OOC: Figured i'd start the second class while the first one is ending, so people can get their reqs done somewhere this year.. Sorry about the delay! ^^;

IC:

Jerinia was waiting in class again, a bit unsure as to how her students would have taken their first lesson. She had sent one of them to the Mistress of Novices, and Larindhra had ended up giving a penance to everyone in the class. Though that hadn't really been her intention, she figured it couldn't be helped, and besides, penances weren't that bad. She'd been on more so far than most Accepted had two times over.

Still, waiting for her students was something she believed she'd never get herself used to. She waited for them to drip in, already knowing the lesson she'd try to teach them today. Compared to the last lesson, this one should be relatively easy -- though she was careful not to say it out loud, not wanting to jinx herself!

Great Teacher Jerinia

Is ready for Round Two

Satin woke that morning to a freshly cleaned Novice dress. She had spent a while on her shoes before she went to bed to be sure that she presented herself properly.

Everything in its place.

A place for everything.

Part of destiny is written in the the weave of the pattern, just like this. No matter what her life had been like with that aweful woman who had raised her, she would make this life, her own without any influences from her. Again, Father came to her mind to cloud out all thoughts of her mother. Father was all that there was in her life and be damned if that, "woman" would tear out all the love and fondness she had in her heart.

She dressed and combed her hair. Washed her face and cleaned her teeth with the gritty rock salt from the jar and spat out the after taste.

One look in the mirror revealed that she was properly ready for the next class. Grabbing her tablet and small quill she pulled open the door to the flurry of Novices rushing to and fro. Some red faces hot in their attempts to be on time. Some giggling in groups as they danced along. Satin perferred the solitude for her thoughts and allowed for her to study people without chitter from someone else.

She arrived at the classroom door and went in. Her Mentor, Jerinia was to teach again. Impressive.

She curtsied and gave her a smallish grin and went to the center, front seat to await class to begin.

  • 2 weeks later...

Allrianne woke up face down on her crusty pillow. She had cried herself to sleep and had twisted and turned all night long. She had been facing nightmares about Jerinia and Larindhra fondling her and forcing her to hold the Source. All the while she had been screaming and calling out to the Children of the Light, who were blatantly mocking her, saying that she was one of the witches now and there was no going back.

She rolled out of bed and forced herself to get off the floor. She put on her plain, white dress, then brushed her teeth and combed her hair before grabbing something to eat in the mess hall. She sat alone as usual and ate in silence, occasionally broken by a sob. Once she was done, she collected her dishes, took them to the kitchen, and slowly made her way to the next class.

Like last time, Satin had just managed to beat her there. She gave her teacher a slight curtsy and found a seat in the back once again. She folded her arms on the desk and rested her chin on them, looking very bored.

Allrianne Viventi

Still not happy

Jerinia smiled at the two students as they came into the room, looking eager to start the lesson -- and more importantly, forget what happened during the last one! -- but nevertheless looking a bit relieved as Allrianne stepped into her classroom as well. Considering the trouble she was having with just being near people who could channel, let alone be one of said channelers herself, she was worried the girl might have snapped. If her own life as a Novice -- and Accepted, for that matter -- was an indication, she hoped the young Novice would indeed have the backbone that was required in order to not break under the pressure.

- "Good morning Satin, Allrianne. We're still short two people, so do either of you have any questions before we start?"

She hoped the others would show up though. There were always Novices that couldn't handle it, that would sneak out of the Tower, burn out their ability to channel or break under the strain of near-constant classes and chores. She hoped Kembial and Katiana would still be able to make it to class, though it seemed Katiana was starting to develop a tendency to be late. She'd need to talk to the girl about that...

Great Teacher Jerinia

Is getting a bit worked up

Katiana was lost.

She didn't think it would have been possible to get lost on her way to the classrooms, they were centrally located and usually almost easy to find.  She'd been to them twice just in her first class with Jerinia Accepted, and now she was lost.  She chewed at her lower lip, trying to find something that would tell her where she was.  She hadn't seen so much as a window in the past half hou-- There!  She scurried over to the window and leaned out to look around.  She couldn't abide all this living indoors and being up in the air where there were no landmarks.

He thought trailed off as she realized she was much too high in the Tower and one of those wrong turns she'd taken must have taken her up instead of down.  She stomped her foot and swore colorfully and then turned around to wind her way down and stopped cold.  A regal-looking woman in pale cream silks stood staring at her, disapproval clear in her expression even when she seemed not to be making an expression.

Katiana didn't wait for the woman to send her to Larindhra Sedai.  She ducked to the side and broke into a run, trusting that the Aes Sedai would be too dignified to chase after her.  When her foot caught only a few feet from the Aes Sedai and she tripped and fell to the hard stone floor another curse found its way between her lips.  The Aes Sedai wove more air and stood Katiana up and held her there in place.  She stepped closer and in a voice like ice, she said only, "You will report to Larindhra Sedai and I will know if you do not."

