Rand lost his hand (that rhymes). After he uses all the advantages he has with Semirhage he could use balefire to get his hand back.

Well...That might have worked if he'd done it like right after it happened. But the longer he waits the stronger it would have to be and I don't think he has the power for that.

Even Rand can only reach back a few minutes with balefire.

 

You know, there was a topic with this very title a few months back. I didn't realize the DM server allowed multiple threads with the same title.

I do have to say though...He might be able to manage it using the Choedan Kal. Who knows though. Thats pure speculation.

umm, other then that small angreal i don't think he was using anything extra when he balefired Rahvin back like 2 hours or so

Depends on the time frame involved.  I don't remember how long it took Rand to track down and kill Rahvin (if it was stated), but the balefire had to be strong enough to return Asmo, Aviendha, and Mat to life.

 

In any case, Rand has accepted the loss of his hand and moved on.  I don't think he'll use balefire to get it back.  It flies directly in the face of his beliefs about killing women.  Also, he expects to die at the Last Battle.

I think maybe Elayne will make him one. No, seriously. Min viewed her with a severed hand and she's the one most capable of coming up with the idea. Maybe she can make him a cuendillar one or something equally cool.

It doesn't matter. I'm sure Rand would be willing to re-learn how to use balefire. It's not a crutch of the weaving that you need to extend your hand, but more a crutch of the learning. Just as most Aes Sedai cannot throw a fireball without doing the throwing motion with their hands, despite the fact that the hand motion has nothing to do with it.

 

Anyway, it really doesn't matter if he could get enough power to remove Semirhage all the way to her birth. If he learned what he wanted from her, then balefired her with the strength to bring back his hand, that'd probably unravel the Pattern. Or cause a lot of problems. And Rand doesn't need those problems. He's got enough. He is missing a hand, you know. Not to mention kind of blinded.

On a more practical level, if they were able to pick her brain of all useful knowledge, then balefire her back to before she blew his had off, he would also balefire all the information she gave him out of existance too...

It doesn't work like that, Swigaro. Memories remain intact. Rand balefired the Darkhounds, Mat remembered much more saliva on his arm than was really there. Moghedien balefired the boat Nynaeve was traveling on, Nyneave remembered the boat being further down the river.

Plus what if Semirhage the only person who could heal hm of all the stuff that's wrong with him (hand, old wound, problem channel, ect) if he balefired her everything she did would go undone. so i guess that won't happen

I don't think they will ever be able to compel her to heal him. Maybe get a few weaves out of her, but she will resist tooth and nail. She might even kill him if allowed that close.

 

She might do it if they agreed to let her go afterwards. Can't see Rand agreeing to that though.

Rand really is insane if he lets Semirhage touch him with anything- remember this is the Lady of Pain- or whatever she was called.

 

Anyway, sadly I think that Rand's hand is gone with nothing to do for it- victory often requires sacrifice- and Rand has certainly learned that time and again. Rand would never balefire her for that- the thought would never cross his mind because he knows he would unravel the pattern. Besides, killing is just too final-as Lanfear would say. Evil characters often end up doing good they did not intend, don't forget that.

For some reason iv always though that Rand with LTT help would make a ter angreal replacement which considering the technology available in the AOL it isnt that much of a stretch although i like the idea of Elayne making it.
