titan ae rocks.  my son is only 6 months but he relly loves finding nemo and cars. dident like monsters inc so much though.  loved the jungle book though

so i fanaly got to see atonment.  it was ok, but it wa sone of those movies full of flashbacks, then flash forwards. i hate those movies.  just makes it so hard to follow.

 

i also rewatched kartum. staring heston as gen "chinees" gordan this movie is a true life story of one mans sacrifice to try and save the city of kartum from a muslim revolt around the turn of the 20th century.  one of hestons less known rols, it is still one of his best movies.

So I saw two flicks over the weekend.

 

In the Valley of Elah - Tommy Lee Jones and Charlize Theron  I don't really know what the say about this movie.  The acting was great and the story was good.  It is one of those movies that  you watch and go "that was a great movie" but a year down the road it is forgotten. 

 

One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest - Being the HD snob that I am... I am watching the classics on one of the HD channels.  I can not be a complete movie guru without watching all the Oscar winners so it is something I am working on.  I can really see why people raved about Jack.  He really did put together a great perfomance.  It was also interesting to see a young Danny Devito and Dourif's first movie.  But the movie dragged a little and I found my attention waining.  Glad I say it and glad I can put it behind me.

I saw Chapter 27 this weekend in the Chinese Theater in LA (really neat building, was the one redeeming quality of the experience). This is the movie about the guy who killed John Lennon, and it's complete crap. You don't learn anything real about his motives, it doesn't explore John Lennon as a person or an artist, it was not particularly good from a cinematic perspective, and there was no point to ANY of it except possibly to let Jared Leto show off the fact that he's willing to gain 100 lbs for a movie. Skip it. In fact, if you see it coming, run.

Wow, I have a few updates for this thread...

 

Gone Baby Gone - I really didn't know anything about this movie other than the fact that Amy Ryan was nominated for an Oscar and Ben Afleck directed.  I gotta say though, this movie was quite good and one I would suggest to those that like a good plot as well as good character development.  I really enjoyed the moral dilemas the movie presented and it had many good points where people could discuss things they might have done differently.

 

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly - My lasting impression is... wow... that was depressing.  This is not a happy film but the acting was superb and the story was interesting in that it was different from most other films.  I would not suggest this to just anyone though and would only say watch it if you like non mainstream movies.

 

Cloverfield - Blair Witch meets Godzilla.  Yep that sums it up.  I wasn't overly impressed but it wasn't awful either. 

 

Into the Wild - Why was this not nominated over Atonement I do not understand.  This was a very good movie that I would suggest to about anyone and would move into my tops of 2007.

 

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead - Little known movie from 2007 that stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke, and Marisa Tomei.  It is hard to say anything bad about Hoffman as he is one of the best actors of our generation.  A pretty good robbery gone bad movie.

 

In the Valley of Elah - Tommy Lee Jones and an almost unrecognizable Cherize Theron.  I thought this was a great movie dealing with the fringes of the Iraq war.  This one would also move into my tops of 2007.

Currently watching Three Kingdoms

Alrighty guys.  I continue my quest to watch every movie listed in people's tops of 2007.  I think I read about this movie in someone's list and decided to put it on my netflix.  I didn't know much about it and it was from New Zealand so it never really made it to the top of my list.  However, TV is crap these days and Stars On Demand had the movie listed and decided to give it a try.  The movie I am talking about is Eagle vs. Shark.

 

 

Think Napolean Dynamite in love and you already will feel at home when watching this movie. If you're into quirky indie comedies that are slightly off center than "Eagle vs. Shark" should join your list of favorites, as this movie is an oddly charming comedy while showing how even outsiders and outcasts can find love.

 

I think Mendorah posted a review of that one a while back. I thought it seemed funny from the trailer, but haven't been able to get a hold of it.

To be fair, I have already watched all of West Wing but trying to get the wife to finish the series.  I like having a disk of TV shows to watch especially with TV being so dull atm.

 

Mad Men Season 1 - So good!  I strongly suggest this to anyone that likes a quality drama.

 

Semi-Pro - I fell asleep during it.  I keep waiting for an Old School or Anchorman but he keeps giving me nothing new.  I didn't think this was an awful movie but not good either.

 

10000 BC/Jumper - Speaking of bad movies....

 

Taxi Driver - I am trying to watch some classics I missed.  While I though the acting from De Niro was awesome, the rest of the movie was blah. 

 

Adaptation - So wierd.  It is good to see Nick Cage doing some real acting for once but... weird.  Not bad mind you.  I should have done some shrooms before watching it though.

 

Enchanted - For some reason I really liked this movie. 

 

We Own the Night - If you saw the previews you saw the movie already. 

 

The Wire - We are currently on Season 1 and man... I hate I missed this on real TV.  HBO continues to produce the best shows on TV.  It starts a little slow but the show is great at giving depth to their characters.

Stargate, gotta love it. Both of them. It was sad when Sg1 was cancelled. Now Atlantis has been cancelled i dont know what to do.

We just re-watched the Stargate movies.  Also we're watching Buffy all the way through, we're in season 1 now.  We saw Eagle Vs. Shark a little while ago, and I join Empy's endorsement.

 

I've been sure to pick up Eureka as it airs too.

I just started another rewatch of Oz, and it is still awesome.

@nd season of Dark Angel on DVD after finishing Cowboy Bebop.

So I just checked out Balls of Fury as it was on HBO on Demand and the wife was late getting home as usual.  So I blame her for me watching this.

 

Ummm... it wasn't good.  Let's go that way.  I didn't even finish watching it.

The Orphanage - someone here reviewed it and said it was awesome.  I trust you guys... sort of... and taking a chance on a movie I know little about.

 

Vantage Point - I question the goodness of this movie but all the cool kids are watching it so I wanted to check it out too.

 

Lars and the Real Girl - Continuing my quest to watch all the movies on people's Tops of 2007 lists.  This is one of those that has shown up a few times so I had to check it out.

Emp - you shouldn't be disappointed with Lars. I randomly rented it from iTunes, and was surprisingly pleased.

 

I've suspended my Netflix account while I am officially homeless, so I'm watching a lot of reruns of CSI on Spike. Also, some Mythbusters. And What Not to Wear. And the Prison Break season 4 premiere (it wasn't bad, but I'm mostly there for Mike Scofield). Also, A New Hope was on last night.

 

And I bought Secretary, which makes me happy, in an appropriately twisted way. ^_^

I also watched about 5 minutes of the new 90210 last night.  I think they are going for a The Hills/Gossip Girl audience.

I've finished season 1 of Mad Men and I thought it was pretty good. Has season 2 started yet?

 

I also caught the season premiere of Prison Break. I'm finding it a bit annoying how they're always killing off characters, and how predictable the twists are. I keep watching it for Linc... I mean the hot chick.

 

I'm also watching a documentary series called Ross Kemp in Afghanistan. Ross Kemp (from East Enders apparently) join the British Royal Anglians in the south of Afghanistan. He's there with the soldiers on the front lines and there are some scenes with pretty heavy fighting. I'm mainly watching this because I'm not getting much info on the conflict from the local media.

Season 2 just started earlier this month... I think.  I also think I saw somewhere they are doing a mad men marathon Sunday... or maybe it was last weekend.  I also hear it is on demand but I can't find it on Verizon.
