  1. Started by Vordreller,

I feel that, before I start looking at everyday general life on the forums, I owe it to the man to pay my respects. Through TWOT, Robert Jordan had a profound influence on my life. Not just that I finally had books I actually liked reading for my book reports at school. No, that was a side effect. Though it was the last step in wanting to read the series. At age 14, I had a friend at school who sometimes sat on some stairs and was reading a really thick book. Biggest thing I'd ever seen besides dictionaries. I asked him about it and he told me it was called "The Wheel Of Time". "Awesome read." He said. He then made a comparison to "The Lord of The Rings", w…

these were in the Daily News (NYC) the other day and had to share em :o ;D #1 The Story City chauffeur Joe Tiralosi dies- but not really. Doctors bring him back 45 mins without a heartbeat. " i was at the end, and now i'm back," he says, "u couldn't ask for a better ending." In other words The best thing about being ex-dead isn't being back alive, but having the exclusive rights to a story that hasn't been told in 2,009 years. Therefore, without further ado my friends, i say let the bidding begin. Do i hear $5 trillion? who will give me $5 trillion? #2 The story Fire ravages part of California and one group of residents tells rescuers no thanks, we'll …

  6. What are everybody's overall thoughts on the book series? If you'd like to discuss one book in particular, or the series as a whole, go ahead. I'd particularly like to hear everybody's opinion on the end of the story and how they think Meyer handled it. I'll chime in later. ;)

  7. Heya, so I posted this in the official WOT MMO section but did not get the amount of feedback i was hoping for. Mostly i think because it's buried on page 11 or something. Anyways, I wanted to do a poll in concert with my post so i could get an overall feel for the idea and see if it's worth putting more time into ;D I do intend on being very pro-active about updating with suggestions and arguments for certain features. I really desire for this to reflect on some grounds a community-driven thing. If there is indeed the support for it. I'm doing my best to keep things readable and spell checked but invariably things will get though. drop me a message if you find anyth…

Im just curious, since i can admit that i liked, the hobbit(bilbo), the first time i read it, even though i never was obsessed with it. But ive never understood the greatness of LOTR. Im not really here to count up negative things about LOTR, or tolkiens writing, im just curious what makes him so great in other minds, compared to others. And why almost noone speaks up against bashing of other authors, just because they didnt write their work first. People keep saying, that author stole that and that from tolkien all the time, and some are extremly silly and some are true, but at the same time silly. Like the nazguls and the myrdraals... They are hardly the same, n…

  12. Scott Lynch made quite a splash with his debut novel, THE LIES OF LOCKE LAMORA, when it was published in 2006. The sequel, RED SEAS UNDER RED SKIES, was also well-received when it was released the following year. Various personal issues have much-delayed the third book in the planned seven-volume series, THE REPUBLIC OF THIEVES, but those problems seem to have been resolved. Lynch has now updated his website with a new, annotated sample from RED SEAS but, more importantly, the complete prologue for REPUBLIC as well. REPUBLIC doesn't have a firm release date, but is currently expected in mid-2010 from Gollancz in the UK and Bantam in the USA.

  17. Im just abit curious. I havent found all that much information about REE. I have ofc seen the various topics that is ongoing in the REE part forum, where pretty much all sorts of stuff is discussed, even if the discussion pretty much has died lately because of lack of information or progression. But my impression from those topics, is that REE is planning to not only make an movie, but also make games for all sorts of platforms. Other information that i have read has usually been different blog posts where they link announcements about Universal/REE etc right that moment, no ongoing information. What im abit curious, if someone could shed a light, maybe you understan…

So I started the trilogy last friday and finshed it minutes ago. I have to say, I was skeptical on Brandon Sanderson being able to fill RJ shoes (For lack of a better term) and complete WoT. But now, after reading these three books I am wholly confident that if anyone can pull it off it would be him. These were really great books. So if any of you out there haven't read them yet, I would advise you do so. Any of you who have read them: What are your thoughts?

  20. No, I'm not saying it'll wind up on the Time's list of "100 Greatest Novels of the 21st Century." But it's graduated from funny/silly/wacky comic strip through to a work of artistic genius, with full on emotional impact, terrific storytelling and brilliant artwork - the type of work that can make people reevaluate an entire genre, can show what the genre can be at its best. Just a brief example. Here's what Sluggy was at its inception: That's the first comic in its history (Aug 1997) - funny, mediocre artwork, generic humor. By two years later, the artwork was much better and the webcomic had graduated to long story arcs: http://sluggy.com/imag…

Anybody that reads Sword of Truth. Have you ever noticed that on the newer publications, there's a rather large picture of Terry on the back of the dust-jacket, and he has this look on his face... I mean... He looks like he's either going to eat my brain, or that he sees all my faults and is judging me for them. :'(

I must admit that when I heard the news of Robert Jordan's passing the first thought that popped into my head was 'but the final book hasn't been written!'. I was just so worried that I would never get to read the end of the series which has become so important to me over the years. I felt pretty guilty after this initial reaction, and thought about the reality of the impact his life and death had on people, the loss his family has suffered and that I was being rather selfish. But then i got to thinking about it a bit more; I never had the privilege of getting to meet mr jordan, but his writing means the world to me and has stayed with me for a long time now. I knew Rober…

So I've been reading a lot of reviews about the Kindle from Amazon, and while the price point is a bit high at $360 US bucks, everything I've seen about it makes me salivate.
