Hello to everyone! My name is Jenny but at Dragonmount I was known as Jaydena McKanthur and was Captain General on both sides of DM for 8+ years. As the wheel turned I ended up leaving the site for various reasons. This site was a huge part of my life for many years, in fact I joined my first Wheel of Time site (Dragonmount) in 1998. When I sat down to decide on the topic of my Senior Capstone project (a requirement for my Bachelors degree) I knew immediately what I wanted to do. Fandoms and the support that one can find from belonging to one is a subject I have experienced personally. For my research study I have created a survey that I would very much appreciate anyone …

JordanCon has been a staple--if not the staple--in the Wheel of Time fandom since its founding in 2009. The outbreak of COVID-19 canceled the event in 2020 and the tentatively scheduled weekend in April 2021, causing the non-profit organization is calling on fans for assistance. A GoFundMe has been set up for JordanCon, a 501c4 charity, to help off set the costs associated with canceling the event and to help with planning any future conventions when it's deemed safe enough for us to congregate. On the GoFundMe site, JordanCon states: "JordanCon is a tax exempt 501c4 non-profit organization that holds a yearly sci-fi and fantasy literature conv…

It's #WoTWednesday and @WoTonPrime didn't disappoint. A new video released today showed us our first look at Mat's ruby-hilted dagger. Here's the clip: We can see some changes in the designs. This is the Museum Replica, approved by Robert Jordan: And the chapter icon looks very similar: Jason's arguments for the changed position of the ruby make logical sense. The thing that gave me chills was the voice of Barney Harris--who plays Mat Cauthon--saying "Alright, let's make a deal." Who is he talking to? Mordeth? If so, he doesn't sound scared. Also, it seems the dagger isn't in the treasure room…

I've just started reading Cheyenne Raiders, which has that byline: Robert Jordan writing as Jackson O'Reilly. For a novel set in classical Spaghetti Western territory, it seems to have been written more as a historical novel, judging from the first few pages. He's written a trilogy, The Fallon Blood, The Fallon Pride, and The Fallon Legacy, as Reagan O'Neal. What's the general consensus on those novels? (Considering that the German public have been very well served with Karl May's Winnetou parodies, and likewise the Finns with the Hulkkonen Western parodies, it would not have surprised me if Robert Jordan had parodied the westerns, but he doesn't seem to - he certainly to…

Today, @WoTonPrime—the official Twitter handle for the Amazon Prime’s Wheel of Time television show—shared a short video and snippets of concept art. The short video featured Rafe Judkins, the showrunner for the Wheel of Time show, emphasizing the themes in The Eye of the World: “of balance, of gender, and the emotional journey of these characters.” While Judkins talks, several images of concept art flash behind him. Let’s take a closer look! So what can we glean from these images? Fans are already speculating. Here's my take. The first image must be Rand and Mat. Ginger hair on Rand. Ma…

Hi, I posted this is a WoT Facebook group and someone suggested I try here, so here goes: My wife and I are celebrating our 15th anniversary this year. As gifts we are giving each other rings inscribed with a message in the language of our favourite series. She is giving me a ring inscribed in Elvish from the Lord of the Rings, I want to give her a ring inscribed in the Old Tongue. I'd appreciate some help with the Syntax of my message. The message is: "On our anniversary, you own my heart. Through the anxiety and pain, I will always be there." The translation is: "Ost fel Shanna'har, macovale cuebiyan. Cuardein mirhage, hei zaviltye koja…

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab Is a life worth living if it is spent alone? As we are faced with the growing truth that we are mortal I am sure at one time or another we have all fantasized about what we could do with time without end. I have often pondered what I would be willing to give up for even an extra fifty years of life on earth. In her most recent novel V.E. Schwab gives us the opportunity to dance through time as we follow young Addie LaRue. She exchanged her soul for a life without end, but it didn’t come without a price. As Friedrich Neitzsche once said, “The devil is in the detail”. This is a lesson that Addi…

The Child of Chaos by Glen Dahlgren In mother nature there is balance. For every dark night there is the light of day; for every devastating fire there is new life. In a world that is created by order, there will be a need for chaos to create harmony. In the young adult fantasy fiction world, there is a tendency by authors to follow a familiar path. As my fellow lovers of the fantasy and science fiction genre know, many authors can easily fall victim to this trap (Not that it means we love them any less!). Glen Dahlgren’s debut novel The Child of Chaos takes a new approach to the genre that was refreshing. Many in our fandom will know him as the lead designer …

This past #WoTWednesday’s episode of The Dusty Wheel, Innkeeper Matt Hatch hosted our very own Jason Denzel. Matt, who started the Wheel of Time fansite Theoryland, and Jason have been integral to the Wheel of Time community for the past 22 years. Their chat on The Dusty Wheel covered all those years of friendship and ups and downs within the community. The nostalgia is very intense here. They also go into all the known details about the Amazon Prime Wheel of Time television show. Jason does stress that we should be thinking of the show as another turning of the Wheel. This isn’t the same as the book series, there will be differences. I thin…

Amazon's official WoTonPrime social media accounts revealed today a brief video showcasing Tam al'Thor's iconic heron-marked sword. The video showed how the sword went through its design phase to becoming an actual prop seen in the show. This is the first official glimpse of a notable prop seen in the show. Tam al'Thor is played by Game of Thrones alumni actor Michael McElhatton. (View all of the announced cast here.) About Tam's sword (spoilers for books 1-2) In the Wheel of Time books, Tam al'Thor, Rand's adoptive father, received a heron-marked sword during his time as a soldier. The heron marking indi…

