Maybe it was because Rand wasn't even meant to die? We've all seen in the starting how much Ishamael tries to get Rand to "come to the dark side" as it were.

And ta'veren is a pretty good explanation.

I went with Aginor/Osan'gar.

As Aginor he gets spanked by an untrained kid and as Osan'gar he was just pretty much boring.

I chose Be'lal before I looked at any of the threads, so most likely for the same reasons the others did.

He was a cocky, overweaning, primadonna who got BF'd by a wimpy (relatively speaking) lil Aes Sedai.  I'm glad we didn't get to know him very well.  I'd have probably disliked him even more.  ;)

Padan Fain.  Every time things seem to be sort of under control, he pops up and ruins everything.

BTW, is Taim really a bad guy?  I always thought he was kind of a creep, but not evil

Well, he is a Darkfriend, probably trained by Ishamael, possibly even a Chosen. I'd say that puts him on the evil list.

Remember at the end of KoD.  He said, "Let the Lord of Chaos rule, Muhahahahahah!"

You couldn't get more campy villianness if he said that while twirling a handlebar mustache.

Only ever a partial answer. Anything that happens around a ta'veren must have been possible (even if improbable) had there not been a ta'veren present. Had Rand not been ta'veren, the result could still have been the same.

Aginor is an untrained kid? Because he beat himself.
