Hello there!

I feel like I saw Dragonmount a couple years back, but I'd already left my WoT superfan days behind mostly so I wasn't terribly keen on making an account. I guess things aligned, so here I am now! 😃

Hello Aarenis!

Welcome to Dragonmount. Hope you have a good time here, and look forward to seeing you about the boards.

Thanks Heavy! I see you all have RP boards and a forum mafia section and I'll probably check them out at some point when I have the energy for them!

Yup, there is the social boards, where we relive being in the White Tower, etc, with friends, RP boards where full on characters go on adventure in the Westlands, Community boards for things like Mafia, and of course the boards for discussion of the books and the show. Show boards have spoiler rules, book boards given the timescale have none. Be happy to meet you wherever 🙂

Welcome @Aarenis!! So glad you are joining!

I'm a Novice. Feel free to ask any question, and if I can't answer, I will direct you to the most trustworthy Accepted @HeavyHalfMoonBlade *grins mischievously*

Thanks Andy and Gudrean!

However, I see a lot of mafia sigs, and this tells me I should be appropriately concerned about considering everyone trustworthy just like that.... 🤨

I guess my more serious question would be: do you have a good guideline for me with regard to the no necro rules? I notice Dragonmount isn't as active as it used to be, and am not sure what constitutes a necro here when I'm trying to join some of the book threads.

Er.... Probably I should poke @SinisterDeath for that, but he is probably off doing unspeakable things or something. Not sure what Admins actually do in their spare time.

Personally I would say anything from after the books were finished is still current. Chances are that the original poster won't reply, but the content is still relevant, and I have definitely seen people adding to a thread that is years old and the original participants come back to discuss more as they were still following the thread so were notified about any reply.

If you don't want to necro something or it feels wrong, you can always reference an older thread while depositing your won thoughts in a new one.

Thank you both! Appreciate the guidelines. Definitely didn't want to accidentally mess up and create an unspeakable abomination only balefire could resolve 😔

Also re the 'bumping' of old Thread.

This is what it says in the DM CoC

5. Topic Bumping - It's OK to respectfully "bump" an older message thread if a reasonable amount of time has gone by and the thread has become static. Frequent bumping, or bumping a larger volume of topics will result in a Warning.

Welcome aboard @Aarenis, similarly, I'm fresh meat (aka arrived as well).  So I probably won't have any answers to any questions; but I'm happy to stumble around in the dark with you!

I can't possibly comment on the influx of Mafia to the Boards. I'm sure it's merely a training exercise on how to fib without breaking the 3 oaths.

I guess I can relate... I used to have this issue where I subconsciously refused to lie as maf... It's as though becoming maf just unlocks my inner Aes Sedai and I am suddenly deeply passionate about living by the Three Oaths 😔

Ty! I think my initial read of this was to not necro, but I think now I reread it again, it's more about just...not spamming old threads?

Ty! We may stumble in the dark but not under the Shadow! 😤

It really depends on the type of "necro" and "bumping to be honest, but here's a couple of easy examples. of dos and don'ts.

Let's say you're reading a topic about some random thing in the books and you quote someone and you say something like

Quote

"OMG, I never thought about that until now!"

The Topic is 3 or 4 years old. That's not bad. You might ask yourself.

Sometimes it's worth asking this simple question.

Does it make sense to make a new topic just to make this reply?

If yes. Make a new Topic.

If No. Reply to the topic.

Here's a don't.

You see a topic that's 15 years old.

Someone is talking about something that happened in Book 8, and they think X is going to happen.

You reply with something like

Quote

OMG, you're so wrong and you should feel bad for being so wrong about what happened in book 13! I DEMAND YOU ANSWER FOR WHY YOU ARE SO WRONG ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED IN A BOOK EVEN THOUGH YOU POSTED ABOUT THIS BEFORE THE BOOK WAS EVEN PUBLISHED!

That's a don't. (and yes this actually happened once)

We can't demand others reply to you. If the topic is old. Keep it light hearted, and don't expect that person to ever reply back. If it's really old, and you reply to a lot of old topics all the time, that could honestly be new topics? You might get warnings for that.

Thank you! I appreciate this. I think I've got a better understanding now 👍
