Im pretty new here and im attempting to get to know folks better. I hope to eventually join more than the two groups I have applied for. I have entered the chat room on multiple occasions, but its always empty :( I feel its a good way to get to know people without having to go and find posts to post in. This is just a idea, and I am just trying to help. But I used to be a avid video gamer and the team I was on had their own forums. They had a chat room on the main page above all the links. So even if people wanted to relax and have a good time with the people who are on the site currently. I feel it will help people in each social group be able to communica…

Hey all, I usually don't drift outta the theory vaults, but I thought i'd start a topic here. What is, in your opinion, the most heart breaking moment in any book you have ever read. Any genre. ------------------HOKAY GAIS. SPOILERS WILL HAPPEN HERE--------------------------------------------- ----------Don't read this thread unless you've read every single book evar------------------------------ Personally, I was big into the Sword of Truth books, but they weren't so much heartbreaking as just uncomfortable. We all know that feeling, Dumai's wells or The Last that Could Be Done from WoT. That type of feeling. Although those books took that uncomf…

A little surprised to see no discussion of this series, given its growing popularity and that there are some fans around on the board. A description of the series for those unfamiliar with it: The Malazan Book of the Fallen, by Canadian authors Steven Erikson and Ian Cameron Esslemont, is an epic fantasy saga which, very roughly, tells the story of an important slice in history in the world of the Malazan Empire. This is an epic saga (emphasis on the 'epic') set on a minutely-detailed world of powerful sorcery, raging gods and blood-soaked ambition. The series currently consists of two series, one by Erikson and one by Esslemont. Erikson's books run to eight vol…

  5. So, this has been something I've personally done for as long as I have been reading. I've always heard the metaphorical phrase, "don't judge a book by it's cover" and thought it was rather rubbish, since that's how I pick my books out in the store. I've been told I'm a bit foolish about it, but it's something that has treated me well over the course of my adult life. Ever since I picked up my first Dragonlance book at the used bookstore when I was 13 (I'm 26 now), it's been generally how I choose books when I need a new series to read, and I don't know the first thing about most of them. Lately I've gotten to the point where I've read so many of the popular seri…

  6. Since this is not directly Wheel of Time related I figured it would be best to post it here in the general discussion section of our site. Congratulations to Jason Denzel, the founder of Dragonmount, for signing his book series, The Mystic Trilogy, with Tor! Keep an eye out for his first book, Mystic, on sale sometime this fall. "The Mystic trilogy will tell the story of Pomella, a restless teenager who leaves her village to apprentice herself to a mysterious Mystic – even though the law forbids it. After lying about her caste, she must undergo severe trials against nobles to prove her worthiness. Far more dangerous, however, is the conspiracy she finds: someone is p…

Anyone else think this would be a good coat for an Asha'man Costume? Just add the Dragon and Sword Pins and it would be perfect, oh and maybe take out the zip at the neck.

Fellow Wheel of Time fans, We are assembling a tribute dedicated to Robert Jordan (RIP) to be given to his widow, Harriet McDougal Rigney, for the coming JordanCon in April 2015. We would like to compile an album filled with postcards of his fans’ hometowns to illustrate the distance his words have traveled and to showcase all the lives he has touched. In the postcard you may put in a few words about how the series affected your lives, a favorite Wheel of Time quote, words for Harriett. Whatever you are comfortable with. The postcards are to be sent in an envelope, with the address listed below. If you want to include a local stamp on your postcard for decora…

  14. I am considering doing an RPG set in the world with this system. Possibly as a RP adaptation of the books since my friends haven't read the books and it would be lol worthy to watch them RP Rand, Perrin and Matt. But I am not sure what would need to be changed or added to make the world work. Some things like magic r much more powerful whilst certain things don't work in the world. Any tips or pointers?

DM family, A while back, (year and a half, maybe?) I posted for readers for my YA thriller, Sleeping Sickness. Several drafts and a lot of work later, it's finally out, so I wanted to share with you some of the details. Here's the Facebook page for it, and the Amazon link. You can find more info, a few stories, essays, and stuff on my website here. I'll be holding a release event at the Barnes and Noble in Newnan, Ga, on 10/17 (Friday) from 7-9. I'd love to have some of you locals out for it; we're doing a couple of giveaways, a reading, and I'll do a Q&A. If any of you know of any bookstores that would be willing to host a signing/reading, I'd be more than wi…

Just finished reading ToM and I just started reading New Spring. I have also read all of the A Song of Ice and Fire books. I need a new series to read and I am not very familiar with fantasy books (just got into reading fantasy books this past June). Can anyone suggest a few good series that I can read. I need something to hold me over until AMoL comes out. Thanks in advance.

