While Lillian liked books, there were some days she truly tired of them. While today wasn't quite such a day, it came fairly close. Squatting down slowly as she worked her way to the lower shelves, she sighed as reached the bottom with no luck and stepped across to the next bookcase. Sure enough, up the top where she could onyl reach if she got on her tippy toes, the book she was after. Reaching up high, Lillian frowned as she concentrated, just catching the book and slowly pulling it free.

Adding it to the small pile she already had, she collected those books and began walking back to where she'd left her thngs. She'd found a nice place in the library where people rarely came by, anyone who was unfriendly that was. There was a large table she had come across, large enough to accomodate perhaps ten people. The people who went there wanted to meet novices and accepted generally, and they often helped out she'd found. Indeed, she helped people herself on a few occasions where she could.

Finding the table once more, Lillian placed the books next to her things. She would need to start on the Trolloc Wars soon. She was thinking of focusing on the Battle of Gunval in particular, but it was a matter of finding enough information aboutit. In particular, the M`aeshadar that had led the forces of the Shadow. The Scourge of the Light, he was a difficult piece of research. Not so much because of a lack of information, but because it all conflicted. Wincing as she opened up the first book, she threw herself into it even as she hoped somebody would come by and distract her.

OOC: Those of you I talked about meeting up with, we're presuming that you're up to lesson three of your WT&tW, about Ajahs, in the RP. Jump on in :D

  • 3 weeks later...

Taei had been searching for hours, for what she wasn't exactly sure. Which ajah to write about? Each one has it's purpose, and it's reason for being. Collecting a stack of books on the different ajahs and the tower in general she quickly had too many. Seeing an almost empty table Taei decided that it was as good a spot as any.

Heaving the stack onto the table she sat them down as quitely as possible, which still made the table shift a little bit because of weight. Seeing the novice at the other end of the table look up from her book Taei suddenly wished she hadn't decided it was a good spot after all. "I'm sorry." Looking back at the books on the table to avoid the other novice's eyes she said, "I didn't mean to disturb anyone, am just trying to do some research."

OOC: Should have kicked me...

Looking up as the table was bumped, Lillian was somewhat surprised, she didn't know the woman's name. Pale blond hair that went well past her waist, made even more striking by the fact that the woman must have been near on half a foot taller than herself. She knew the face, but so help her, Lillian could not remember the novice's name, or whether she'd ever known it to begin with. Either way, Lillian had found a way out of work at least for a bit, if the girl was interested in talking anyway.

Frowning at the apology she received, Lillian laughed as the novice explained why. Shaking her head, Lillian laid aside her books as she spoke with an easy friendliness. "You aren't disturbing me at all, to be honest I was hoping someone would come by and give me an excuse to take a break. The Trolloc Wars are interesting, but the detail this paper requires is tedious at best, painful if I'm honest with myself."

"I can't say I remember having seen you before though, my name is Lillian." Leaning across the table, Lillian held her hand out for the novice to take if she chose to.

Taei

As the other woman chuckled at her appology Taei was taken aback for a moment. As she explained her need for destraction Taei understood all too well. "I can't say I remember having seen you before though, my name is Lillian."

Taking the hand that was offered and shaking it she smiled slightly, "I'm Taei, can't say that I remember seeing you before either. I have an awful time remembering names, but faces I usually remember."

Releasing Taei's hand, Lillian smiled "so, how long have you been at the White Tower now? This is my tenth year, hopefully the last if I'm lucky." Grinning as she recognised a couple of the books Taei had, she continued "Ajahs? What class is that for?"

Taei

"I'm still rather new here. I've only been here for a couple months." I wish that I was almost Accepted and done with these endless chores.

Taei frowned down at the books, her expression almost pained with indecision. "The White Tower and the World. I'm supposed to pick one to write about. I just am having trouble trying to pick just one, they're all needed in their own ways and every one of them is facinating."

