledge due to Sally's desire to keep her sexuality private, but it is a nice coincidence--at least, and with due respect, I thought it so. In any case Sally's achievements were great, and I'm not at all surprised that Jim thought them the sort of thing that would linger thr…

So how do you expect the final book to play out, chapter-by-chapter pretty much. For instance: Chapter 1 - rand pov Chapter 2 - rand pov so on and so on, and where and at what points certain things will happen (for instance) Chapter 36 - Demandred dies or something like that.

I have read on other theories about the idea of after the last battle that there is a possibility of the One Power being destroyed. Personally I dont like the idea but that is not to say that it wont happen. In fact I think there is plenty of evidence that hints of this happening. In KOD c23 Romanda is thinking about how the wards for keeping are failing. She actually states that it is as if the One Power is failing!!! Now when checking with the WOT encyclopaedia this is believed to be evidence of the last battle approaching, but what if she is spot on the money??? Think what a world without the One Power would be like post TG. Without the power the Seanchan are no …

First off, I'm new to the site and am a big fan of the Wheel of Time books as well as my father, who got me into the series originally. I was talking to him earlier today and we wound up talking about how the jackets for hardback books always managed to get messed up in one way or another, no matter how hard someone tries to keep it mint... unless they just don't read it, or take the jacket off. During this, my dad mentioned that he would pay to have the entire series bound in leather... and it made me want this as well. My question to everyone here is: If they made a matchset of the books with every one of them bound in leather, would you buy it?

  15. look at it. He's fought the dragon an infinite number of times in the past and will fight him an infinite amount of times in the future. And how many times has he won? Zero. If thats the case the chances of him breaking free in any one age is tiny. Theres still the danger of the world breaking and civilisation collapsing. But thats about it in most ages.

  16. If anyone wants to make corrections, that would be appreciated. Deadsy, Terez and I transcribed it, but we couldn't get a couple of spots no matter how we tried. ________________________________________ The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning. Eastward the wind blew, desc…

It was mildly amusing reading how each of the 3 ta'veren think the other two know how to deal with women. Who do you think is the best at dealing with women, romantically and non-romantically? And why? Have fun! I voted for Mat and will explain more reasons later. But one of the main reasons is how he handled the explosive mixture of women over a period of two months during his escape from Ebou Dar. He had Seanchan sul'dam, Tuon, Aes Sedai, Leilwin, Aludra, and the rest of the women. And he managed to make it to Andor without major confrontations that hindered his plan. And his courtship with Tuon is just a great and wonderful reading. (I read it twice over t…

  18. When Gawyn defeats the Bloodknives, he keeps their rings and puts them on a chain around his neck. Assuming he figures out their purpose, could he use them to gain a momentary surge in power? We know that the use of these rings sucks the life force of those who wear it, but Gawyn is bonded to Egwene. I think that Gawyn could be kept alive through the strength he receives through the Warder Bond while benefiting from the use of the rings. If he did so, would that suck the life force of Egwene, or would her ability to channel constantly refresh Gawyn's life force and allow him to use the rings without penalty? In my mind, the Warder Bond should allow him to use the ring…

Forgive me if this has been suggested before. It was clear to me when I first read ToM what the solution to the Aiel problem is. As I see it, the situation (the Seanchan conquering everyone) is caused by the confluence of several things. There are two main ones, which are : 1. The Aiel are excluded from the peace. 2. There is no mechanism for enforcing the peace and punishing those who break it. In addition, there are a few minors one, among them: 3. The Aiel only know war. 4. The Aiel only know how to get honor through fighting. The solution should be painfully obvious: Make the Aiel in charge of enforcing the Dragon's peace. This would also mak…

All, I got industrious yesterday and decided to bring a little color and my favorite book series into the living room. Unfortunately I discovered that there are no art prints of the cover art. At least I wasn't able to find any. After searching I did find enough images to come up with an alternate method. After powering up the photo printer and getting about $60 worth of frames from Michael's I put the following together. Later today I'll actually hang it up on the wall. http://www.flickr.co...N00/7614803214/

That I would love SO much.I started WOT on a whim 12 years or so ago and really fell for it.I am now re-reading the series and am at LOC.Anyway.Here are two articles about a major movie company buying the movie rights for Wheel of Time. Do you think any director can do this series justice? Both articles mention a "seven firgure deal" I don't think this could be told in any less then seven 4 hour movies, and even if that were done the amount of plot that would have to be abrigged…

Many WoT readers will have heard about the Battle of Camlann in which the legendary King Arthur was mortally wounded by his nephew and illegitimate son by his half-sister Morgause, Mordred. With the numerous Arthurian parallels in WoT, there is an obvious connection with Caemlyn, especially with a Trolloc incursion apparently in progress. However, this connection is unlikely to be a carbon copy. RJ didn't build his story out of whole chunks of legend; he took elements of various cultural legends from many countries and combined them to produce new characters and situations. Thus, Rand has elements of Tyr, Arthur, and general saviour-figures; Mat is a blend of Odin…

  24. I've been struggling with this question for a while. Assuming the Dark One's ultimate goal is to destroy the Pattern and knowing that Moridin eagerly awaits this end (he laughs joyfully when he tells Rand that this is the Dark One's goal in Chapter 15, I believe, of TGS), why doesn't the Dark One give Moridin access to enough True Power to unravel the Pattern? If Rand can draw enough One Power through the Choedan Kal to do this and, theoretically the amount of True Power is approximately equivalent to that of the One Power and the only limit to how much one can draw is what the Dark One allows, I see no real reason why this would not have happened already. Could anyone he…

Ok, so we know that according to Min’s viewing that Rand is doomed to fail in the last battle if he does not have “a woman dead and gone”. We knew that this was referring to Moiraine and at the time was a hint that she still lived just waiting on Matt, Thom and Noel to rescue her. Now that she has been rescued what role do you think she will have in the last battle??? Do you think it will have anything to do with the angreal she got from the Tower of Ghenjei, or will it have something to do with the remaining to demands from the Finn’s?

Appologies if this has been asked. But, what would be your biggest disappointment in AMoL if you didn't get to see or find out something? For me it would be no Mat and Tuon reuinion.

Hi here i am going to state my theories and try to proivde answers to anyquestions you may ask of me i will post more soon but first anyone else still wondering what rand's third question was after stepping through the arch in tear I believe it was how he could avoid a second breaking and the answer was that he needed to create the schools which he sets up in Cariahen and Andor More later enjoy that tell me your thoughts bye

  29. 17 years ago when I first started reading the series in 6th grade, I didn't have access to book 1, so I start with tGH. I had a friend to fill in some holes for me story wise when I had questions, but really I didn't get to read book one until after I'd finish tDR. Then I missed tSR and had to skip to tFoH, and finished LoC before reading book 4. It was a mess, but the characters and story had me hooked. So my question is this: which book in the series could you NOT imagine missing? OF course all are crucial, if you had to nominate one book that kinda helped define, turn, develop or entangle the series for you the most, which would it be? I'm nominating tSR (book …
