No one expects you to read the thread outside of the time you actively spend in it, and it's fair play to just show up at your lunch break and shoot who you're told to.  There's a lot of leverage to accommodate variance in how busy you are.  But it's certainly an adjustment; 30,000 posts can be overwhelming on its face, takes a sort of mental reset to realize you don't have to read them.

Honestly, this was the jump I struggled to make, which is what made me feel I wasn't really cut out for mashes. Maybe sometime when I learn how to chill and let go of my own expectations. I just wound up getting angry at myself for not being able to do it.

After 20 years of this basic format, the zoomer crowd started introducing Friday starts last year.  It's unplayable for anyone with a normal 9-5 job and family.  A lot of these games I couldn't play anymore if I wanted to.  But that wasn't the leading factor in stepping away.  I'm just disconnected with their perception of politeness.  The same wording I've been using to express reads on people and opinions of game designs for a decade tends to rub people like I'm being aggressive now, and I don't get it or care enough to figure it out.

I'm curious, and maybe this isn't the place for it: but what's the shift? I don't play on MU enough to notice differences.

I was thinking it proves he is really a Wolf cos everything seems to be in Dog Years.   Omg I've not played a game in forever. Where have you been? It's been years! I thought you'd died!

Dear friends, it’s good to see so many familiar names.

fwiw, my activity over the past week is about how active I’ll be in the game.  Unfortunate, and maybe I’ll be able to pull off a bit more in the evenings, but that is how life goes.

Verb I saw your posts about inviting the JF squad.  I, for one, welcome them to come get banned.

Hmmm.  Three back-ups.  Ithi, this isn't at all intended to be back-seat modding, but would it be feasible to add 3 to the setup assuming they want to play?

Well Cairos gets real busy real quick and Heavy is actually taking a break from Mafia, so technically I only have one full time back up

and that is the wonderful @csarmi🙂

Also I can't rebuild this now. Took me a long time to get it showing as mathematically balanced.

40+ player games, usually 60-80.

Typically with 12 hour phases and a day phase death mechanic where every player is given a gun with a 15% hit chance to fire at whoever they want to.

Traditionally mashes start on Mondays and are designed with enough kill power to always end by Friday, so you can play at work.  You are expected to not read every post.  Rather, effective strategy as a villager is to form pockets of people you trust and eliminate wolves by process of elimination.  Effective strategy as a wolf is to go big and loud, exploit the time restraints to kill the town core before it can form.

It's a lot more... free? I think? than regular Werewolf.  You can wolf pretty openly and not worry about the long con.  You can contribute a lot as a villager without great wolf reads if you're just able to find a bunch of villagers and keep them out of the line of fire.

Conversely, its literally perfect for me.  The game I just played was a mash and I had a 2 hour window because, aside from posting on my phone when going to the bathroom, it is illegal for me to play until 5pm central Monday through Friday.  Day ran 8am to 8pm. I wake up after 7 and get ready for work then drive.  I can put in that work on the weekend and then die peacefully and not care

Also I was the person Shad got scumchat from.  Obviously shad was in the wrong, but as I told a million children, anyone over the age of 30 *gets it*

Yeah... Turns out 'who you're told to' is a key thing...

If you sign up for a 120+ player mash on PoG as your second ever game, panic at the volume and then just try and shoot the Wolfy thread leader near EOD1 with a 20% because #soulreads .... You get a !! LOT !! of shots to the face in very quick succession!

It's madness but I agree much less stress than traditional games. I'd enjoy playing again, but by the sounds of it not with the new kids on the lawn....

It was unique to my role and the rest of the wolves had a wolf chat.  What caught me off guard was that I was expected to assume I wasn't supposed to have access to it or else ask a host.  I just dove head first into PMing my team mates.

My role was "Recluse, Self-targetable, Compulsive (x3 ITA Shots, 30% ITA Hit Chance, x2 ITA Shield, 3% ITA Booster, 3% ITA Nerfer) Mafia Fruit Vendor"

Somewhere in this string of words I was supposed to know that I don't have access to wolf chat.

Everyone but me thought this was obvious.  Your guess is as good as mine lol

Recluse pretty obvious bro....I noticed it..... lololololol

I've played 72 mashes, just "retired" last fall.  It's sort of my specialty lol.  But the demographics have shifted and I have a hard time enjoying myself when most of the players are zoomers.  Too many cultural barricades, feels like I'm constantly accidentally offending people and I just can't relate to them.  Some of you probably felt the same way when my generation rolled into the game a decade ago lol

They loved me on MU eh Shad.... especially the discord LOLOLOLOLOL

I mean, @Zander? has basically trained us all in appropriate post volumes...

😛

Correct my young Padawan learner....it's inappropriate and Wolfy to post less than 409 posts per day LDO..... LOLOLOLOLOL

Why'd you have to go bust my bubble with potential reality ?!?!?!!!?!?!

How many games have you played since your last mash?

For me I think I played 1 more, on MU. More madness.

But honestly, it did feel like 'lower stakes' than usual after that first one?

Hahaha was it Anni 9?  120's a lot even for POG mashes but that's one hell of a crash course.  Anni 10 was my first mash and I still remember so many details and how utterly lost I felt.  Luckily one guy played so poorly his name became a verb, so my poor performance was quickly forgotten.  XD

Yeah sure when you know in advance that one of them means you can't be in wolf chat.  Imagine just being told with no context that you are a reclusive self-targetable compulsive fruit vendor lol.  The thought that I might not be supposed to have access never even crossed my mind.  I'm all for RTFM but I shot out the whispers to enter wolf chat before turning to the dictionary.

*Smacks Zander with a revolution flyer*

As long as you remember when it's not!

I meant you've been good training for mash volume, cos you're like an extra 20+ players XD

It's ok for the rest of us (and even you!!!!) to post less!

Ithi says!

Unironically yes but there's no chance people will play it XD

I actually built a Dragonmount bastard mash yeeeeears ago that's still sitting in the dust bin.

Had to go Google to find it as it wasn't MU, and I would've sworn it was 120+ but apparently that's all in my head, might have come from Tom's explanatory/coercion PMs?!?!? It was only like 56 players 🤣

Despite not being as big as I 'remembered' - that last part of your post about remembering details is relatable XD

My performance was also very quickly forgotten which I think is why I am forever going to believe they're low stakes games.

In that one, one guy was pocketed Village neighbour to Scum and  ? @Cory Caboose made a lolplayername song...

How big is the one in the dustbin?

And, because I have no idea, is a smaller mash just a 'kitchen sink'?

We might be unlikely to get the BIG numbers here ... But can something similar be designed for a smaller player count?

The other thing I like about them is the in-game events etc.