Here's the "sequel" to my "Favorite Characters in Fantasy Literature" topic! This time it is Favorite (Top 20) Books or Book Series (not necessarily Fantasy or Science Fiction, or even Fiction for that matter if you are so inclined). Again, I did this in Top 20 format, with five Honorable Mentions (which are in no particular order). I will note which entries are for just a single book, and unless specified as such the rest are for a series. Hope you enjoy and share your own, and have some interesting discussion, and potentially find some new TBRs! 1) Commonwealth Saga (the full series, including the Void Trilogy & Chronicles of the Fallers seri…

I'm sure a lot of you guys have heard Ride into Obsession by Blind Guardian. But there is a demo of it, with some very interesting lyrics. I have an idea of the meaning of the lyrics, and would like to see what other people think. In case you don't know the lyrics, I will put them up here. I will also put a link to the song.https://youtu.be/62AWdtGLjGc PLEASE NOTE: These lyrics are my interpretation only. I did not steal them off of someone else, I came up with them on my own. I believe this is Ishamael and Lews Therin speaking. I think the song is split into Age of Legends sections and Third Age sections. I'll say which I think is which. I will indicate who I thin…

Master of Poisons by Andrea Hairston The world we are living in is rife with crisis and bubbling with change. This novel landed in my lap at the perfect time. As I read, I drew many parallels to our unpredictable lives in 2020. The standalone novel, Master of Poisons written by Andrea Hairston is a richly diverse epic fantasy saga. The story is filled with familiar fantasy accoutrement that is woven together with African influences. The book raised many poignant questions for me that are resonant with our lives today. What are you willing to give up in order to change the future? How do you stand up to corruption? How long can our planet withstand our blatant…

Exciting news dropped this past Wednesday: The official @WoTonPrime social media account released the first audio trailer from the Amazon Prime Wheel of Time television show. You can watch/listen to the clip below: audio trailer Oct 2020.mp4 There’s already a plethora of speculation about what scene and characters this can be. Madeleine Madden (who plays Egwene al’Vere) confirmed on Instagram that the voices do belong to Egwene and Perrin. But when does the scene take place? The battle noises in the back suggest Winternight (or during Bel Tine as showrunner Rafe Judkins suggested last month). We also know in the novels that Egwene a…

Can you make cuendillar armor? It seems to me like you should be able to. Egwene's weave for making cuendillar turns iron into cuendillar, so you could just place the weave on metal armor, and have cuendillar armor right? So why didn't Egwene do that? She could have at the very least outfitted Gareth Bryne in it. What do you think? Can armor be made cuendillar?

If you were gender fluid and you could channel, would you channel saidin or saidar? Or would it switch depending on your gender? Or would you just channel saidar if you had a female body, or saidin if you had a male one? Would you be excepted into the White Tower or the Black Tower? Suppose you suddenly were channeling saidar in the middle of weaving something of saidin? What would happen if you were linked? How about a'dam? Would they work on you? I know this is a lot of things to consider, but they would all need to be if gender fluidity was a thing in the Wheel of Time. I personally think that you would channel according to your present gender, and that you would …

Hey all! Just wanted to let everyone know that myself and a friend of mine have started a podcast aimed specifically at new readers, but all are welcome!! Tales of a Redarm is a read-along podcast that goes through the books in chronological order, but also has a lot of discussions about what is happening in the books and helping everyone connect two and two together as we progress through the series to show how much of a wonderful world there is!! My co-host, James, is completely new to the series and since it is his first read through, I convinced him to do this podcast with me so everyone could benefit from two different perspectives. …

Registration for this event is free, though pre-registration is required. You can sign up here. This #WoTWednesday had some major announcements. First, the @WoTonPrime book club concluded its read of The Eye of the World. This introduced so many new readers to this wonderful series we know and love. Our fandom is growing! The book club doesn’t currently have plans to start The Great Hunt, but we hope they will continue with this as the Amazon Prime show gets closer to completion. To celebrate reaching the end of The Eye of the World, @WoTonPrime rewarded us with this snippet of a video, starting on the excerpt from The Eye of the World where it introduces the Winespring Inn, then we get our first real look at the epicenter of Emond’s Field. …

This past weekend, Dragon Con celebrated all the things we love in fandom. The convention went online rather than in person, and that gave many people who can’t make the trek to Atlanta, Georgia the opportunity to see what this fantastic con has to offer. There were quite a few Wheel of Time themed panels throughout the event—not surprising with all the recent updates with the Amazon Prime television show. Jason Denzel, Jennifer Liang, and Thom DeSimone had a speculation hour in the “DragonCon High Fantasy Track Presents Wheel of Time TV Show Speculation.” The topics ranged from how many of the novels will be included in the first season, to how …

You can download the full recipe here: WoT_Honeycakes.pdf Wheel of Time Honeycakes Notes * Remove any storage items from the oven before preheating. * If using regular table/iodized salt instead of kosher salt, use half the amount of salt. * In a hot kitchen, chill prepped ingredients and dough as needed. * If you don’t want excess honey butter, halve the recipe for it. * If working with a half batch at a time, wrap the other half of the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate. * Put a bowl o…

Rajiv Moté is Dragonmount's book blogger with a lens on the craft of fiction writing. When he's not managing software engineers, he writes fiction of his own, which can be found cataloged at his website. The Dark One is the source of evil in The Wheel of Time, and his army of monsters is formidable. Hulking man/beast soldiers, eyeless swordsmen, soul-sucking bat-men, unnoticeable assassins, evil hounds, Power-resistant gumbies, giant worms, and the giant insects they become. But the scariest monsters in the saga are creatures without a direct link to the Dark One, unaffiliated evils who haunt the corners of the Pattern, with nefarious purposes beyond th…
