Faerzyne rubbed her hand wearily over her eyes. The hour was late, and her candle had burned low in it's holder, casting a dancing orange glow across the completed pile of reports on her desk. She was a meticulous worker, and efficient, yet the day had proved somewhat busier and more unpredictable than usual, meaning the work she had set for the day had not been completed in the time frame she would have preferred.

Standing, the gray stifled a yawn as she stretched her back, straightening out the kinks in her spine before preparing to leave her office for the evening. A meal and a hot bath, she decided, would be in order before she retired, else she would not be as fresh in the morning as required.

Just as she prepared to douse the candle on her desk with a simple weave of air, a familiar tingle ran down her spine, a sure sign one of her wards had been triggered. A moment later a tentative knock sounded. Faerzyne sighed wearily. Who could possibly be bothering her at this hour? The knock sounded again, and Faerzyne walked to the door, opening it herself, somewhat irritated. Surprisingly, a startled looking novice stood on the step, obviously not expecting her to be there. Waving her in with a tinkle of bells, Faerzyne closed the door with a resounding click before turning back to the novice.

"It is well past curfew child, you had better have a good explanation as to why you are at my office at this hour." Hands on hips, Faerzyne's eyes glittered with irritation as she waited for a response.

Tiegan had stood there outside the foor for a long time, somewhat terrified. Somewhat? That was an understatement, she was suddenly petrified.

Now she understood why they were banned from seeing those trainees. Tiegan had never really been interested in the other gender before, but if this was what happened frequently to a novice when seeing a trainee...

She felt so ashamed and stupid!

"I'msorryfordisturbingyou... I...uh. I was sent here." Tiegan spluttered out the entire story, save for a few modifcations about the other girls, staring at anything but the eyes of the Mistress of Novices.

An icy glare and tapping foot were all Faerzyne needed to create the perfect model of disapproval. It was almost a pity the girl dared not look up at her, else her guilt and shame would have multiplied a hundredfold. By the way Tiegan was constantly stuttering and stumbling over her words, this was clearly only a version of the truth. Even if it took all night, Faerzyne would get to the bottom of this, after all, it was her job.

"Come, sit down." Her tone was flat and hinted faintly at their visit being none too short. With her back turned to the Novice, she sighed. She had hoped to have left this office by now. Her irritation must have come across her face, as the girl seemed to be more frightened than even before.

"I take it you know the rules concerning curfew." It took only a flush of guilt on the girl's part to cue Faerzyne to continue her speech. "Yet despite this, you do not take the direct route back to your room and instead wander around, fraternizing with Trainees! It would take an idiot to have forgotten or somehow have missed the rule forbidding Novices to interact with Trainees. Tell me, Tiegan, did you know what you were doing was against the rules?" The alternative remained unspoken, it did not need to be put to words.
