How many people watched Epitath?  I still haven't seen it.  I wonder if it is on the nets somewhere...

OK, I found a torrent of Epitaph. I'm not advocating one way or another on the morals or ethics of downloading torrents (which may or may not be illegal, depending on the country you are from), but if you are die-hard crazy about viewing the episode, here is the link of the torrent you can download. The .avi file can be viewed on any media player. http://www.mininova.org/tor/2913987

I certainly did not pirate Epitaph One, and therefore I am unable to say that it is (1) totally confusing, (2) amazing if you stick with it, and (3) a showcase for how incredibly dark this show can/will be. :D

I know so very little about stealing online stuff that I don't know how to use a torrent... I mean if I wanted to steal it...

At your request, I would not be able to provide you with a simple link to follow. No bittorrent needed, no special programs, nothing.

I haven't seen it either, but I've got the DVD, I just accidentlly left it in Texas (I just moved to L.A.). But my mom is sending it to me, so I should be able to see it soon. My brother said it was awesome.

I want to see it! I"m very excited about the new season as well :D I thought they were going to cancel it for sure and was so happy when it was renewed!

Um, so Epitaph One was amazing. Makes me even more exicted about the show this season...

Gah!  I can't believe the new season is almost here and I still haven't seen Epitaph one!

I'm making an appointment to see that episode at some point before Friday airtime.  I wonder if I can find the DVD on super sale like I always find Weeds just before the new season starts...

If not, there are other ways of lesser quality, which won't deter me from buying the DVD when I have the cash because it's Friggin' Joss!

Ok I have a review of tonights show full of spoilers... so I will put it in the end.  What you NEED to read is the promo letter that was sent to the screeners from Whedon.  FUNNY.  I will put that first, with a space with the guys review for those that do not want to be spoiled.

The Letter:

September 1, 2009

Dear Press Member:

You hold in your delicate paws a rough cut of “Vows,” the first episode of the second season of DOLLHOUSE, premiering Friday, Sept. 25 on FOX. More importantly, you also hold a free t-shirt! So that’s a thumbs-up right there, no? I mean, do you even have to watch the show? It’s clearly t-shirt-tastic! Did “Grey’s Anatomy” send you a shirt? They did? (Did they send any extra? I’d kill.)

Meanwhile, DOLLHOUSE. Like a man with the bright-eyed euphoria of narrowly escaped death, DOLLHOUSE is coming back from a hilariously unexpected non-cancellation with a verve, a joy and a visceral excitement that borders on manic. We’re psyched. This is the show we want to make. The twisty lives of the Dollhouse peeps are truckin’ along, and ECHO (Eliza Dushku) is going through one of her fresher Hells.

Some things have changed. We’re shooting in HD with a new crew, for a look that’s more lush and exciting – and faster, so we can achieve more visually and give more time to the actors. (and OMG, Olivia’s hair! Very key.) Some things have not.

To refresh, Echo has been rescued from ALPHA (who is still at large) after having all her former personas dumped into her brain all at once. PAUL BALLARD (Tahmoh Penikett) has agreed to work with the Dollhouse in exchange for NOVEMBER’s (Miracle Laurie) freedom. DR. SAUNDERS (Amy Acker) has discovered she is actually an Active, designate “Whiskey,” who was designed by TOPHER (Fran Kranz) to replace the doctor Alpha murdered. And ADELLE (Olivia Williams) has gotten a fabulous haircut.

We hope you enjoy our happy little tale. If you don’t: t-shirt… so soft… so sleepy…

Yours, etc.

-joss

The guys review (with spoilers):

I remember barely bothering to tune into Joss Whedon’s “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” during its first season on The WB. By the third episode of its second season it became my favorite show.

Whedon’s “Dollhouse” isn’t my favorite show, but tonight’s installment makes me judge it (for the moment) the season’s most improved.

Titled “Vow,” the second season premiere of “Dollhouse” is funny, suspenseful, sexy and willing to kick around more than a few Very Big Ideas. Combined with the series’ terrific “lost” episode (“Epitaph One”), “Vow” roughly triples my investment in this series’ fate.

Hints of what awaits:

* Three months have elapsed between 1.12 and 2.1. Not as much time as between 1.12 and “Epitaph One.” But still.

* This season’s Big Bad may or may not be one Sen. David Perrin (Alexis Denisof, who played Wesley Wyndham-Pryce on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel”). Perrin also may or may not be the season’s Big Good. 2.1 fails to specify Sen. Perrin’s party affiliation. We don’t see much of him this week, which tells me he’ll be around for a while.

