We're 15 years old today! Time for my annual "Oh god, I've wasted my life" histrionics. Then again, it can't be that bad. I did met my husband here and some of the best friends I could ever ask for. Meanwhile, feel free to post your own DM memories here. Tai'shar Dragonmount!

Well, since GRRM is far ahead in the polls, I'm starting this book discussion thread for him. Some possible points to discuss when looking at this work, and please understand there may be spoilers if you are not current on the latest book... - The Others... where did they come from? How are they created/born? - Who is your favorite character and why? - Has your perception of certain characters changed over time? - Who do you despise?? - Who is the Prince Who Was Promised? - Are the Gods of the North weakening? Is R'hllor truly gaining power? Is that related to dragons being in the world? What about the Drowned God? - Will Arya lose herself after all? Or is h…

When you were reading these books did you see yourself or the people in your life as some of the characters? If so who was who? Who did you relate to the most?? (also I'm just on book 4 so far...please try not to spoil!) I relate to Egwene a lot I think. :)

I am not a huge fantasy fan but got addicted to WOT. My question is why is it so exploitative and sacrilegious to have book written by other authors. Comic books and movies have reboots, alternate time lines and things like that. Why couldn't Wheel of time come back in 5 10 years with a reboot. With the mirror realms of the portal stones it seems like a perfect series for that kind of thing. Also in a reboot what would you leave out and in?

Are there any fantasy books out there that are parodies along the same vein as Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? It would be so easy to make fun of all the fantasy tropes/themes etc. Especially if someone decided to add some realism to the fact that all powerful wizards/artifacts would likely lead to the death and destruction and enslavement of entire continents... Or that if dragons/monsters/crazy magic actually existed, life would be so chaotic that no form of civilization would ever develop haha! Or that other races/beings would likely kill off competing races/beings to monopolize resources, not co-exist with them!

I noticed how there are many diverse social groups here in DM. All with their unique names and topics linked to the book series in some ways. But why isn't there a group called 'The Women's circle'? xD I think it'd be hilarious, and we (meaning they) can have a forum to themselves talking about shoes, dresses and errrr.... makeup? I don't know, "That's women circle business" I just think someone should make a group called the women circle. Basically throw down your thoughts and opinions about the idea. What should they talk about? What will be the group's structure, etc.etc... Voice your opinion on this matter! Either 'Aye' or 'nay' or even ' you're an insensi…

This thread is to talk about posthumous works. The poll is optional. Though if you vote, please tell reasons. One author that has many posthumous works is JRR Tolkien. All of them I take were edited by his 3rd son Christopher. -The Silmarillion -Unfinished Tales -The Histories of Middle-Earth series -The Children of Hurin and I think much more CS Lewis has at least 1 posthumous work:: Boxen Of course, the last 3 books of Wheel of Time were posthumous. Done by Brandon Sanderson.

Just finished Wise Man's Fear (book 2 of The Kingkiller Chronicles) and I have to say, I really enjoyed both of them (can't wait for the third). I know that it's gonna be a trilogy but the world is so interesting and the hinted at events that already took place can lead to something really epic, so hopefully there will be many more to come. Anyway, I read somewhere that the all three books are already written and will be released 1 per year. But I can't find any info on the release date of the third one (googled it and all). So, are there any die hard fans who know something about this?

By Stephen King. Sort of a companion novel to the Drak Tower series. King himself describes it as Dark Tower 4.5. Anyways, for those that read it, do you think the whole Starkblast concept is a direct hommage to SoIaF? It's a cold storm that comes from the north. It seems almost an obvious reference to me, but maybe I'm grasping as a straw. Anyone else read it/noticed it?

I am looking forward to the next one coming out. I especially like how Lysaer seems to (sort of) be redeeming himself since Stormed Fortress and is playing a bigger role with a new woman in his life. I really like how its Sulfin Evands descendant and reminds him of Talith. It was definetly the first "gray" book series I read and I was quite taken by them. I'd read dark books like the Crucible-Wounded Hawk but not a book which makes a point of being morally ambiguous. I also appreciate that its a lot more mature and serious in its message unlike ASOIAF which can't decide whether it wants to glorify the violence as a spectacle of badassery or convey the horror of it. Th…

Been going on for a few weeks. Basically its a dual Republic and Sith Empire campaign where we change between characters. With them unknowingly working for the same GM character who is a disguised Jedi Knight undercover as a Sith Lord. However, I don't want to spill the bacon on that one yet and they're already suspicious. So I guess with the Sith characters I am struggling to think of missions which lead them to stop coming to that conclusion (even though shes not the same species using an illusion). Since last week focused quite a lot on the war with the republic characters I want this one to be different. Does anyone have any suggestions? The republic team is mixe…

Coz madness pops up a lot in quite a few of the series I've read, both in characters and as a theme. For instance... Feists Magician- Thomas has to deal with the dragonlord inside him. Wars of Light and Shadow - Lysaers curse driven madness which twists his virtue of justice into something vile Song of Ice and Fire - The Targaryen madness due to incest seems to be a subversion of this archtype. Its admitted that some targaryens are very charismatic and great leaders like most heroic characters. I always thought Aegon was a lot like Rand coz of the two wives thing n you could argue Dany is Rand "with teats" to a certain extent. However, people are much more awa…

The terrible news has broken that author Iain Banks has lost his battle with cancer. He was 59 years old. Iain Banks came to immediate attention with the publication of The Wasp Factory in 1984. A contemporary novel, the book told the story of a mentally ill murderer and wasp-torturer. With its twist ending, matter-of-fact descriptions of stomach-churning scenes and its thick vein of black humour (best exemplified by the infamous 'psychopathic rabbit on a minefield' scene), it was immediately successful and made readers sit up and take notice. A series of similarly vivid and successful 'literary' novels followed: Walking on Glass, The Bridge and Espedair Street. In 1987…
