Rafe Judkins, the show runner for Amazon Prime Video's Wheel of Time TV adaptation announced today during a pre-recorded video for JordanCon attendees that Ayoola Smart will play the role of Aviendha beginning in season 2.

Here's our announcement video, given by our video host Ebony and her daughter Aviendha:

Ayoola ("eye-oo-la") Smart is an Irish actress with extensive theater and TV credits for her young age. She's had notable roles in Killing Eve, Smother, and the BBC's adaptation of Les Misérables.

if she is coming at the start of Season 2 it makes me wonder what they are doing with the story, in the books she is first introduced when everyone is converging on Tear. Does that mean we won't get to see Mat blow the horn at Falme? That Egwene, Nynvae and Elayne will not be chasing down the Black Ajah or have any lessons in the tower? Will we not see them raised to Accepted even?

I love the casting but the placing of her in the show really makes me question how much Rafe is brining things back on track?

Season 2 incorporates parts of books 2 & 3.

We don't know how much of each, is getting adapted into Season 2. For all we know, we only meet her in the last 2 or 3 episodes.

I was being an idiot, beginning season 2 does not = the start of season 2 🙂 that old US vs UK use of the english language (and me having had no sleep lol)

I could buy her as Aviendha - except for the dark eyes and no fight scenes in her show reel.  I know - gotta get the best actors so eye color doesn't matter.  But fighting does.

Let's hope she gets some weapons training!
