Hi from the UK

Hi

I started reading WoT in 2007 (borrowed the first book from an ex-boyfriend!), and have been addicted ever since.  Am currently reading Crossroads of Twilight & am planning to start a reread from the beginning when I've finished Knife of Dreams.

I've been lurking for a while, and I look forward to 'talking' to you all!  :)

From someone else living in the UK, I say hello back! *grins*  What's your poison - making new friends, talking about the books, a bit of roleplaying, perhaps?  We've lots of goodies around here! :D

*grins back* Talking about the books seems like a good place to start, although I don't know nearly as much about them as the rest of you seem too!

What are the Orgs? I have seen a bit about them, but don't really understand what they involve.

Do you mind me asking roughly whereabouts in the UK you are?

Yeah... the book discussions are pretty crazy... I don't wander in there myself, but sometimes it's interesting and fun to have similar discussions off-forum.

The Orgs are like themed social groups in a way, with the sort of exception of the Illuminators - they're about arts, crafts, writing, etc.  But like... the Seanchan are about movies and TV, the Band is centered around music and travel.  The Kin is the 'drama free' Org, and is, in general, supposed to be a really good place to chill out.  Shayol Ghul caters to people who enjoy stabbing and being snarky (and they do it well), etc, etc, etc.  I'm only passingly involved on the comm side myself, as the roleplay is my relative home on this site. ;)

And I happen to live in Bedford - yourself?

And from another Brit, welcome to DM!

I see Raeyn has told you about the Band of the Red Hand ORG, so I don't need to do that!

Hope you have a great time on the site!

Thank for you the welcomes!  :)

Thanks for explaining the Orgs, Raeyn I'll pop in and have a look. I'm not too far from you, I live in Wellingborough which is near Northampton.

Hi Schat! I live not too far from you either. Good to see another Brit here.

Definitely check out the Orgs, they are a great way to get to know us here on the boards. The White Tower is one of the biggest here and is very friendly. ;D

Well, you can never have too many brits  ;D I'm from newcastle m'self.

Welcome to DM. I can add something more to what everyone else has said. Yes, most orgs do have a particular "Theme" but it is so much more. Everywhere you go it is a case of settling in and making new friends. During my time at the Band of the Red Hand org, I have literally doubled the amount of people I can truly call a friend....

I now have two friends, me and myself  ;D

Just kidding... I hate me, and myself is just an arse!

For me the best thing to do is circulate in the open boards of the Orgs and see where you want to go from there. But most importantly, whatever you decide, have fun *cough*The Band*Cough*

I'm not too far from you, I live in Wellingborough which is near Northampton.

Hard luck. ;) I was born in Northampton and spent my first 19 years in the alleged Rose of the Shires. Nothing but fields and dual carriageways. Drove me insane.

That explains so much, Sira.  Not about you specifically, but about someone else I know who is -still- in Northampton. ;)

Normaly I would of said Hello already, but school and all that fun stuff.

Anyway. Welcome to DM, as people have said, go look at the Orgs and see which one you like to lurk around, though if you dont like those there is always the general discusion forums were really anything and everything is talked about. That brings me to the one thing I people havnt said yet (And I could swear Rayen would of said it already) The RP Divisons, but only listen to me if you like to RP otherwise ignore this part. They are at the bottom of the forums and are activly telling the tales of all our wonderful (And crazy) made up charicters in the WoT world. I would tell you about all of them but the only one I am currently in is the Wolfkin (And not really long in that one) but the names sorta give the divisions away (Children of Light..they must be the good guys right??)

Anyway, long sugestion to go look at the divs aside, Welcome and have fun storming the Mount.

Ok, guys, we get it, you're british. You don't need to use words like "carriageways" to get the point across.  I'm beginning to think the American Revolution was really fought for the right to call trucks 'trucks' rather than 'lorries', and all that Boston tea party stuff was just because they realized 'no taxation without representation' would sound better for the history books
