They were down for me as well.

And Ata, what you said about five years versus two (too lazy to type more) is the reason why I'm trying to do more threads outside of just WS advancement. I want to develop my character more, although I have some delicious plans for him. *evil grin*

nods, the developing mean a lot, however for me i find the old reqs where the inspiration for developing the writing skills of weaponry...while i still did the other char development beside that, after the change i felt i lost the first and due to the development in the reqs that there became less of the other rps, and the development rps where forced more and more into fiting within sertaint frames so you not only developed your char, but could make sure to get the credit for it as well

and well comparing the two, i must say in retrospect that i prefer the first method, i got to explore more areas due to it, and overall had more fun and where more content, then again i am more of a math then say a language person in so far that in math you deal with 2+2 is 4, while in language you have to analyse something that can mean a houndred things based on how you view it, its so defuse..i prefer the cold logic, that granted take training so you dont forget, much more then general understanding where you can row your way out of things

Hm yeah, maybe you can PM all the specifics you can remember about the old way, I'm kinda interested now :)

This did turn into quite the debate.  Now I think there are a few things I would like to hit on.

This is a VERY old debate that has happened for years, and I personally feel needs to be resolved.  I remember the times when each Discipline had it's own leader, and we were all talking about things we could do to make things better, then the paths were introduced.  Things went way south because people felt so shorted in making such a huge decision.  I remember thinking, "well it's not your decision, you're not on staff" yet I also remember thinking "I want the old disciplines for Corwin."  So I understand where you are coming from Ata, I really do.  Now the big thing is this debate has gone on so long because people want to give their input, and Crystal and I want to take it all in as well.

The whole reason for the Paths was that people were only making characters that would fight, and it was a very 2-D character.  The Paths were trying to get more character development going.  The funny thing is, I remember when CS was first being phased out because of the difficulty of making it a non-godder discipline.  The same with Ren'Shai.  And so that is what we are tying to do, take idea that are good, but not just on paper only, but good when used by others.  Ren'Shai was a huge debate and I remember it was a lot of Ren'Shai people that left when the Paths were introduced.  The Paths were needed to fix a lot of problems we were having.  But now a lot of those problems have been resolved.  So what do each of you feel will help character development the most, while also being the funnest?  I have my personal opinion, but we want yalls.

Think about your character, and voice if you feel a Path is better for them, or a Discipline.  Anyway just some ranting from an oldie...

Honestly, I'd like to keep the disciplines and maybe a little bit of the paths. However, I want to get rid of some of the complicated disciplines some. Most of the paths are just the disciplines worded differently. I think it would be interesting if you had disciplines like Speed, Strength, Flexibility, ext, and had that be the main focus. Now, each of these disciplines have their fery obvious strengths and weaknesses, and those weaknesses are glaring. After all, in real people they have glaring weaknesses as well, some of them aren't as broadcasted, but still there. It's annoying seeing godder characters who are the strongest and the fastest and the smartest. I'd rather see characters with very definate strengths but very definate weaknesses, then you have to make up for your weaknesses using your strengths. That's where the paths come in. They're like secondary focuses, but completely different than the disciplines, so you can't chose like, strength and speed at the same time, but choose a path that complements you and makes your weakness less glaring. Of course, this is just what I think would be cool to RP, I don't expect it to work out this way. In fact, I just kinda started typing and ended up with this big long monster thread. ;D

One of the path options was Path of Speed in there somewhere... might have been what Path of Water evolved into, 'cause I seem to remember Mariasha having been both :)

I've been reading this thread as it unfolded and I still really don't have any idea what the disciplines and paths are.  As such, I can't really make a decision or form much of an opinion.  I'm adaptable, though.  However it ends up being decided, I can form my character (since he is so new) to accommodate and reflect that.  Jasine doesn't have a whole lot of flavor right now, he's a boy who played swordfight with sticks in his childhood and now has a real sword, but doesn't know much about it beyond how to not stab himself.

I'd love to have a system set up where there were mentors who were masters of their individual styles of fighting and who had different mindsets and views on how to gain their mastery (like Ata mentioned some had diet restrictions, and I'm sure some had different codes of honor) but without the masters in place, it's going to be a lot of new people roleplaying by themselves as they write in the masters/mentors as NSWs and the actual role playing part of back-and-forth activity is going to suffer.  Or you're going to end up with the 3 or 4 oldbies who remember how things worked pulling a lot of double duty as they play the NSWs for the mentees who each want a different path.

The lack of players limits us in this, but I don't really know what the solution is to it.  I'd love to have someone assigned to my character to whoops his ass and teach him how to fight, but it's going to be a strain and a challenge on the oldbies to have to know all the given fighting styles (whether that be discipline, path, or both) and a lot of their time to rp it.

those issues Q, and that people like different things is why i think there should be a 3 choise mather

A . old disc's -> follow old req system, you choose this way on your own risk aware of the lack of people to help as the classes are majorly based on having a teacher from your specific disc

B . no disc, path -> follow new system

C . new disc (speed, balance, and something - they are 3), and electible path option -> follow new system

the new system is less dependable of a teacher and mentor, its more interaction based, and there is no reason in most the cases where you do need help of a senior member, that this could not be one who went with choise A

the new system has classes with elder members on things like the bond -> bond studies

wheter you done this req rp wise or not (choise A), has no effect on the logic of an elder member knowing it, the knowledge comes most often from being bonded or reading on it, which members of any 3 of the choises can do independant of req or not

hence the only ones effected by the A choise in an A-C system, would be the persons who choose A, no one else, because everyone else have interaction reqs that anyone can help them with

so in reality nothing change, but for that those specialy interested get the option of doing their own reqs the old way if they are willing to take the cost to doing so

I like having the choices available.  It makes it possible for each of our warders to grow uniquely from each other, which makes contests between the trainees (and Tower Guards) more vibrant and interesting.

The page that has the paths and disc's on it has been unpublished for the time being until a decision is made. I am also working on reorganizing so the site may be a bit messy for a day or two.

I will republish the page when everything is back in order.

I know I was here when a good bit of the old disciplines were being posted and I remember seeing how people acted with some of them.  I've trained lots of people before and I can do it again, so anyone who needs a mentor, just let me know, and if needed I can make a TPC to use instead of Corwin to fit your training.

Corwin

eqw owe me a nsw :P and yes corwin time to learn the new terms, there are no tpc anymore ttpc yes these has to have a deadline to death pretty much thoug ;), so NSW def what you are aiming for ;)

Lol, I'm pritty flexible, I'll do whatever (although a little bit of my plans for Arath are based off these discs, so I'd have to change a couple things)

  • 4 weeks later...

If I could make a sort of general suggestion...

It would be really nice to have a sticky on the progress board listing the requirements and all that from the warders website for ease of checking on progress and planning threads and stuff.  It's a little rough having to go back to the general ward info thread and then to the website and then find the reqs in there.

personaly i disagree i got the important sites in tabs, i generaly then tend to copy the reqs of my level into my report to be and then just add links bellow each as i complete them (before finaly adding headline for check up and bump the tread to make staff notise it)

its not nesicary to list all and everything in stickies it just makes things messy and makes lot of scrolling, its why there is offsites who are well organised and easy to use, and after a few weeks it pretty much should be a habit to find things on them ;) i been here 4 years and dont really give it a second thougth
