I have seen a lot of debate on here about why they suggested that the Dragon Reborn could be female. 

 

I think the larger question is, why do we know that one of the five Emond Fielders could be the Dragon Reborn in the first place?

 

In The Eye of the World, Moiraine plays it close to the vest. She tells the three boys that the Dark One wants them, but she doesn't tell them why. Egwene and Nynaeve leave Emond's Field for other reasons entirely. There's a strong argument to be made that setting them up as potential Dragon Reborns actually robs them of their agency, which is pretty anti-feminist.

 

And then there's the fact that the Dragon Reborn is regarded by Randlanders as a terrifying figure that they all fear. Yet they hear it might be them and they're all like, meh. 

 

Just leave the Dragon Reborn out of it. Book reader would have appreciated it and new viewers would have been happy with the mystery. Remember the first season of Lost? None of us knew what the frack was going on and we didn't care. We watched to find out. 

 

They have changed the story in a way that doesn't work and wasn't necessary. This is why there are so many detractors.
