Yet another newbie.

Hello everyone,

I am very new to WoT, but not at all new to the fantasy genre. I am currently on the first book in this magnificent series, and I am already hooked. I'm on school holidays at the moment, and am worried about how I will put the book down and recommence my studies in a week's time! Yikes! Anyway, aside from my newfound infatuation with Robert Jordan's work, I am a huge LOTR fan, as well as A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. So, Hello!

Amber. x

Great to see a new member.

Indeed, WoT can be hard to put down, especially the early books.  I don't know what to say to help you out there.  (I'd go with Jordan ;))

Welcome, to Dragonmount.  Have fun! :)

Gosh, I would absolutely love to abandon all my scholarly pursuits in favour of a pursuit of the literary-fantasy kind, however alas I am committed, too committed to getting an enormous score at the end of this horrid, horrid year that is year 12. Luckily next year, at university, there'll be plenty of time for reading, partying, reading, sport, reading, socialising, and did I mention reading?

Yes, there will be plenty of time for reading then.

But there is always the saying "There is no time like the present"

Anyway, welcome to DM, if you have any questions about the site, feel free to drop me a PM and I will try and answer it ASAP.

Okay, 2 major things:

1.  WELCOME TO DRAGONMOUNT!!!!!!!!!!

2. Oh. My. Gosh.  I see your sig, and I just about pass out.  I LOVE that poem, probably one of my top favorites, and it's what got me into Dylan Thomas.  Just thought I'd share that. :D

Anyway, a student teacher put the WoT series this way:  "It's really good, but it will suck years of your life away."

It only took me a couple of months to read them all the way through the first time, but I understood what she meant.  I stayed up late night after night, ignoring any schoolwork that wasn't easy so I could read, losing sleep, and devouring the books.

And, though I haven't been a member here as long as others, I have spent almost 15 days of my life on Dragonmount.  15 days of straight DM.  That many hours.  It sucks life away, but in a good way.

So, I guess the point in that random spiel?  It'll be hard sometimes to fit it in, but reading WoT is definitely worth it. ;D ;D

Yeah, Dylan Thomas is absolutely great. I actually had an essay last term on this Australian film called Look Both Ways for English, and I managed to squeeze in a Dylan Thomas reference, and the teacher liked it: I got full marks.

Yeah, balancing homework and WoT is becoming a challenge, especially since I have a few other books to read as well. Daughter of the Blood has been sitting on my shelf for too long, waiting to be read. I makes me wish I had a stopwatch that would stop time. Only then would I have enough time to read everything I want to read...

Alas, tis not to be.

*laughs* Yeah, I know what you mean....

That reminds me of the movie Clockstoppers.  Have you ever seen it?

I can't remember if it was actually any good or not.... ::)

Time to interrupt what is going on above, but welcome to DM! :)

Thanks mate! Well I only started reading WoT a week ago, and I've already finished EotW and tDR - is that fast reading or what? Of course, when school restarts it'll be more like 'a chapter here, a chapter on the bus, a chapter there.' We addicts must do what we must to keep up with it! lol.

I ADORE Nynaeve - she is an EXCELLENT character. Anyone want to discuss her?

xx Amber

Hey! Welcome to DM! I think Nynaeve is a very dynamic and, as you will discover later on in the series, very powerful character. She has a strong spirit and a fierce temper. And yet as "hard" a person as she at first appears to be, she is as cute and cuddly as a teddy bear. Well, a rock's version of a teddy-bear, anyways. heh.
