and i was wondering if anyone else had moments in the books where songs they know jumped out at them

Well, the Foo Fighters did a song called The Pretender, and the lyrics scream of Wheel of Time, so much so that I wonder if Dave Groll or whoever wrote it has read WoT. here are some of the lyrics:

Keep you in the dark

You know they all pretend

Keep you in the dark

And so it all began

Send in your skeletons

Sing as their bones come marching in... again

They need you buried deep

The secrets that you keep are at the ready

Are you ready?

I'm finished making sense

Done pleading ignorance

That whole... defense

Spinning infinity, boy

The wheel is spinning me

It's never-ending, never-ending

Same old story

What if I say I'm not like the others?

What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays

You're the pretender

What if I say I will never surrender?

What if I say I'm not like the others?

What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays

You're the pretender

What if I say that I'll never surrender?

In time or so I'm told

I'm just another soul for sale... oh, well

The page is out of print

We are not permanent

We're temporary, temporary

Same old story

What if I say I'm not like the others?

What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays

You're the pretender

What if I say that I'll never surrender?

What if I say I'm not like the others?

What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays

You're the pretender

What if I say I will never surrender?

I'm the voice inside your head

You refuse to hear

I'm the face that you have to face

Mirrored in your stare

I'm what's left, I'm what's right

I'm the enemy

I'm the hand that will take you down

Bring you to your knees

So who are you?

Yeah, who are you?

Yeah, who are you?

Yeah, who are you?

Keep you in the dark

You know they all pretend

What if I say I'm not like the others?

What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays

You're the pretender

What if I say that I'll never surrender?

As you can see, there are loads of references. Stuff like Moiraines half-truths at the beginning, Rand hearing Lews Therins voice, losing his hand, the link between him and Moridin, Rand not being a False Dragon and refusing to be used, the reincarnated Chosen, all are in there. I love it.

EDIT: Oh my God theres even a reference to the Wheel itself! This would be Rands song I reckon.

ha wow I had heard that song before, but I had never really listened to the lyrics. One of the guys in that band must love these books

The Horn of Valere sounds, the dead Heroes race down the mountains of fog, and in my head I hear a segment from the most dramatic Requiem ever composed (Verdi's, not Mozart's)...

[just listen through 1:45]

The words are in Latin; the English translation reads,

The trumpet will send its wondrous sound

throughout earth's sepulchres

and gather all before the throne.

[translation from http://www.stmatthews.com/choir/mozartsrequiem.htm]

I think of some of the 'darker' songs that Led Zeppelin did, like 'No Quarter', 'In my Time of Dying' and some of the fantasy songs would work also. Plus the music is very military like 'Kashmir' and 'Achilles' Last Stand' and 'The Battle of Evermore'.

yea zeppelin works well probably because jimmy page is really into like fantasy and stuff so a lot of their stuff works in general for the genre
