Two River Tabac ???

Featured Replies

I was wondering if Robert Jordan ever specified in any of his blogs or discussions what type of tobacco he represented with Two River Tabac or if it was completely fictitious?

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

i believe it has something to do with the tabac from the Shire in LOTR how everyone, even in the most random places has it.  But it has to be good because even the Aeil want it

I do see the parallels between TLOTR ,and the tip of the hat from Jordan ,but I have read that he was also an avid pipe smoker so I thought maybe there was substance to it.

And I read something about that somewhere once as well ,but I just don’t get that kind of a feel from the way the character treat in the stories.

The Two Rivers must grow a strain that's tolerant of the weather there which seem more like that of Pennsylvania or New York than of the Carolinas.

It would be interesting if someone got cancer.  Of course, they wouldn't recognize it as such in the Westlands, but it would be cool.

Cancer is cool?

I always thought of Two Rivers tabac, along with Shire pipeweed, as Cuban tobacco - rare, from a small distant region, and the best of the best.

I've always wondered about drugs in Randland.  I can't think of any mentioned except alcohol, tobacco and poisions.

Only if it's not me.

I kid, I kid.  No it's not.  My post was poorly worded.

I thought maybe we could bring this topic back up? if Robert Jordan really did base TR tabac on a RL tobacco it would be interesting to know what kind it really was.

I have wondered about this myself.  I'd say it would be RJ's favourite tabac whatever that was.

Now, let us not forget fans, that RJ was first and foremost a Southern gentleman.  All y'all may not know that the best US tobacco is grown in the south, especially in the Carolinas.

Heck, the only place the Yankees can grow decent tobacco is in Pennsylvania.  ;)

'Course we ain't even addressed that Carribean leaf.  Cuba & the Dominican Republic are famous for cigar tobacco.

All this talk makes me wish I had my pipe with me.  Mmmm...

do we have many pipe smokers(tobacco of course) on this site?

I have a tobacco pipe I got in London, as well as a glass pipe (for tobacco of course).  My roommate has a hookah and some glass as well.  There's nothing like shisha for smoking.  I only smoke my tobacco pipe occasionally so I'm not sure what brands of pipe tobacco are good - I just buy whatever I can find.

Wow, I wonder if you can get addicted by TR tabac like you can with RL tabac!

I still wonder about drugs in Randland.  The characters are aware of the concept of addiction, for example the one power and true power are addicting (however I can't remember if they are actually compared to drugs or not).  There also seems to be a general disdain for alcoholism.  However I don't think it is ever noted in the books that either tabac or alcohol are addictive.  I seem to remember reading about drugs in the AoL, but I have no quotes.  Does anyone remember anything?

New Question here

what kind of pipe did Robert Jordan smoke out of? we have all seen his sword and knife collection, but he also collected pipes. it would be interesting if we could see a picture of a few of these.