"You have Saya Sedai for a teacher no doubt?" Laughing when Taei nodded, Lillian settled back in her chair. "She was my teacher ten years ago as well, I found her intimidating when I first came to the Tower, still is for that matter but I suspect she's nice enough when you get to know her, if you get the chance that is. But the class, you know while it is awhile since I've done it, I could give you a hand with it if you want, if you've got any questions about the Ajahs, where to start with it or such."

Taei

"Any help would be appreciated. Thank you." Taei gave Lillian a smile then looked back down at her books and it was once again replaced by a frown. "I just am not sure which one to choose, they're all facinating to me, and I want to learn more about all of them." Biting her lip out of frustration she turned to the other woman and asked, "How did you choose?"

"I considered flipping a coin." Smiling slightly, Lillian eased back in her chair as she thought back. "For me, I simply picked the one I knew the least about so I could learn more about it. The Ajahs are very distinct from one another, I had no particular Ajah in mind then to join one day, nor do I now for that matter. Each of them have their merits, and I think I could do any of them, but the choice is a difficult thing to consider, for me at least. Others have found it much easier."

Thinking for a moment Taei reflected on what she knew. Each of the Ajahs had their cause. The one I know about the least... hum... I guess that would probably be the Browns. I know that they run the libray, but other than that.... "I guess that would have to be the Brown Ajah. As weird as that may sound."

"Ah, the Brown Ajah. Yes, they run the library, they are charged with maintaining the knowledge of the White Tower. In addition to this they are also charged with added to the knowledge that the White Tower possesses. To that end many are archivers, researchers, historians, and most of their eyes and ears are reputed to be bent towards that end as well. One Brown sister I know is devoted entirely to researching new ways of doing things, another sister when she was aspiring tried to make a device to wash clothes without a person." Smiling at the memory, Lillian continued "that somewhat ended in disaster, but that is the sort of thing the Brown's will do, they are willing to try new things to see if they will work."

Washing clothes without a person doing it... Caught up in that mental image for a moment she tried her best not to chuckle. Purposefully drawing her mind away from it she considered what she'd been told. "Well, research is something that I guess I've done my whole life anyways." Pondering it again Taei was silent for several moments. Weighing the pros and cons. Making sure that she would have enough to make a report. Finally convincing herself she nodded briskly. "Yes. I do believe that would do."

Research? How did she mean all her life? "You were educated before you came to Tar Valon then?"

"Well, not official research. I mean I never 'studied' a profession or what not." Pausing to collect her thoughts so that she could explain it right she continued. "I have always been interested in books and learning about other places, times, people, etc. I was told that it was an obsession, but it was what I enjoyed. My father being a scribe I was given access, however fleeting, to books on all kinds of subjects and well, I found a lot of them facinating. I guess that the One Power is my new facination so to speak." She hoped that this better explained her 'research'.

"Ah." Smiling again, Lillian was slightly relieved. A scribe's daughter, not a noble, she found that of all the people in the Tower, those with noble blood on average proved to be more difficult to deal with. Not that such things were meant to matter in the Tower, and they didn't, but those people tended to be more difficult to deal with nevertheless. Then again, that was a rather silly prejudice, each person was individual. Thinking of people as part of a group was when they were misjudged. "Who was your father a scribe for? A lord or?"

"It was a lord of a minor house. We did a lot of work for local people as well. He didn't spend much time with the lord's family and was able to have a lot of freedom in his work." The though of home caught the words in her throat for a minute. None of that, now. You can't have second thoughts now. You've committed yourself already. Mentally shaking herself she brought her attention back to the present and hoped that she hadn't spaced out for too long.

Taking in what Taei said, Lillian recognised the distant look on her face, it was the same distant look every novice had known one time or another. Waiting until Taei awoke from her reverie, Lillian spoke on as if nothing had happened. "It sounds like you had a similar freedom, do you miss it? I find I do from time to time, it would be nice to simply walk away from this for at least awhile."
