find that DM is slow the past week....or is it just me? I have been having a crazy time getting around on the boards because they are loading up so slowly for me.

I've noticed, too. It's been this way as long as I've been back (2-3 weeks or so).

 

And in case you're technically curious...

 

I've found that during general business hours on the west coast (8am-5pm Pacific Time), the database portion of the forums yields about a 10 second delay between each page view. I just work around it, starting another post loading while I'm reading the one before.

 

By the time I get home (5:30-6pm Pacific), it speeds right up, so the database server doesn't appear to be getting hammered by that time.

 

I narrowed it down to the database server because I can load static files off the server (like graphics) with no delay at all. It's just the posts themselves that take forever, I presume since they're having to read from the database.

Didn't understand most of that, but yes it has been slow. I even have the high speed cable and DM is slow while other sites aren't.

I am in Arizona, so it figures it would be an American time zone thingy with busyness.

My guess would be that it's due to the large numbers of people visiting the sight in relation to Mr. Jordan's death.  I know several news pieces I looked at mentioned Dragonmount, and it is one of the first sites that shows up when you Google Robert Jordan. 

 

(By the way, nephitess, I like the nickname.  ;) )

I've actually had no problems at all, wether it be from home or work. :P

For some reason we're having weird hiccups with the site. It's definitely not server related though.

 

If you're interested, here's our traffic against some of the other WoT sites. As you can see, things have leveled off quite a bit.

Yeah, our traffic is just now settling down to "normal" levels. Which is still more than the other big sites.

We have a lot of new members who have joined to find others who share their grief. Not to mention all the return DMers coming to reconnect. What can we say the site rocks! I am proud to be a part of it too.
