in shadow rising, when the white tower is being over thrown, siuan doesn't notice the shielding of leane because she is otherwise busy and its the white tower, the problem is the when aldric, her warder, DIES, she doesn't even notice it. i am wondering other peoples opinions and insight because i am really confused. Thank you. (ps its on page 767)

RJ answered it something along the lines of:

 

He was not dead when she walked past him, only mortally wounded. He wasn't right outside the whole time, he only came running when he sensed Siuan's shock. He was just stabbed or whatever a moment before they came out to the anteroom. Siuan was distracted by the confrontation she was having with Elaida & Co. and so didn't register Alric's injury through the bond until she saw him.

 

I'm not sure whether that was an oversight on RJ's part and he concocted the above explanation to account for it or if he meant it that way.

As I envisioned it, Alric, having sensed Siuan’s extreme shock, came running to her and arrived just in time to be stabbed just before Siuan was taken into the anteroom. She should have sensed the knife going in, but that was masked by her shock. When she sees him lying there, he is dying, though not yet dead. As I said, I should have made it plainer.
