Narnia, it was generally entered through something that could be considered like a doorway. Circle series, Thomas Hunter like switched between the two worlds through dreaming. In both situations, other characters besides the ones that entered at first disbelieved (when told). Both methods could probably be considered magic like. Wheel of Time has both. Telaranrhiod generally similar to the dream method. Aelfinn/Eelfinn world similar to the doorway method; maybe also the Ways. Also Portal Stone worlds & doing a Gateway. The poll is about which method would be most believable. This thread can discuss things related to the methods and/or the worl…

Hi All, I have been a lurker at DM for years. I started coming here to get my WoT news fix. Later I came to read RJ’s blog. Anyway, I figured it was time for me to say hello. Since lately I haven't had enough time to read print books, I have been listening to audio books instead. One of the things that I missed while listening to the WoT audio books was the chapter icons. Recently I found a program that would allow me to add chapter artwork to m4b files (ipod audio book format). The iPhone and iPod Touch have great screens for displaying the artwork btw. I cut my WoT books into chapters and then went in search of the chapter icons and book cover scans…

The music theme for September in the Band of the Red Hand is "Best Guitarist", which is part of our "Dream Band" season. There are a host of activities surrounding this theme, which you can find highlighted below. NOMINATE YOUR BEST GUITARISTS For the beginning of October, I am looking to you to nominate who you think are the best guitarists. Between 8 and 16 is what I am looking for, and those nominated will go into the "It's A Knockout" contest to decide who takes the role of Guitarist in the Band's Dream Band. Nominate your guitarists in this thread IT'S A KNOCKOUT Once we have our nominations, there will be a "It's A Knockout" thread to pick the …

I know, I know...so close on the heels of the last news bit about the Chosen. However they are slave drivers and I post where they tell me to. At any rate, the Chosen want you to know you can now follow their evilness on a daily basis through their new Twitter account: http://twitter.com/askthechosen You'll see what life is like in the "House O' Chosen", get to ask questions (which they might even answer), and generally laugh at the antics of 13 super-egomaniacs all stuck together in one house. Links to new columns will appear there as well, and occasionally they will ask for feedback about how to respond to a question. All told, it is fun for everyone…

Thanks to miscommunication between a friend and myself, I now have two copies of TGS here. I picked my copy up yesterday at Borders, she thought that for some reason I wasn't going to be able to get it on release day and had one sent to me from Borders.com. The one that I picked up is what you would normally expect. When I got the one from the mail though, it's upside down. And I don't mean just the dust jacket is upside down, the entire book is upside down, if you hold it so the words on the spine are at the top and open it like a normal book you'll be reading the glossary from bottom to top. So I want to know, has anyone else ordered their copy to be sent vi…

When he is a young boy, Sam Southall loses a tooth and leaves it out for the tooth fairy to collect. Unfortunately, the tooth fairy is unhappy when Sam wakes up during the collection process, and the result is a long, fractious and unpleasant relationship that lasts the remainder of Sam's childhood. As the years pass and Sam moves through adolescence with his best friends, Terry and Clive, their lives seem to be stricken with more than their fair share of tragedy and misfortune. Is this the doing of the malevolent tooth fairy, or is she merely a figment of Sam's imagination? A psychiatrist tries to get to the truth, with mixed results. The Tooth Fairy was origin…

That's right, every single one of the Chosen have now awoken from their long slumber here at DM. Ask them your most burning questions in the regular community column: Ask The Chosen. How it all works as well as a few ground rules: If you are interested in submitting a question to one or all the Chosen, please send an email to AskTheChosen@gmail.com. If you want your question answered by a specific Chosen, please specify this in the subject. Please refrain from asking specific questions concerning the plot in the books. Plot questions are already located in DM’s FAQ as most of the answers you seek will already be answered there. They will also ignore questions c…

