I hope this question isn't too personal. I saw a poll like this on another forum, and I thought it might be interesting to learn something about the demographics of the Dragonmount forums. (This is my first attempt at creating a poll question here, so I hope it works.)

Hey everyone, I need help finding a good Timeline of Arda, covering events from the creation to the end of the Lord of the Rings. It must be an image though! I've found many good timelines, but they are just words, I need a picture of one, preferably that only highlights major events that circle around the plots of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings (i.e. Smeagol finding the ring, Bilbo finding the ring, Narsil breaking, and so on). I need this for a group presentation in my Fantasy and the Epic Tradition class on The Hobbit. Any help would be vastly appreciated!

For those of you who don't know me, I am a jack of many trades and a master of none. I've drank Oosquai and Danced the Spears with the maidens, performed before my fellow Gleeman back when the Illuminators were of their own caravan, and drank with men and women who would make the Gambler himself blush. I've also been known to dabble in the backstabbing art of mafia scum a few times. For those of you who do know me, well your humble Gleeman wishes to entertain you all again! Among my endeavors is that of a radio show which I host with some others whose names once gleaned more than a smirk around these parts. We have a lot of fun chatting up with D list celebrit…

Windhaven is a storm-wracked world consisting of a vast ocean and a small scattering of islands, home to the descendants of survivors of a spacecraft crash centuries earlier. The most efficient way of passing messages between islands is by the flyers, specially-trained men and women who can use strong-but-flexible 'wings' salvaged from the wrecked spaceship to ride the winds from island to island. Tradition has it that a flyer's wings are passed from parent to their eldest child, but this order is upset when Maris of Lesser Amberley, the adopted daughter of a flyer, is required to give up her wings to her adopted father's trueborn eldest child, who has no interest in flyi…

Hi Guys, Finished WOT for the 3rd time and looking for some new reading material. I like the whole poor peasant/farmer becomes a king story line but have never come across anything even close to as broad in scope as WOT. Do you guys know of anything even remotely similar? Other books I enjoyed: ASOIF Codex Alera Elantris Enders Game Fallen Dragon Kingkiller Mistborn Night Angel Stormlight Archive The Gentleman Bastards Warbreaker Demon Cycle I don't like malazan or the black company. Not sure why but I just don't like them Thanks

The railsea: a network of metal rails and wooden slats which extends in all directions, covering the hostile, animal-filled earth which is too dangerous to walk on. Great islands and continents of rock rise between the rails, on which cities, towns and people exist. Sailing the railsea are thousands of trains, ranging from the primitive wooden, animal-pulled trains of tribal plainsfolk to the sleek, metallic dreadnoughts of powerful navies. Inbetween lie the independent trains, such as the Medes, a moler which strikes deep into southern climes in search of an ivory-coloured moldywarpe, the nemesis of the captain and the subject of her obsession. But when the Medes instead…

Just finished it today. I know quite a few folks on here didn't like it, but I found it to be very good. Sanderson still throws twists that catch me off guard heh. I also liked the Breath magic system; pretty unique.

Moraine defeats Anomander Rake in the 2012 Suvudu Cage Match. Although STRICTLY IMPOSSIBLE, somehow Moraine comes out on top. So for those of you that are unfamiliar with Anomander Rake, the title The Son of Darkness might make you think of an evil character. Nothing could be further from the truth. In the Malazan world, Dark is just another aspect of the Universe. The stereotype of Light meaning good, and Night even evil is not the case here. The various aspects of the universe are such as Dark, Light, Shadow, Life, Death, etc. Each have the full spectrum of good to evil aligned characters. So you could have someone from Kurald Liosan(The Light) actually being th…

Rome, 2760 AUC. Three years ago, the Emperor's younger brother was murdered as part of a scheme to seize control of the Roman Empire. His son, Marcus, went into hiding and survived thanks to the help of two slaves, Sulien and Una, who harbour secrets of their own. When the Emperor suffers a stroke, Marcus has to assume the regency. With tensions rising between Rome and her great eastern rival, Nionia, Marcus embarks on a daring peace mission. But there are those within Rome who still covet the Imperial throne, and will use Marcus's past against him. Earlier today an explosion went off in Oslo near most of the government buildings in the capital. Reports say it's a bomb, though this hasn't been confirmed by any official sources. I'm watching the live coverage now, and it looks like a war zone. Norwegians check in to let us know you're okay!

Ok I've read just about everything BS has written so far (save the YA stuff). Loved it all. Elantris is however, much slower going than I expected. Now I realize it's his first book. But compared even to Warbreaker I'm having a much harder time getting into it. Y'all's thoughts?

So I am currently studying at the University of Pretoria (UP), but am considering changing to a correspondence course with the University of South Africa (UNISA), simply because it is *a lot* more practical. The only thing I am worried about is whether the UNISA degree will be recognised less than the UP one (cause they often say that any idiot can get admitted to study at UNISA). The last thing I want happening is to finish studying and be told that my degree is below standard or something. Now, what I was wondering is whether any of you guys could advise any ways in which one could investigate a matter like this? Thanks in advance for any that reply!

Hello. This message is sponsored by... no one, since everyone is broke nowadays. It it time for the EMPYS! (actually, a bit past time >.>). We'd like to invite you to participate in this yearly site wide event and tell us who you think is the BEST in the year of 2011. As in every year, there are various categories that you can nominate for. Please help us give back to the site and honor it and its members. The Empys Board is now open. It is a child board under the General Discussion board. You can find the link here. The two stickied threads contain all the information you need to nominate (and more! since Nyn and Tyn like to babble). If you …

I'm reading ADWD right now for the first time. About 2/3 through it. I'm very pleasantly surprised so far. Id read some disappointing reviews but I'm really enjoying it. Yes, a lot of "Travel From A to B While Infodumping Exposition" but that's ok. Its what much of fantasy is evolving into anyway, unfortunately. Anyway...something in the book made me go back to AGOT to doublecheck something and I found myself rereading the first private meeting between Lord Eddard and Grand Maester Pycelle - where they discuss Jon Arryn's death. I caught something that really puzzled me. We later learn that Pycelle is a Lannister Man through and through. Yet, it is him, in this ch…

Hello i know there are lots of these posts about book recomendations but i have a different taste compared to alot of readers. I loved books like harry potter, mistborn and wheel of time but i really struggled with lord of the rings (just ended up watching the movies) and a song of ice and fire. I really enjoy books that have a lot of magic like wheel of time and mistborn. Also like big reveals such as snape being dumbledores man, verin black ajah, kelsior planning his death etc. which i think why i didnt enjoy a song of ice and fire and lord of the rings ( even tho i really enjoyed the movies and tv series) i just didnt get hooked. so i was wondering if anyone ca…