Katiana nodded meekly and as soon as the Aes Sedai released her, she turned and walked down the winding hallway that would lead her down.  Both to Larindhra Sedai and to that damnable class that she was likely well late for now.  Rather than be in trouble for both, she decided she'd visit Larindhra after the class.  It would save her the extra trip when Jerinia Accepted sent her to Larindhra Sedai as well.

When she got to the class room she was surprised to see only two novices in evidence.  She sat quickly, dropping into the chair that was closest to the doors so that she would be the first out as soon as the class was over.  In spite of her foul mood and general sense of dread about these classes, Katiana forced herself to nod mutely to Jerinia.  It was as much as she felt she could do today, but at least she was making the effort to show some respect.

Having a bad day.

OOC: Right, there's been a small misunderstanding thus far. After getting my wrist slapped by Elgee for making this four freeform RPs rather than just one post per thread. Sorry about that ^^;

I'll post the assignment after everyone posted once.

Nodding at Katiana, Jerinia felt relieved at just having to write down one name as being tardy. Still, she figured she'd need to speed things up a bit or she'd never be able to get to her own list of chores. She was still an Accepted after all, not like those Aes Sedai that had the Novices and Accepted do all the work! Softly clearing her throat, she stood up like she had done during her last class when she begun.

- "Right... There are five elements, called Fire, Earth, Air, Spirit and Water. Women are generally stronger in Air and Water, whereas men used to be stronger in Fire and Earth when they were still around before the Breaking. There are exceptions to the rule, of course -- I'm quite strong in Fire myself -- but in general that accounts for most of the Aes Sedai here."

She moved in front of her desk again, leaning on the dark wood as she looked at those present. Eye contact was important, she really wanted to involve all of them in her lessons. Spreading out her hand, she channeled saidar into the five threads, five colors each symbolising one of the elements.

- "Now, we call what we do 'Weaving', because it's just that. Each weave is a combination of one or more of these elements, arranged in a certain pattern to have it do what you want it to do. During our last lesson, some of you may have seen the weave i used to pick up Katianna, though it's no shame if you haven't."

Shooting the girl an apologetic smile for bringing it up again, she turned her palm upward to have the five threads point up again. She then looked to her students, stating what she wanted them to do.

- "Todays lesson is about recognising the elements. Each of these five threads i'm currently holding represents one element, and i want each of you to walk up to me and say which thread represents which element. You'll have to hold saidar like i told you to practise, and try to pull away the threads one at a time. Don't worry though, i'll help you along if you're having trouble."

Smiling, she waited for the first person to approach. If they'd be having trouble she'd help them along with some advice on how to keep the elements apart though she wouldn't outright give them the answers. They'd still need to learn, after all.

Great Teacher Jerinia

Realises that probably her classes have been taking too long

Allrianne pondered as Jerenia talked about these elements and weaving and all that. It almost bordered on interesting. She began to recall her times holding the Source. Her first had been an unusual event where that Blue had tricked her into it. But her other times...there may be a connection. Her second time had been in Larindhra's office and she had spilled scalding hot tea on herself. Then her third time, yesterday, had been caused when she landed on her back on the floor after spazzing out. Could it be that perhaps, she could hold the Source when she was in pain? She quickly tried to grab it consciously, just to see. She didn't want to, but she had to know. And thinking back on her dream, the Children were right. She was one of them now. She couldn't go back. Maybe she should just make the best of it.

Trying to grab the Source, she seemed unable to grab that little light. Unable to feel the warmth of the sun on her little white rose. She looked from side too side as Jerinia continued. No one was watching her, so she rolled up one sleeve and dug her fingernails into her forearm and clawed up towards the elbow. She winced in pain as some skin came off and a little blood was leaking. Mostly just red skin, but it might be enough. She tried to be a rose again. But rather than embracing the light, she embraced the pain, the wind that whipped at the rose. And there it was! She had it!

She stood up and approached the Accepted and stared in awe at the five threads laid across her hand. They were...pretty. She almost grinned at the surprise on the Accepted's face, both at Allri's quick volunteer to be first and the fact she was holding the Source. "Reaching" out to the threads, she pulled on the milky white one. "Umm, I think this is Spirit. Right?" Jerinia nodded and she kept going. "Hmm, they all seem to be even, I think. Like, none of them jump out at me like the first did, but they don't appear to be resisting my pull either." She decided on the blue one, almost reflective. It seemed...refreshing and pure. "I think this is Water. At least it seems that way." She pulled on the bronzish looking one and it felt firm and strong. "Earth?" The Accepted nodded.

Allri started to feel her grip on saidar loosen and the threads looked fuzzy. Checking her arm, it didn't hurt much anymore. She looked at Jerinia with a sad and apologetic look, then she dug her fingernails back into her forearm and gave them a good scratch. Her grip on the Source strengthened and she could see the flows clearly again. She grabbed ahold on the opaque flow. It felt very free. "I suppose this has to be Air." Looking at the last one, she took hold of the red flow and felt it's heat. "This has to be Fire." Her teacher nodded and Allri returned to her seat and let go of the Source. Maybe this isn't all bad... she thought. Maybe channeling wasn't evil, but she wasn't convinced Aes Sedai weren't.