  18. So i reread the magician by Raymond Feist for about the hundredth time a couple of weeks ago and since then have been wondering, is there another fantasy novel that delivers so much to the fan of modern or so called high fantasy? I personally dont think so, after 16 years of avidly reading the genre i can honestly not think of any other book that ticks all the boxes that a fan of the fantastic requires quite like Raymond Feist' first and finest novel. It is as epic a fantasy novel that can be written in one book, and for any other story to touch it in scope would imo need at least a trilogy. It has all the traditional fantasy trimmings with its own original twist, eve…

I was not eager to start this book, because I knew someone who had told me that they found it hard to get into. Well, I didn't! I was captivated early on. I couldn't stop reading, but I dreaded the ending! Wow, this book rocked. The characters were great and the plot twists and turns were fun to ride along with! I think I remember Werthead posting that this would be a series? Is this true? And does anyone else think the author looks completely freaky in the picture on the back flap? LOL! I didn't want this book to end.

It's Wheel of Time cage match time again! Some of you are familiar with the popular Suvudu cage matches, which pit famous sci-fi and fantasy characters against each other in bracketed tournaments. Our matches will be similar to Suvudu's, but they will be with Wheel of Time characters only. Your hardworking Admins and DM Staff have chosen sixteen WoT characters (eight channelers and eight non-channelers) to fight each other in a bracketed tournament. We've got a bracket for the channelers and a bracket for the non-channelers. Each cage match includes impressive art and a write-up of how we think the fight might go. The actual results are determined via polls, in which al…

I was confused with the Entertainment forum section since there is no music subsection, so I decided to ask if there are any metalheads on DM here. I do hope that doesn't present itself as a problem. So if you like any kind of metal ( heavy, thrash, power, death, melo death, folk, black, industrial, viking, celtic etc. ) please post it here and give me some of your favorite bands, and we can discuss them etc. :) I may have missed a similar post, so please do forgive me and redirect me to this post :) Keep on headbangin' !

About a year ago, I posted here asking for recommendations for fantasy novels (besides the Wheel of Time, of course), and I received many helpful recommendations. While I still haven't gotten far on those fantasy recommendations, right now I am in more of a mood for a non-fantasy book, and I thought I might get some good suggestions here. So, what are some of your favorite non-fantasy novels? Please feel free to list one or more novels in any genre besides fantasy, and optionally tell why you liked them. I'll add my own list of favorite non-fantasy novels in a separate post.

After finishing A Memory of Light there was giant Epic Fantasy shaped void in my soul. Desperately looking for another series to fill that void. I came across Malazan Book of the Fallen. And so far it's done the trick! As well as anything not a Wheel Of Time squeal series could. Though I am only half way through the second book out of Ten, it has not failed to keep enthralled. Writing style feels much more diffused than what I am accustom to. Though I have dealt with multiple MOVs before most in notably "Wildcards and Wheel Of Time" they carried a stronger feeling of interconnectedness than they do in Malazan. However this feeling of diffusion is not necessarily a …

  27. I've always wondered about my good fortune in meeting and my Random luck in speaking with well-known authors. I am certain that others out there have had some luck in finding an author with some time on his hands and willing to talk, and wanted to open up a thread for some sharing. Tom Clancy- I was 13 when I met him, and had acquired a secondhand dog-eared copy of a paperback to Patriot Games. My friend and I were really into his earlier works (that's all that he had out at the time as it was 1993). I didn't have money for one of the shiny new copies of his latest hardback as my dad was in the Army and earned crap pay. I kind of held back letting all the adults a…

  30. Brandon's newest novel, Words of Radiance, will be released tomorrow! I'm going to the bookstore right after work to pick it up. And he's stopping by Arizona on his tour, so I'm very excited to see him in person. Here's a link to all the places he will be stopping. I hope some of you in the Phoenix area will show up!
