its amazing how much random thinking you can do when you spend 10 hours a day under a welding hood but one of the things i was thinking about today was all the different cartoons that were on when i was a kid. what with so many being made into movies now i thought i would ask what different people thought were some of the best toons ever made.

some of my favorites would include....

ducktails

the old donald duck and chickmunks cartoons (circa 1940's 50's)

the smurfs

transformers

she ra

he man

the thundercats

what are yours?

Actually, once we get a list in this thread, we might be able to do a Favorite Cartoon competition thread like our current Favorite Actors. I don't know what the plan for the next one of those is, so this might get in the queue.

These aren't necessarily the best, but they're others that I watched a lot when I was younger.

Darkwing Duck

Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers

Animaniacs/Pinky and the Brain

Looney Toons of various sorts

And we can't forget Smurfs!

I watched all those too, Caddy. Except for the Smurfs, because they're Canadian  ;D

Also:

Transformers

Masters of the Universe

Gargoyles

Ren and Stimpy

Tiny Toons

Batman: the Animated Series

It's a shame that something being made primarily for kids results in the idea that it can't be for adults, too.

I actually wouldn't call Gargoyles the best cartoon Disney has ever produced simply because it isn't a cartoon; it's an animated series. Ducktales is propably the best of Disney's cartoon crop of the late eighties and early nineties, not that the other weren't good.

I just watched a bunch of Animaniacs on Youtube, though. Still great.  ;D

Semantics, every 'cartoon' in america is an 'animated' Series, Cartoon is just the 'american term' for animation, or Anime.

Though really if you want to get nitpicky, ducktales was also an animated series, a true cartoon was something like bugs bunny, or that really fast bird. :P

Pointless, animated, no plot line, no story just mindless violence, and funnyness to 3 year olds is a cartoon.

TMNT was a lot of fun, but a bit too campy to be the best ever

My favorites:

Gargoyles

Transformers

GIJoe

Family Guy

Simpsons

Darkwing Duck

Animaniacs

Eh, you do know that the cartoons are based on the comic books, right? First one came in 1946. I had almost all of the 24 albums growing up, and have started to collect them again, but in French this time.

It's a brave man who can admit to watching She-Ra cartoons, right Ironcross?  ;D

I was a regular cartoon junkie as a kid, particularly on Saturday mornings (back when Saturday mornings used to be worth getting up early for). Here's my list from childhood and today:

The Tick

Transformers

South Park

Simpsons

Gummy Bears

He-Man

Dungeons & Dragons (really campy, but damn cool for a geek like me)

Snorks

Smurfs

Darkwing Duck

Tailspin

Original Looney Toons

There are more, but I can't remember them right now.
