1984 was pretty depressing, but good enough. War of the Worlds wasn't, in my eyes. The Count of Monte Cristo - I'm reading a translated version, and so I don't know if I can really judge it. Classic, BTW, is different from good writing. Classic means a certain element that makes the book memorable and a must-read, not necessarily good writing.

  • She has been assimilated.  Resistance, go figure, ended up being futile after all.

How is it a classic, if it's written poorly? There can be no discussion. Classics = Awesome writing.

And how can you not like War of the Worlds? Changed people's perception of life from other worlds.

*sigh* Classics are considered classical not necessarily for good writing; you yourself gave evidence for War of the Worlds. Now, I'm not saying it's bad, but that it isn't good enough to rank with my all-stars.

No, I don't believe the subject ever came up...why would anybody care about something that happened over 40 years ago?  ::)  That's the only ex that I have.  Been married for 36+ years to this wife.  The ex was just a girlfriend that wasn't meant to be.  I'm over it now.  But thanks for asking.  ;D