Has anyone read the Green Bronze Mirror by Lynne Ellison? It concerns a teenage girl who finds an ancient mirror buried in the sand and is transported back in time to the Roman empire. She is mistaken for a runaway slave and sold into a wealthy family in Nero's Rome, meets Christians hiding in the Catacombs and falls in love with a slave boy. This book was first published in 1966 and has since been out of print and virtually unobtainable. It is being reprinted in a new revised addition with new illustrations by Philip Smiley, and will hopefully be out in the autumn. For further information contact the publisher at http://www.cnposnerbooks.co.uk

I don't know if this would go in this forum or not, but could not think of a better location. I noticed the review posted by Jason for The Gathering Storm review. However, has Dragonmount reviewed the other books as well? I was also wondering if there is a website somewhere that collects all the critics reviews for the books? Similar to like Metacritic for electronic media? Finally, I was looking at Amazon at some of the reviews for Amazon and I could not believe the overwhelming negative reviews against Crossroads of Twilight. I don't let Amazon influence me only in my purchases, but it averaged only a star and a half with almost 2,500 ratings! I have only read…

I recently set out to reread the collection, one per week, for my blog. First off, I decided on a bit of context-setting by checking out The Sandman Companion (which is a bit of a misleading title: The Author Interviews Neil Gaiman for 200 Pages may be more accurate). I then followed up on that with the first collection, Preludes and Nocturnes:

While I do not know what the community has talked about in the past and quite frankly it seems like it would be alot of work to see if this topic has ever come up. My thoughts are just that the wheel of time books are a wonderful and exciting series. There are many universal elements that make it timeless. Being as such, I really wanted to pass the idea to some, that I would like to see a special edition come out, classic, leather bound set that I can keep for years on a book shelf and read over and over. personal note is that I have hard copies and one or two soft of all the books as is and would prefer to have the classic set to keep instead. I have no idea how much…

I saw a show last night(Sunday June 7) that was interesting even after I learned that it was a show that follows the Sword of Truth books. My question is if they can make a show out of Goodkinds nonsense, why can't they do something with the WOT? Now if they do something with WOT the viewers will think RJ stole the idea from Goodkind when in fact it was the reverse. Thoughts

In the all-to-near future, the European Union is well on its way to becoming a single federalised state. Unfortunately, due to the passing of Article 13199 of the Pan-European Constitution ("No person shall be prejudiced from employment in any capacity, at any level, by reason of age, race, creed or incompitence,"), the continent is grinding to a halt. One detective is assigned to track down a dangerous killer, but finds his investigation complicated by blind nightclub bouncers, octogenarian male lap-dancers, priapic train stewards and airline ticket salesmen with attention disorders. Incompetence, originally published in 2003, was the second original novel by Rob Gr…

We think Vidya Balan is a strange choice to launch Chetan Bhagat's new book 2 States. Maybe she's his die-hard fan. Or maybe he's her die-hard fan. Anyway, we'll leave the speculation for another day. For now we'd like to say that the actress turned up at the Oberoi Mall in Goregaon to launch the author's latest book. Dressed in an orange Anarkali kurta (which looked like someone had vomited all over it) and churidar, Vidya looked like she needed a makeover urgently. We hope Bhagat's book has better success than her dress. Source: sify.com Author: Chetan Bhagat Book: 2 States: The Story of My Marriage More Photos: IndiaGiftsWorld Blog

Haha, I'm so obsessed with WOT and the times in our real world here that RJ based his storyline off of that I've been on a "WOT/Medieval" kick for the last few weeks. I even had a friend sew me a Viking tunic. These are some of my latest projects: http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g126/trekon86/00005-18.jpg[/img] I had made the crappy and thin-looking leaf-bladed spear below years ago from a really lightweight boning knife, but tonight I cut the spear shaft in half making it an Aiel-length spear. Then I split the end of the remaining piece, ground a blade out of an old worn-out file, and lashed it in there with a length of artificial sinew. Methinks it looks muc…
