The FCC wants to hold another one of their fancy auctions where they sell something they don't own that shouldn't be for sale. This time the winning bid will allow a company the dubious honor of giving away free wireless internet service to everyone.

 

Oh, also, the free internet that is provided will have content restrictions. No porn or obscene material will be allowed on the FCC's free airwaves. Since when is porn and being obscene illegal?

In some states obscenity is illegal.  And so is some porn, mostly because of the obscenity laws.

 

In Texas, it's illegal to sell quite a few kinds of porn.  It happens anyways, but it is technically illegal and if anybody wanted to act on the law, it would be easy to prosecute a lot of sex shops.  They only do it in Extreme cases though where they think some truely awful stuff is coming through because the uproar is not worth the trouble.  And remember 2 Live Crew?  The argument in Florida was that their album As Nasty As They Wanna Be was too obscene to be sold legally.

 

But yeah, I friggin' hate the FCC.  Sometimes they have a point for what is appropriate for free airwaves, but mostly they're just being Rediculous.

This could make a great topic on D&D, but the one major issue I have with the FCC, who determines whats 'obscene'? Obsenity is completely relative.

 

I find barm's face obscene, but you don't hear me trying to ban him from the internet?

Paityr smell is obscene, but I'm not trying to prevent him from selling his odor with some french lable as male colone(sp).

 

If anything, we should disband the FCC! Its purpose has been without purpose since after the Cold War Propaganda Machine died off.

 

Now... Just how do we get rid of the NAMBLA, you the organization that has to deal with rating movies. ;)
