Hello Everyone,

 

I’ve been re-reading the series (currently halfway through The Shadow Rising) and can’t stop thinking about how delicate and interconnected the choices of the characters are. A single different decision could send the Wheel spinning in an entirely new direction! That got me curious—what are your favorite “What If” scenarios in The Wheel of Time? Moments where you’ve thought, “What if this had gone differently?” or “How would the story change if X happened instead?”

 

Here are a couple of examples that have been rattling around in my mind:

 

1. What if Perrin never returned to the Two Rivers in The Shadow Rising?
   Would the Whitecloaks have wiped out the villagers without his leadership? Could Faile’s story arc have been completely different?

2. What if Mat never took the dagger from Shadar Logoth?
   His arc would change so much—no sickness, no trip to Tar Valon for healing… but also, would he still have ended up in the world of the Aelfinn and Eelfinn?

3. What if Rand had failed to cleanse saidin?

4. Imagine how differently events might unfold if the madness continued unchecked for male channelers. Would the Asha’man still form as they did?

 

I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas! Whether it’s minor changes that snowball or massive turning points that could rewrite the story, let’s weave some alternate threads of the Pattern together.

What if Moiraine had never found Rand, Mat, and Perrin in Emond’s Field and how would the Pattern have corrected itself, or would the Dark One have won?

These "What If" theories are so interesting! Personally, I've always wondered, if Moiraine hadn't sacrificed herself at Cairhien, would she have been able to help Rand better control Lews Therin? Or if Egwene hadn't become the Amyrlin, would the war with the Seanchan and within the Aes Sedai have played out differently?
