Baseless defense could be a sign that someone wants  to try to build up "Town cred" by defending a town player even though they have no cause. It's day1 so there is no chance of a viewing.  Remember,  the mafia KNOW who is town, so they can defend them and be right.

Another newbie (in all sorts of ways - including having just arrived at the Manor) here! Read through threads...and understand what(?) or how(?) the game works...but still no suspicions about anyone.  Do I just randomly throw shade and see if it reveals something? Or do I instead plead my innocence?

Trying to think what us towniest of townies could do to draw mafia out. They can just be quiet and win on even chances. But any noise townies make will drown them out. It would almost be safer not to lynch anyone, but of course then nothing happens to distinguish mafia and townies keep dying. 

 

It is insufferable. Perhaps we just need to gang up on someone and see what comes lose when we shake them. 

That is kind of mafia in a nutshell, yeah. 

What made you want to play mafia @HeavyHalfMoonBlade?

I was curious. For raising points I helped Mother fill out a spreadsheet with details of people in the Warders Guild which involved trying to find the last date they posted. Which meant I've dredged through a lót of old posts and a lot of people talking about Mafia. Also got me reading a 12 year old thread about feminism. That was an interesting three and a half hours though. 

 

Mafia seems like something that is an emergent property of the rules. Until you play, you'll never understand what it is about from hearing the rules. 

That's for sure. When I joined the mafia subforum was really active, and I just randomly started reading a game. It was a rough first start, because people were seemingly fighting and rather rude and toxic to one another, but I guess I just got too curious and decided to find out more. 

 

It's getting late for me though. I'll try to read once more before I go to sleep.

It’s not uncommon for folks to toss out predictions or the like at the beginning of a game. You can use whatever deducing tools you want. Like, I could say since Ithi is runnin a game her husband is in and that she mentioned before how much he loves the mafia game and being mafia that she would indulge her husband’s whim and make him mafia. Or, the other way around. Would she instead tease Turin but makin him vanilla?
