I just talked to her hubby a while ago (before having a monster dinner >.>) and he's in the hospital with her. She had a beautiful baby boy on the 28th, named Connor. I didn't get the specifics of weight and the likes, cause he was in a hurry. But he mentioned she was in labor for 9 hours or so, the baby was born in time (not premature or anything) and that both mother and son are doing great.

So, here's hoping you rest well, Gaea! Way to go, gal :D  *snuggles*

Actually Jeh, that's a blessedly short labor - the average labor appears to be about 15 hours!

I'm hoping to take after my mother, myself; I was her longest at 8~ hours, and my baby brother (her fourth child) was all of 45 minutes.

15 hours? Umm, what kind of stuff do you generally do for 15 hours?

Except wince and moan in pain, i mean <.<

ROFL! My Mom was lucky. Me and all my brothers were only 2 hours.

And congrats to Gaea! ^_^

....*makes a mental note NOT to join the Greens. Something about not wanting to tempt fate* <.<

Wow Tigs, remind me to steal some of your mom's DNA or something... that's brilliantly quick!

And actually Jeh, even during the average labor, only about 3 hours of it all told is supposedly particularly painful.  And some people do manage relatively pain-free labors; a lot of it is in the head and all.  I'll be home-birthing myself, and possibly making a water birth out of that; the warm water is supposed to be excellent for relieving the back pain and lessening the severity of the feeling of the contractions.

Congrats Gaea!!!!

After 24 hours of a 48 hour labor (yep...she's still incredibly stubborn!) I opted for drugs....and lots of them!!  Second baby was born in the hallway of the hospital (1 hour labor) cuz we barely made it..  :)

  • 4 weeks later...

So here I log on to report the birth of my son and find out that someone beat me to it!  Thanks Nurit, for making the announcement for me.

Yes, 9 hours is a short labor.  Though it came on fast and hard!  I rolled out of bed at 11:30 pm for the standard midnight pee-run, and as soon as my feet hit the floor, a contraction hit.  I thought nothing of it until I went to the bathroom and my water broke.  From that point, contraction were about 5-8 min apart.  It took Dan about an hour to get us all packed and ready to leave for the hospital.  By the time we were on the road, contractions were 3-5 min. apart.  By the time we got up to labor and delivery, they were more like 1-3 min. apart (and the hospital was only 15 min away!) And man, were the contractions hard hitting with barely a moment to get a breath between them.  I was fully effaced when I got there, and about 3 cm dilated.  I asked for an epidural.  That went in about 3:30 am.  At 6 am, I was fully dilated.  At 8, his head was down far enough for me to start pushing.  I pushed once or twice, and they lost the heartbeat (it was still beating, they just couldn't find it).  Them trying to find it wasn't pleasant.  After they found it, they had me push again.  After about 5 pushes, his head was out.  3 more pushes and the rest of him followed.

He promptly wee-ed all over the nurses, twice, when they took him to get his vitals.

He was 7 lbs 8 oz.  20.7 in long.  And absolutely beautiful.

Isn't he beautiful??

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone!

*hugs* My water broke in the bathroom too. He is so cute sweetie, great hob with him. Look at all that hair. *snuggles and kisses the baby boy* Good work Mom!

Awww, baby!  ^_^  Congrats, Gaea, he's beautiful!

My first was the only one I labored with.  28 and a half hours of induced labor and no drugs, then they tell me I'll need to have a c-section because I wasn't dilated at all, in spite of him being all the way down in my pelvis and me being 2 weeks over due.  That was awful.  They had to recalibrate the machine that monitors the contractions several times because I was peaking out off the chart, but all of those contractions and no dilating.

With Kat, I contracted the entire last month of my pregnancy.  They'd be 2-4 minutes apart for hours and then slack off to just being occasional Braxton-hicks contractions (practice contractions, they call them).  I went into the hospital 3 times but never dilated.  The second two were scheduled c-sections.