Allrianne Viventi

She did it! Yay!!!

Katiana sat at the edge of her seat, leaning forward over the desk to try and see what was going on at the front of the class.  It would figure that the day she had decided to distance her from the Accepted, he would wind up being asked to come forward and play with string.  As Jerinia mentioned the weave she had used on Katiana, the girl slumped back into her chair and scowled, no longer so intent on seeing what was happening in the front.  She dropped her chin into her hand and watched with a dark expression as the Accepted finished speaking.

And then she completely forgot to be surly when she saw Allri leap up to be first to the task.  What's this?  She's willing going forth to channel?  Katiana didn't know where to laugh or scream at the daft girl who had turned cloak and gone over to the witches so easily.

Not that Katiana herself hadn't also decided to make the best of the fact that she could channel, but still!  There was a difference between seeing the wisdom of where your life choices lie and just... just... embracing those changes without hardly a fight!

Kati rose from her chair as Allrianne stepped back and she crossed to the front of the room, her face a mask of faintly surly acquiescence.  She would do this thing, but they couldn't make her enjoy it.  Any more than they could ever make her admit she enjoyed it.  She embraced the source as she walked, having practiced doing so whenever she could when she had been trying to burn herself out.  She still couldn't believe that hadn't worked, so many girls had purportedly burned themselves out on accident, and here she had been trying to do it and always lost hold of the source before the sharp sweetness of Saidar could consume her.  She never said so out loud, but she quietly berated herself as craven for it.

Jerinia accepted dropped the weave and reformed them before Katiana got to her, and she could see the lines clear as day.  They were pretty, but she wasn't about to compliment this snippy, saccharine Accepted with kind words.  Hands fisted at her sides, she pulled on each element in turn, speaking only enough to identify them.

"Earth." She spoke tersely as she pulled on the darkest and most solid of the threads, feeling its stability and stubbornness.  "Water," she intoned in the same way as she was moving the blue one, pulling away from Jerinia and curling the cool and heavy element.  She chose the white one next, expecting it to be air as the clouds are white in sky.  She was surprised when it didn't feel like air, and a moment's uncertainty crossed her expression, knitting her eyebrows together in confusion.

"This one's not air, as I expected it to be.  It's too... warm."  She broke off and scowled at Jerinia, as if the woman's gently encouraging smile had tricked her into being civil.  "Spirit," she finished with a guarded flick of her eyes to the Accepted's face.  She handled the next two weaves at the same time, not pulling, just feeling.  Then she dropped the opaque one and pulled at the red.  It came willingly, and as she focused on it, she found her was able to pull the thread and even form it into a coil like a loose ringlet.  This brought a soft smile to her face and she basked in the willing dance of lively and ever-changing... whatever it was these weaves were made up of.  "Fire."  She couldn't help but scowl, Jerinia had said she herself was strong in Fire.

"And the last one must be air."  She gave the thread a tug, and then another, to pull it out of its original alignment.  She could tell it was more responsive than Earth and Water had been, but it felt... slippery.  As if it were trying to dance out of her grasp.  She gave it another tug, hands fisting at her sides again as she forced it to her will and abruptly Saidar was gone, and with it, her ability to see or manipulate the threads.  She scowled again, shooting Jerinia a look as if it were the woman's fault she'd lost hold of Saidar and turned on her heel to return to her desk, as far as away from the Accepted as she could get.

Jerinia gave a relieved sigh that the lesson had passed without incidents. Far from it, in fact, even the girl that had been terrified of channeling during her first lesson had seemed far from shy when she had been the first to step up. Maybe it was because she gave her the time to get to know the One Power at her own pace? Katiana was still being the noblewoman, though her mask had started to show some cracks as well. True, Kembial was still missing, but she assumed the girl had been assigned to another class or something. Overall they had all improved a great deal since their first lesson, and she couldn't help but feel slightly proud of them, something she felt was showing in the grin she sent their way.

- "Well, that's about it for this week. Now, what i want you to do is basically something Katiana did today. Since these threads are what make up the weaves that we make, i want you to practise with them. You can form two, or three, or all five if you want, and just have them interweave. Wrap one over the other, or just make them dance in front of you. Keep in mind however that at your level of skill it'll be impossible to accidentally make a weave that'll do more than topple a chair or spill water from a mug. Not when you keep your mind on what you're doing, anyway."

She blushed softly, remembering the documents she had set on fire -- accidentally, mind you! -- during her first series of channeling classes. Larindhra wasn't as amused, and she had a strong arm... Coughing softly to get a grip on herself again, she turned back to her students.

- "The main point is that you will start learning to control your ability, to only have it do what you want it to do. There are only a few weaves that use all five elements, so don't worry about it if you can only keep track of two or three threads at once. At this point, it's more important to know what you're doing than to be able to do more than you can handle at once."

Is moving on to the next step

OOC: Class 2 is now over, though Jerinia will still answer questions if you have them. I'm making Class 3 in a few minutes ^^