* Claire Saunders' existential crisis (turns out she’s FAKE!) means a BIG Amy Acker episode tonight before she wanders off to her role on ABC’s midseason ensemble drama “Happy Town.” (My understanding is Acker will recur twice more on “Dollhouse” this season even as she stars on the other series.)

* 2.1's teaser and first act likely contain the series’ funniest 12 minutes to date.

* Sierra is a fleeting highlight, looking for a few moments like she just wandered off the “Mad Men” set.

* There’s a lot more to Adelle and Paul’s first-season-ending “arrangement” than a lot of viewers may suspect.

* Tahmoh Penikett’s “Battlestar Galactica” co-star Jamie Bamber (who’s only half-American) uses his Brit accent. The two former CAGs share a big scene near episode’s end.

* “Epitaph One” vet Felicia Day does not turn up in 2.1, but Whedon says he hopes to bring her back later in the season. Day shot a sequence set in 2019 (or thereabout) that was to open season two, but it was scrapped; Whedon felt the footage may have overcomplicated an already complex episode.

Epitaph One was seriously amazing. I like how Whedon likes to reuse people from his other series. I'm so incredibly excited for the premiere. I don't care if it's dog crap on a stick, it's Whedon and I'll be watching. :D

I finally saw Epitaph One tonight just before the new season started.  I loved it.  It started a little slow, but I'm glad they made that one.  It definitely cements the direction they are going with the story.

So that letter Joss sent, it said Adelle DeWitt had fabulous new hair.  I sure hope there's a real purpose for this new hair, like maybe her downfall, because it isn't fabulous at all.  Her old hair was fabulous.  Classy, with an air of a woman in charge.  The new hair is soccar mom hair.  It does nothing for her authority.  Thank God they let her keep the clothes though.  Her wardrobe is FABULOUS!!!!

It still freaks me out to hear Jamie Bamber speak in his English accent.  And I find it funny that Alexis Denisof, whom I'm also not used to hearing his American voice was also sporting that this episode.

So the things I like the most and hate the most about Dollhouse still stand.  Whiskey/Dr. Saunders is still my favorite character and has the best story.  Paul Ballard still makes me sick as well as I don't like Tahmoh's portrayal of him.

Overall, I didn't think this was a very stellar season opener.  It served as a decent narrative as to how Ballard is lured into being Echo's handler, but the story as a whole wasn't so hot.  This remains one of those shows where if I wasn't such a devotee of Joss's with faith in where this is going, because I've seen glimmers of it, I'd probably tune out.

A 1.0 rating is not going to do it.  I fear this show may get the ax real soon.

I didn't love it but as a Joss fan I know he likes to build up to something awesome.  I agree with Mendorah, Whiskey is the best character... well after Alpha.  Next week's episode looks to be the boring filler type.

Watched Epitaph One.  I thought it was the most powerful episode of the season.  I highly enjoyed watching Felicia Day and I loved how they set up the future.  Such a powerful Metaphor for today's addiction to technology and desire for a life other than ours.  I thought it was crazy when Topher realized how he had created the tech that destroyed humanity.  I thought it was a nice touch that he went insane...such good writing.  5/5

I'm upset that this newest episode has been getting such bad ratings.  I hope Joss manages to pull it out because based on Epitaph One, I can't wait to see where the show goes and what part Caroline plays in Safe Haven.

Too bad Amy Acker isn't doing more than two more episodes in the series, according to something I read somewhere. heh.

You know, it was a bit awkward, but if you look at all of Joss's season openers from his shows--they are all kind of weird. I think that the dynamic between Whiskey and Topher was great. I think that whatsherface being that super prim english girl was AWESOME--especially since she had an issue with Asians...and Paul Ballard didn't really bug me. I think that the scenes in the Dollhouse were great, but the story with Echo and her assignment were yawn-worthy--though it was nice to see Eliza beating the crap out of guys again. :)

Sierra as a racist English aristocrat with bizarre kinks was hilarious. "If you tied me up and spanked me, I could hardly be expected to resist." Ahahaha.

Wait--when was Sierra an english aristocrat? What was that storyline--was something missing in the version I watched?

I refer you to FDM:

There was a short scene showing Sierra in character as an Englishwoman with a very upper-class accent. She refused to let Topher's assistant deprogram her because she had an issue with "Orientals". But "if you tied me up and spanked me, I could hardly be expected to resist."

Go back and rewatch. It was awesome. :D

I didn't absolutely love the pilot.  That said, I liked it.  It felt like an episode from the middle of last season.  Just another episode.

Krak - This was not a pilot.  The pilot is the first episode of the series, not season.  The pilot is what show makers show execs to get them to pick up a show.
